DoH at best and DoL at worst anything to be safe in town and watching all you adventurers die, daily and get repeatedly resurrected till there's nothing left of your souls.

Me, I'd be a warrior. I would be a Red Mage. The class in game bores me to tears, but in a real life situation I think it would be the best choice. You don't always have a party, and I don't want to die.

For me, the ideal of fast light swords with a magical flair attracts me. The idea of not always being at the forefront, but always having something to contribute. I like the idea that I can manipulate my opponents in various ways and gain my advantage by maintaining my composure in all things.
Beyond that, maybe a Dragoon? I like high mobility and those guys rule the skies. Who wouldn't want to be able to just leap large distances easily?

Or a pet mini-dragon to breathe elemental fire on your opponents.
Yes I realize a wyvern isn't a universal dragoon trait.
I think I may be able to tolerate a wyvern.
I'm sure the ladies will find the pet dragon to be absolutely adorable. Provided he doesn't do anything dumb like set their armor/robes/attire on fire.
Here's a spin on the question: What would you be looking for in a traveling companion? A friend, a romance interest? A combat aid or just an adorable pet Chocobo?

If Final Fantasy were real and I was inside a Final Fantasy, I would probably like to be a Beastmaster (the FF11 sort).
In an actual Final Fantasy game, I wouldn't want to play as a Beastmaster so much though.

Summoner all the way! Able to call upon Aeons/Primals/Guardian Forces/Espers/Eidolons/Summons to fight by my side and bash in all the faces of my enemies. And have a cute little neon squirrel running around at my heels would be wicked.
