Preparing to join phase 3 beta.Follow

#1 Jun 09 2013 at 6:31 PM Rating: Decent
So, I have a hopefully simple set of questions.

I got the collectors edition for FFXIV when it came out 2 years ago, primarily because I really liked FFXI (played it for 6 years) and wanted something special for FFXIV. So, I installed the game, tried to play it for about a month, then gave up (I will let you guess the reasons). Now that FFXIV is restarting with a better design, I hope to get back into it and recapture some of the MMO fun I miss from FFXI.

That said, I believe that as a former player who owns the collector's edition, I can play in the phase 3 beta which is starting this Friday. So as such:
1. Is that the case, can I play in phase 3 beta?
2. How do I go about doing that? Do I have to download the game, and where do I do that? I already registered my game code with my account on the SE site, but that didn't seem to do much.
3. Is phase 3 this Friday? And if so, do you know what time it opens? I read on a forum post that it will be open on weekends only, but I don't know if that is Japanese time, or what.

I'm not 100% sure, but I think you still need to register for the beta.

https://secure.square-enix.com/enqt/e/FF14RBETAENTRYN/html?

They'll cross check your Square Enix ID (that you used to play 1.0) and then they should send you further details in email if you qualify. That includes instructions on where to download the client and such.

No matter what you'll have to register for beta even though your selection is guaranteed

I did that 2 months ago for phase 2. Do I have to do it again?

In that case, you should be good. I'd expect an email soon. Smiley: nod

Ahh, so they haven't sent out the phase 3 invites to people yet? I thought they would have done that by now seeing how there is only a week left.

Yeah they're gonna be cutting it close with all the client downloads and ps3 configs required.

Yeah someone else mentioned that all the previous alpha and beta invites went out the Tuesday before the beta started so hopefully that trend remains the same. If I don't get into the PS3 beta I'm going to just be inconsolable lol

Nice to hear they dot I's and cross T's a few days before hand. If I started downloading the beta client on Friday, I might have it in time for retail release :)

"We wanted to stress test the client download servers"--Square's fallback resonse if they end up releasing them friday night.

That could very likely be a cause. Stress test is a very good reason for that. Better have that stress test now than in release day...

I haven't had nearly as much trouble with the beta client updates as I did with FFXI or 1.0.

Hopefully that holds true.

Didn't they move to a P2P system half way through 1.0? I remember the early client updates were a nightmare. I used to have to download them from a torrent, then copy them in directly.

I didn't read the entire thread, but ALL previous registered players get access to Phase 3.

If you registered your game on your SE account, you're in.

I played a for a few months after the release in 2010 so I'm guessing it was registered to the SE account we use, but when we log in now it doesn't show that anywhere (that I see)? Are we ok or do we need to do something? We did apply for the beta with the email we used for SE account as well.

Yeah, across the internet I'm seeing people saying that you still had to apply to beta test to get chosen for phase 3. It's not the case. That only applies to the PS3 beta, and only if you didn't apply back in 2010.

For anyone who purchased FFXIV 1.0, you don't have to do anything. You're in from here on out.
