I am impressed with FFXIV as a modern, current MMORPG that does everything it needs to do.

I'm blown away by how much I like it.

Very well said. I feel like, as a foundation (or Vanilla, if you will) you can't ask for a whole lot more. Things like battle targeting WILL get remedied, but it's definitely not perfect. That being said, I feel like the people who worked on this gave me meat AND potatoes at launch. With MMORPGS, you almost HAVE to expect that the first expansion is that awkward part of the meal where the waiter realizes they goofed up and didn't bring out your appetizer. The trick is, the steak and potatoes have to be so good, that the waiter's blunder still leaves you with a smile.. That it adds 'character' to your dinner experience rather than "spoil the date" as it were.

It's a healthy dose of Final Fantasy and the MMO aspects are rich creamy gravy. There's also so much more of the world hinted at, even in the main quest line that you know SEs plans for this in the long-term are enormous. That has me excited! I like how much I am surprised by it, if that makes sense.

All I have to say is -

Since I am not a professional journalist or anything of the sort, I wouldn't take my time to write either lengthy / structured forum posts or articles (Articles are a recent thing, but you can find them right here on this ZAM forum if you like) related to the game...unless I was positively impressed.

Yes, the game is not 100% perfect, but if we were to make a "RottenTomatoes" kind of poll, it would "certify fresh" even now, at its non-final stage just yet.

So, simply put - Committing yourself to write, cumulatively, over 10,000 words in articles for a game? <raises hand>

If I was paid to do it, and hated the game, it'd be another story, but as I explained, it's exactly the opposite.

Echoing what many have said, not blown away, but very pleasantly surprised.

I've been in the game since the Alpha in December, and the changes that they have made....it's pretty amazing. The look and feel of the game has matured so much in so many right ways that I quickly went from "cautious optimism" to "excited fayboyism" by the time phase 2 ended.

But that excitement is tempered, because we still have phase 4 to get through, and then re-launch. There is still a lot that can be screwed up, and the stuff that needs the most focus is the stuff that has been hardest to test (high level and end game).

I'd assume that Yoshi thinks that endgame is going to be a constant state of revamping so it doesn't really matter when it's released.

I am with you though, on how much can go wrong. I'm by no means saying things will go wrong, but they're currently hiding a big chunk of the game until P4. I'd imagine that there's hundreds of quests, higher level dungeon mechanics, combat and a whole bunch of other stuff that we just haven't seen.

It really doesn't worry me that much though. This beta has been the most polished one I've ever been a part of, and really can't wait to get started actually playing.
