What excites you most about ARR?Follow

For me I really started liking crafting in this game as its bit different than the regular "have materials -> hit button -> watch progress bar move on its own -> *poof* theres your item".

Also I'm kinda excited about the end game. The thing is that we don't really know how its going to be like yet. The end game will make it or break it for me, so I'm trying not to get my own hypemeter that high yet as it MIGHT come crashing down when I actually get to play the game fully.

For what I played the game in beta; The game seems really fun. There is at least some difficulty and lots of things to do at least the first 20 lvls I tried the game.

I'm also trying not to put on those rose colored glasses and ignore all the faults the game has. Some problems which really bugged me in betas are for example the AOE areas which hit you even though you were nowhere close to the area (could be an real issue in endgame if not resolved). It's also NOT a solution to say that "you have to move before or right when the circle appears". You are out of the area when the mob's ability resolves and you should be save, no matter what.

Also the combat is a bit dull at the moment, at least on the lower levels. I hope and think that It will get better on lvl 50s or so but I dont want to get my hopes up on things that aren't in the game yet that is the endgame content which will kinda define if the combat is fun or not.

1.0 taught me one thing and that thing is that "It's only beta, will be better in launch" is not how it ALWAYS works. So it taught me to be careful to not overlook faults. That said, ARR is shaping up to be a great game and for sure can't be compared to 1.0 anymore.

Meeting new friends. Cheesy, but true.

This isn't cheesy at all! FF has a wonderful community compared to other games.

Unfortunately my faith in this statement has been shaken as of late.
(Random rant ahead, read at your own risk)
I'm crossing my fingers, but I don't think it's a franchise culture anymore. I think the community has been invaded by the younger generations of today (16-22), and they're far more vile than the kids that came before them 5 or 6 years ago. It's incredible how twisted this world and it's youth has become. When I was growing up, rap was political and had a point. Rock and roll was rebellious and entertaining. Music in general was very diverse and so was the youth as a result. It was cool to have your own opinion and style. These days, everywhere I go I see kids wearing the same exact ****; Flat billed hats, skinny jeans, T-shirts, and Nikes or Converse. They all bump the same music in their cars too. They all talk the same, move the same, and fix up their cars the same (hellaflush). I've never in my life seen the media so successfully brainwash an entire group of youths. It has taught them to be greedy, nonobservant, close minded, inconsiderate, obnoxious slaves to the machine. The worst part is, somehow they all seem to think their "lifestyle" makes them unique. Finding a unique kid these days is like reading a ******* "Where's Waldo?" book. .

It seems the people of my age group (I'm only 29) are currently swallowed up by the "Go Green" scam, which is just as sad. With our current standard of living as they like to call it, there is no feasible way to "Go Green". Unless you're cool with having no electricity, cars, jobs, money, factories, etc. (I'm personally fine with that), our world is doomed. There is no way to live in accordance with this planet and still have all the things we have.

I think the reason I always loved mmos was that it gave me a chance to commune with people who love the idea of going back to a much simpler time. A time where chivalrous deeds were appreciated and there was still some mystery to it all. Most of the players I come across today do not seem interested in the spirit of the mmo, but rather choose to use it as another means to satiate their greed and lust for power in a world where they will most likely never have any. The ZAM community holds a lot of exceptions and exceptional people, that is why I continue to read and post here for the last 8 (?) years. I hope it will always be that place and I hope XIV will be a haven for those who still enjoy helping others and logging on with a positive attitude toward the game and it's community.

TL;DR
I hope the XIV community is as cool as the XI (and WoW vanilla/bc) community was.

Yeah I really hope the FFXIV community will be as cool as XI or old-school WoW was aswell. Also I REALLY hope that the beta forums is not any indication for how the community will be, because if so then we will be screwed. At the moment all I see in the community (on the beta forums) is constant fighting between FFXI(V) players vs everyone else. Some new players try to come in and the "wonderful FF community" thinks that everyone but FFXI(V) players are somehow below them and that everyone who ever played WoW is automatically an idiot. People will have to sort the hate out in both sides and actually start to work as a single community than two "opposing" communities within a community.

Though I don't think the beta forums represent the actual community of FFXIV at all. There are so many people there who wont actually even be playing the game on release anyway. But ZAM for example has really nice and welcoming community :).

Yeah, I've kinda learned to avoid official forums for any MMO I've played, as they all seem to degenerate into troll-bait-flame-fests. Find a good, medium-largish fansite (ideally months pre-launch, if I'm tracking it that far out), and play it by ear.

I can certainly add Community Rep for a medium-large MMO to the list of jobs you couldn't pay me enough to do!

Having a final fantasy MMO to play again. It just plays different. The way the story is told, the slower more strategic group based combat, etc.

I didn't realize how much I missed this stuff from FFXI until this beta phase.

Looking forward to having something to fill the hours with again other than work. I play other games but they all come to an end after a few hours when they're SP. The only thing I do otherwise is spend hours on CS:GO (Ok CS purists... don't take my head off... I didn't play CS competitively, only DoD, so idc about 1.6 or otherwise) or Chivalry (Which I'm not great at but is absolutely hilarious... taking an archer's arm off while he's trying to hit you with an arrow by charging in and dropping him with an overhand axe swing never gets less funny).

I miss playing a game that doesn't have an actual end.

CS:GO is great. It's just not as popular and lively as 1.6 and Source were unfortunately. I really hope Valve makes HL:3. Half Life 1 & 2 were so good, and the multiplayer to follow would most likely be incredible. I'm crossing my fingers because COD is just not my cup of tea.
