Cool systems in other MMOsFollow

I think at this point, most of us can agree that while SE used a lot of classic formulas and systems from other games, XIV looks like it will have enough to set it apart from the rest. It really does have a personality all it's own and the fun factor to back it up. That being said, there are some things I think SE should consider adopting from other MMOs yet.

Transmogrification is a system in WoW that allows you to transform the look of your gear to the look of another. There are rules though:
1. You must be able to equip it.
2. It cannot be something silly like a fish mh weapon (think moogle wand in FF).
3. It has to be the same armor type, i.e. Leather > Leather.

I was so in love with this system. A lot of the gear I obtained wasn't to my liking aesthetically, so I transmog'd my gear to look like other sets I had collected through out my journey. It was really fun to solo old content or get small groups together to farm old pieces of equipment that looked awesome and put together your own style for your character.

I really liked the RSE and some of the equipment I obtained in beta, but some were hideous. I felt like wearing my old gear when I wasn't fighting because the new stuff was ugly and looked, iirc as someone said before, like I was wearing a pillow. It isn't silly because you can only mog gear that you can actually use in battle. No one would be able to mog their Paladin gear in to a robe for example, or their Monk gear in to a summerfest Kimono.

If you're interested in the system, read: http://www.wowwiki.com/Transmogrification

What do you guys think? Any systems you'd like SE to borrow for XIV? Any new and original ideas you can think of that they should implement?

Being able to dye it is good enough for me. Honestly, the concept of "town gear" has always been one of those silly things people do, in my opinion.

I like how the armor is designed in FFXIV thus far, even if the colours were sometimes... interesting...

... seriously SE, **** off with pink armor.

Hah, Thank you scary looking Marauder for hacking through those monsters threatening our village. Now enjoy these pink gloves that will go great with your Red armour and blue pants.

To me that would take some fun and need away from crafters, the what you see is what you get is better because, like it does for me, it motivates me to level my crafting so i can make the gear i wanna wear and that looks cool. I would rather them keep it the same and just add cooler dyes and more types of armour.

This is exactly it, with transmog you wouldn't have this problem. You accept said gloves, equip them for the stats, then pay a guy a small fee to make them look like your old ones. Viola, you look badass again and you're not gimped.

Imagine if you could have used this system in FFXI to take your ugly *** Houppelande set and make it look like your Warlock set.

Some alternate outfit setup would be nice. While I like the high level armour it does kinda bother me when everyone looks exactly the same wearing the same armour and using the same weapons. Having the ability to add some personal flavour to the way your character looks (within reason) can't be a bad thing.

Except then you have to upgrade your gear to something ugly and have no choice but to use it for stats (think scorpion harness) and your gear you just crafted gets NPC'd.

Crafters could sell armors that look nice to people that just want to use it to transmogrify their current gear to look like it. In WoW people sell low level sets that look awesome for a lot of money because people want the look.

I dont think miss matching gear gimps you in any way, in tihs game any way that would really take away from dyes and crafting,

I don't think you understand what I'm saying. If you wore your old gloves for the look, you would be gimped. If you make your new ones (said purple gloves) look like your old ones, you still have the stats of the new with the look of the old.

*** I added a link to the opening post with a better presentation of the system. I think I'm just doing a bad job of explaining it.

Iv never played WoW, but that way gives me the whole get your cake and eat it too type feel. I dont wanna craft some awesome looking armour that took some time to do, and then see some random person just "imagination'ed" his gear to look like mine, gotta work for some stuff in my opinion.

What do you guys think? Any systems you'd like SE to borrow for XIV? Any new and original ideas you can think of that they should implement?

Active time events for npc backstory(FFIX)
Job specific limit breaks for individual gain(FFVII)
Utility actions removed from the GCD(other mmos)
Differentiation of utilization of the hotkey(sort of like jobs using the hotleys differently, Pug sort of does this-FFVI)
A skill modifier feature(kind of like the charge feature in Champions Online but allowing deep manipulation of skills effects)

Airship combat(FF did it on PsP, they can do it on pc with individual roles of airship maintenance and gunnery)
Magitek Battle Circuit(Think Star Wars Pod Racing but with magical mechanized magitek, teams similar to a nascar team-pilot, mechanics, engineers, team jersey/outfits)
Chocobo Jousting(Is there jousting in any mmos?)
Undersea exploration(Not asking for GW2 underwater combat or for it to be doable anywhere, just a few select areas)
Final Fantasy Tactics ARR(Using in game assets 10 vs 10)

I don't know if you meant just mmos or any game. I don't expect half the things I asked for. But I can dream lol.

