Hello all, a quick question if I may.

I have been playing FFXI since it's launch back in 2003 and FFXIV since Alpha a couple of years back.

I played FFXIV on through Alpha, Beta and the painful final result. I stuck around for a short while then retired.

I decided to come back when I got a Beta invite this time around. Originally, I had pre-ordered the collectors edition of FFXIV and because of that I got some special in game items, hermes shoes and a onion helm. I noticed my characters still existed on a server and still had those items.

My question is, when the final game comes out after Beta will my original collectors edition be enough? I'm not paying for the game twice just because it was so terrible they had to remake it.

My next question is, I saw my characters still had all their items on the server they were on, unfortunately it looks like it has turned out to be a JP server. Is there a way I'll be able to transfer these characters to another server?

Final question is, once the final game is up and this Beta is over, will I get to retain all the items I originally had? And will the new characters I create get Onion Helms and Hermes Shoes?

Thanks for any help. Much appreciated.

First, if you bought the collector's ed originally, you get most of the new collector's ed stuff, if not all, via moogle mail after launch

Second, yes, check your email for instructions on a server move, I have like two, but I'm not bothering.

Third, no idea about old 1.0 bonuses.

So not only do I get my Onion Helm and Hermes shoes, but I get new stuff from the new collectors edition as well? I noticed the new character I made on another server didn't get these when I made him, but is this just because you don't automatically get them in Beta? Only if your original characters had them? I guess once the game is actually launched the characters I make after that will get them, or maybe as of open beta?

Also, glad to know I can server move, it doesn't cost anything does it and is it pretty quick?

And finally, the items I crafted and bought, I will retain those and my original characters, right?

I know, I'm full of confusing questions, thank you for the help so far!

As for 1.0 items, I don't know if you will get new when you jump back in. I just know that if you look at the collector's ed page, it states lower down that those who bought 1.0 CE get 2.0 CE stuff. Your Legacy character will get imported as they were, though some gear might be locked down/unavailable. I don't have a high level legacy, so no idea on that. Server move is free AFAIK for now, as they are just giving people the chance to move to a regional server for them. I know the end date is coming up, but no idea when. I really have only seen it in my email as a reminder that I could, but really my old character will just remain where he is.

You are limited to legacy servers for moving your character, but that still gives you a few options.

Edit:

Ugh, crap

Hey Endless Journey,

I think you were my LS leader at launch of version 1.0. Did you set up "Transcendence"?

If it is you - I hope that you enjoy ARR and come back to play again - good luck!

Thank you for the help, Pawkeshup. Still trying to figure a lot of this out, I've been away for quite some time. What is legacy again?

Hallie, yes that was me. I made the forums and began anticipating FFXIV long before Alpha even arrived, I'm sure you remember. We were going to be a grand group but the game didn't really hold true to it's promises back then. Did some one actually continue it on?

A few of us did.I took a year off and then went back to the game when they got it into a playable state (I actually really enjoyed version1 in the end). There were a few others from our shell who moved on to my current LS (Chocobo Knights of the Apocolypse), but I can't remember who has been around since Transcendence and who joined since. I seem to recall Dubstep Ninja and Champagne Lafleur may have both been in Transcendence first and they were also there at the end. There are probably also others.

Edit: To answer your question re. legacy. Legacy is a status awarded to players who paid to play for a certain period once SE introduced monthly fees. Essentially a reward for supporting the game whilst it was being rebuilt. There are a few access and item benefits to being legacy as well as having had access to most phases of Beta. In addition legacy players (like anyone who played 1.0) can continue with their previous characters so if you had some higher level characters you wanted to play with you can log into your old account with A Realm Reborn and your progress will have been saved.

Sorry, been off the forums a couple days, missed out on some discussions and answering this.

Legacy = anyone who played 1.0 to any extent. Your character apparently is still there, but to stop someone from going onto a new server and just instantly being a capped crafter or high level farmer of items, you are locked onto a set of legacy servers, but they will also have new servers where people will all be starting fresh.

Legacy =\= anyone who played version 1 but it is correct that those who had characters in version 1.0 can only play on the legacy servers.

Legacy players receive additional benefits for paying for three consecutive months during the pay to play release.

I think the confusion comes from SE naming the old servers "legacy" servers but in reality, on those servers will be mostly a mix of legacy and non legacy players from version 1 (with a few new players thrown in for good measure who want to have an easier time levelling up with a cheap and plentiful supply of low level gear for sale).

I think it makes more sense to distinguish Legacy Status from all other things Legacy (which generally means anything from 1.0 in official FFXIV parlance, like it or not). There are way more Legacy players without Legacy Status, and I think for the sake of simplicity, we should think of it that way. There's a good chance many of them will be back for ARR and this question of what Legacy means is only going to get confusing if we insist that Legacy = Legacy Status and nothing else.

** The Collector's Edition digital upgrade offers customers the ability to upgrade their standard FFXIV account to digital Collector's Edition status via the “FFXIV Service Center” website that is scheduled to be opened at the launch of official service, which then grants the in-game bonus items included with the Collector's Edition. Customers in possession of the Collector's Edition for either version 1.0 or A Realm Reborn will receive these Collector's Edition items without needing to purchase the upgrade.

- Not sure if that helps. Ran into this today when I was taking a look on the pre-order bonuses.
