If there will be an RP server. Im 100% sure the answers is no but Id still like a concrete/definite answer on the subject instead of speculation. I mean Im sure all teh other "cool kid" mmos that FFXIV wants to emulate have RP servers right? (i know for a fact that WoW does)

I don't know if you remember but Besaid used to be the 'unofficial' RP server in 1.0. - I think they migrated to Balmung with the rest of us.

Well since they released the names of the servers and also for what region they are they should have said if there would be rp servers as well. So since they didn't i am afraid that there probably won't be any. It strikes me weird though because even though i don't like rp much there are a lot of guys they do. SE should have been considerate and do at least 1 official rp server.

There was this quote on the forums:

Quote:
Greetings,

Apologies for the delay, I know you've all been waiting on a response to this topic.

There aren't any plans to designate a roleplay server for the upcoming World Merge. However, Yoshida did tell us "I also like roleplaying, so with the launch of version 2.0 we'll prepare a roleplay server."

Recently there was a quote that they hadn't decided anything yet. They might 'prepare' one by asking the community for another unofficial server like last time.

The latest word from the CR's are that the devs are looking at it, so it's on their radar.

The RP servers, I've found, always have the nicest community, even if you don't RP.

Yeah there was always a lot of folks on Balmung who were RPing. I'd be sitting in the Adventurer's Guild in Ul'Dah, doing some quest for Momidi, and there would be a cluster of people sitting at the tables, talking in /say about their plans for the evening.

Would suck for any new folks if they keep it Balmung.

I don't know the costs / benefits to SE, but what in general would be the negatives from their perspective to adding a RP server? Do they just not get the types of populations in these servers required to make it cost effective?

Edit: I was on Balmung and I never knew it was RP!

That's the reason I tend to play on RP servers. I'd be much happier with a "mature" server though. A server where people named DarkKiller XXSuperSephirothXX automatically get a free transfer to another server, if you see what I mean.

Speaking of... did anyone ever listen to the Remotely Plausible podcast? It wasn't the best podcast (ran a bit long with hardly a format or anything) but I always found it entertaining.

Further Info: It was a GamerEscape podcast that talked about their role playing adventures.

I thought RP was mandatory/enforced on an RP server? otherwise why have one if youre not gonna RP? Just join the other 10000 servers that arent RP then lol. (i know one game that actually forced RP youd get banned suspended just for talking about IRL or making an implications/suggesting that you were actually playing a game... like if you told people you were gonna "logout" You had to actually act as if the world you lived in was real and you were a character living in hat world knowing nothing of the existence of other worlds (i.e the REAL world lol) so how do you explain logging out you might ask? Easy just tell everyone youre going to "sleep" lol

They were never enforced in WoW, that I know of. They are more suggestions for RP servers to play with others. Maybe I was breaking rules and being uber taboo, but their characters were too nice to say so. Smiley: lol

Because it's fun to see other people RPing, and the aforementioned niceness of the community.

There are two sides of that scale~ As mentioned earlier, there are usually a lot of nice friendly people, but sometimes those people really get into it and take it a step too far by getting upset if you break out of character. That being said, I will be a little sad it the 'unofficial' RP server will be on a legacy server as I'll be on one of the new servers(most likely becoming that crazy person that thinks that everything in the server is real. Shh..).Smiley: lol

I've played on RP servers before, and like others, I agree that as a non-RP'er, the communities are something like 30% nicer.

But as far as an official designation, I think the folks who want to RP will find each other, even if SE doesn't add a [RP] stamp. It makes the RP experience easier, but it's not totally necessary either.

then i guess no one wanted to rp in ffxi because i dont remember too much serious rp going on on any server in that game, sure maybe 10-15 ppl tried to start an rp linkshell but other than that nothing as big as what im sure the wow rp or unofficial ffxv rp servers were like.

so I think having that designation helps

As far as i know if a server was flagged as RP you needed to follow their rules if you were breaking that you would get reported and Blizzard would have issued a notice to you with the second or third notice i believe you would had a more harsher punishment.

There was a role play linkshell on Seraph in XI. I remember quite clearly the "pregnant mithra" in a dunes party who insisted she couldn't pull because of the "baby."

Yeah.

Besaid was the original unofficial RP server, and later it became Balmung after the merge. The server was selected by the RPC (Role-Play Coalition) based on popular vote. Most of the 1.0 RPers (so far) intend to stay with Balmung, and the majority of newcomer RPers are leaning that way as well. That said, there is also a group of RPers who wish to start on a fresh "non-legacy" RP server. The RPC will possibly hold a vote for this and support their endeavors, though will likely remain largely stationed on Balmung.

This is of course pending information from SE. We do not know what their plans for an official RP server are yet, but they stated they're looking into and we expect to probably hear more within the next couple weeks or so.

Yeah, that podcast originally formed under the RPC and then branched out to Eorzeapedia/Gamer Escape. It's no longer around, though I know there are some RPers out there who still do podcasts. The focus is much more on random chatter and game stuff moreso than RP I think though. I'll have to find out more about that.

Smiley: lol And this is why there needs to be a RP specific server.

This is actually quite radical for even heavy RPers like me Smiley: lol. Most of us keep our RP between fellow RPers. When we get into party/dungeon situations with non-Rpers, we generally stay OOC (out of character). But yes, there is a minority that take it to extremes like that >.>

Yeah, I'd probably roll on an RP server if they had one. Most people are nice and the drama that does happen is ******* hilarious.

Just watch out for the RPPVP servers, they tend to have the worst communities. I was on one in WoW and it was pretty awful. Most of the RP was centered around Silvermoon and nude male Blood Elves "RPing" with males pretending to be nude female Blood Elves.

Final Fantasy is a bit different though, and I think that regardless of what server you're on there will probably be a decent RP community.

Right. I'm perfectly cool with playing with RPers. Even if you want to RP while we're fighting that's fine, but situations like THAT are just ridiculous.
