I hope this is unlikely but I thought about it and it is possible for them to do it through FXIII(-2) lore. A lot of time travel/dimension hopping going on. More than likely this is how they're (SE) going to validate Lightning's appearance in Eorzea.

I can also see her quest (if she offers one) resulting into something of an exclusive CS leading into Lightning Returns.

That's a good point. There was a lot of dimension traveling stuff but it was pretty convoluted so I'm not sure if she could travel to different universes or just through time. I think it was just time (and I doubt Eorzea and Gran Pulse are in the same place but different times).

Plus, if they were going with that, they should have put her in her feathery goddess costume.

It's been a minute but I do believe the arena and saucer CS sells itself as some sort of crossroad of interdimension travel. If it can happen once it can again. They may force it but the groundwork has been laid to expound upon it.

It would be nice if musketeer class used gunblades instead of actual guns. I know the people that want more ranged physical DPS wouldn't be happy, but it would add an iconic FF weapon in a way consistent with XIV lore.

And I'm all for adding weapon/armor models from other games into the game. Part of the fun in end-game is being a collector, and having a house to show off your stuff would be pretty awesome. For the longest time in WoW, you would always see everyone wearing the same armor sets, and then they introduced transmogrification. It let you equip an appearance without changing the stats of the actual gear you were wearing. It added replayability to old dungeons for collecting, and allowed players the opportunity to be truly unique.

I honestly think that is what RDM will be. There is one of the Garleans that totally looks like a RDM to me. He wields a gunblade. Maybe wishful thinking but crossing fingers.

After seeing models from FFXI and FFXII in the game, I was wondering when they would add in FFXIII ones.

It will probably be just some silly seasonal event thing. I don't think they would actually add Lightning in the storyline.

Yea, I wouldn't mind it as a seasonal event as well.

You really think they would port Lightning (and probably her voice actress) into XIV for a seasonal event? Smiley: dubious

Yes. Yes I would. I'll put my endorsement behind that speculation.

Likely NOT her voice actress, however.

Keep in mind, they designed a Mi'qote outfit for her in Lightning Returns.

Agreed. I'm leaninging on an exclusive CS that promotes Lighting Returns. Ingame promotion isn't a matter of if. When is now.

This could be thought as a kind of a advertisement of Lightning Returns, right?

However I find it kinda cool that there is/will be "cameos" from other FF games aswell in FFXIV, that is as long as they wont be any kind of major story points or anything big like that. For example just some fight against an old boss is cool imo. It doesnt ruin the feeling of FFXIV actually having it's own story not related to other games, but still will be nostalgic to fight something like Cloud of Darkness.

And why they havent implemented something like Sephiroth or Kefka (at least not yet) is I would guess that if that was done wrong it would generate much worse sh*tstorm than for example Cloud of Darkness. Still when it comes to some specific characters of older games, I would probably feel kinda weird fighting Kefka or Sephiroth in an online game.

But anyway this basically confirms that there will be some other FF references in the game in future aswell. Looking forward to see what they'll be like and I'm not really sure if its good or bad thing.

I think the fact that they are pushing Lightning parallels to the other female characters in current video games: Tomb Raider and Remember Me. It is nice to see a shift from male main characters to strong female leads.
Between Terra, Celes and Ashe. you can't really call it a shift when it already happened. Let us not forget other memorable female characters like Agrias and Beatrix.

The major difference is that none of the female characters I've mentioned were shoved down people's throats the way Lightning has been.

I don't think Lightning is replacing Cloud from FFVII (Cloud is one of the most iconic character in FF series)
From what I have heard, the order from the higher ups was to make Lightning heavily based on Cloud. Wada also liked the character.

I'm not to keen on what has been revealed. It'd be one thing if they had thrown in an homage/parody character with a ressemblance to Lightning. Inserting her into the game for cross-promotion purposes just doesn't seem right to me. Items and weapons from other FFs are nice and all, not to mention references like XIV's own version of the Crystal Tower, Gold Saucer and using names like The Enterprise and Tiny Bronco. Porting character from other games into this one just leaves a bad taste in my mouth.

I don't like the idea of Lightning making an appearance. It bugs me that much more that the whole limit break for attackers is a Buster Sword.

I like references, don't get me wrong. But the method they did it in FFIX more appeals to me than the way they're going about it in FFXIV. It's not something I'll quit over, but bah.

Lightning can easily fit into XIV, I mean she can traverse worlds AND time... having said that, would people flip out if any of the Chrono cast ended up in an instance? I wouldn't mind.

If this was Terra, or Celes, nobody would be protesting.

The problem is, FFXIII was a deeply polarizing game and the one most vocally criticized, even though it both sold and reviewed well.

Then you pile on the Sequel Stigma - the ode that everything that comes after an original Final Fantasy Game is crappy by default.

And then realize, hey, they're advertising a third game.

Yeah, it's hated for reasons mostly unrelated to the character.

To be honest, I rather enjoyed XIII-2, more so than the Original. And the Lightning DLC gave a taste of what the gameplay may well be like in the new game. Which, honestly, I found to be pretty darn good as well. So I'll be getting it.

As far as her presence in FFXIV? I don't mind it. It'll be interesting to see what happens for the quest line - and I wouldn't mind playing around with Fang's spear a bit.

Wait, maybe I'm dumb, but I don't get it. Where is it confirmed or even mentioned Lightning will be a character in FF XIV? I thought it was self-evident that this was just the FF XIV and XV producers F#(c)%ing around?

Not really. Plenty of people complained in the same fashion when they saw the Buster Sword, which is from the most beloved Final Fantasy game. What are you even talking about? It doesn't matter that it's Lightning or Sephiroth, it would be stupid regardless.

That's a Red Herring, the complaint about the Buster Sword Limit breaks (Braver and Sword Dance) had absolutely nothing to do with the fact that it was a buster sword. It had to do with the fact that the limit break had nothing to do with the class that was using it. IE - "WTF is a Dragoon doing with a Giant Sword!?"

It was a mechanics to class issue, not a "OMG THIS IS TOO MUCH FANSERVICE!" issue. Players wanted limit breaks that reflected the class they are, a complaint that continues.

So this must mean vanity slots aren't THAT far behind. That also must mean there will be armor designed specifically for these slots, so you can technically look the same no matter what class you are.

I wonder if you can dye the starting armor? I would totally do this instead of looking random all the time.

That's not even close to being factual, the most beloved FF is VII, i personally consider VI to be the best FF title ever, but VII is the game with the highest units sold, the game that the majority wants a remake off etc etc. VI is beloved just like the others, but it is not the MOST.
#50 Jul 07 2013 at 5:44 PM Rating: Default
agree to disagree then. units sold doesn't matter tho. if you knew how many times someone downloaded a snes emulator just for ff6 you may have a different opinion. but as long as me and you know 6 is best we can be friends =) (tried to name a free company "returners" but was taken already, that is my first goal in ffxiv arr)