You have to own the gear to use the look. You can't just make your gear look like anything. You must own both pieces to do it. So the guy who looks like you also has the same armor.

It's cool, some of those ideas are great!
Jousting is in another MMO, and I thought it was ok, but if it's done right it could be very fun.
The magitek battle, yes please.
Airship battles? Yes, please.
Individual Limit Breaks? They should have already done this!
Most importantly, utility removed from GCD. I should be able to use featherfoot and second wind off the gcd.

I think they mentioned some kind of wardrobe/transmog system was in the works, it probably just won't make it for launch. So... Stay Tuned(tm)

I think one thing I'd like see are broader scale FATEs. Right now, their locations are fairly isolated. If you're too far away from one when it starts, there's a good chance it's over by the time you get to it. Granted, this may be a congestion issue with everyone being lowbies, but in contemplating FATE-equivalent systems from other games, I can't help but consider Rift's zone events as a grander scale in terms of objective. The catch here is, if such things do occur, is to not lock out NPCs/hubs in the event of failure or even the event running in general. Otherwise you might alienate people just trying to do a little something, but not capable or interested in taking on the big event.

Without dabbling in crafting yet, I'm also hoping they have a means to augment a product beyond the NQ/HQ dynamic. For example, let's say you have a sword that gives +5 STR. With an item added at synth, you could make +8 STR, +5 STR and +3 DEX, or +5 STR and +10 DEF as random examples. You could standardize the augments and give them tier requirements, that way twinking isn't an issue off the bat in the PvP sphere. And despite the inevitable cookie cutter that might arise, it would allow some more flexibility in play style.

Given the praise I've seen people give the graphics/environment, some kind of Vista system a la GW2 couldn't hurt, either. For those who don't know, there would be select points at a map you could visit where basically taken to a CS that pans around the environment, allowing views not normally possible without the UI and such in the way. A few examples from when I played.

I guess I'd also like to see a jukebox item where, once you've heard a music track, you can play it wherever.

I hate to say this but I would like some voice acting, I think so many games have started to add it it seemed really odd to not hear anything when the main quests are given. I don't mean fully voiced like SWTOR but the main quests might be nice. Though that does open up the problem of voices not matching expectations.

There is medication for that now you know Smiley: nod I believe some of the movies like the Empire ones had voices but I can't recall a quest cut scene with one, I thought my sound was turned down the first time.

As far as outfits:

I really liked DCUniverse's armor display system. You equip an item, you learn it's "design", and can display whatever you want to, despite what you're actually wearing. It makes it so that you can focus on getting what armor you need without the issue of not having your character look a way that you don't like.

Very similar system without a price. The fee would help balance the economy a bit maybe.

I like that in other MMOs I get a greeting from every NPC, even if it is the same old 4 or 5 possibilities. It was still nice to hear acknowledgement from the guy/gal when i clicked on them. Baladash malanore.

I really like your ideas too Seriha.

I'd love to see mounted combat, lotro style. They basically turned your mount into it's own mini-class, and while mounted you have an entirely different set of abilities. It was awesome, and basically opened an entirely new game in lotro.

I also second pretty much everything sandpark mentioned in his post.

I think this is a major possibility considering the huge part chocobos play in FF. The Magitek I'm sure will be used in this way somehow.

I would also like the NPC to recite a line or a grunt/sfx when spoken to. I don't know if that's really a 'system' from other MMOs, but it makes the world feel more alive which was one of Yoshi-P's goals for ARR.

Good character customization. There's a couple, for height and breasts and maybe something else, but some sliders for jaw/eyes/nose/cheeks/etc. would be good.

To whoever asked if there was jousting in any other MMORPGs, I know that Mabinogi has jousting.

Transmog wasn't used strictly for town gear. You could change the appearance of almost anything, including (and most commonly) your main set of gear you wore into battle.

I know you play FFXI so I'm sure that despite your indifference on gear in town, you could appreciate having the ability to change the look of gear in battle. That is of course, unless you actually like looking like a rodeo clown and the obnoxious and annoying blinking as you disrobe and change clothes on the battlefield.
