Would you, could you, with a mog?
Would you, could you, in a bog?

I do not like troll threads and spam.
I do not like them, Bartel Man.

You do not like them.
SO you say.
Try them! Try them!
And you may.
Try them and you may I say.

I don't agree, I would not dare,
for saying that would not be fair.

These cons are not the ones, I say,
that make me not log in to play.

There is one con, and only one,
I would log out for lack of fun.

Are they coherent or insane?
When all they do is ***** and complain.

There are reasons to search and explore.
With no fast travel option, my fingers get sore.

Speed of combat don't matter. As long as it's deep.
If it's shallow, it makes this grown man weep.

Something I may not like, I must confess.
It might be all, these filler quests.

All these worries, and the game hasn't come out.
Relax, smoke a pipe, and blow that smoke out.

biggest con is:

-They literally hired Michael Bay to direct their combat style, everything in the game is extremely flashy and over the top even regular auto attacks. When you play solo mode its fine but in a party it is too much for the eyes.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v7ssUivM-eM

-also combat is slow ? i felt it was too fast myself i prefer slower more tactical rather than what the game has now with ultra spamming keys everywhere.

- I do not like party shared limit breaks either I prefer the old style of combat chains they used to have in 1.0 where weapon skills and magic could be combined. They completely removed it and replaced it with this new style which i am not big fan off.

I really want to know where all these people have been testing end-game combat. I truly do, because I'm very interested if they're right when they say it's slow, stale, and boring. Soloing a level 50 mob isn't really awe-inspiring, in any game, but serious people don't take that as an example of end game content seriously. I want to hear from the guys who blew through the high level dungeons and entry level raids to see if it still feels the same way. Intricate fights that require some forethought, communication, and skill, not the level 50 Aldegoat Nanny huffing around up a hill.

I keep hearing about how slowly abilities are given out, and I keep thinking to other MMO's where the only time I get abilities at a faster pace is when they are so situational I don't touch them until the end game anyway. The rate I gained abilities in the Beta, by time played, was as quick as I gained abilities in any other game, with the difference being that level 50 in one job isn't the end of your leveling experience. There's another, what, 16x50 levels to be gained before you've finished, to gain abilities from other jobs and classes that make your main class better? By level 35 in the Beta, I had plenty to keep me occupied, and more when I started 2nd, 3rd, and 4th jobs. I didn't have the unnecessary situational bloat though that I suppose makes people feel like they have more to do. I've never been of mind that an empty hotkey slot is bad if the thing I could put there is an ability I'll never touch. I do get coming from another MMO where you have one or several max level characters it feels empty and abilities are slow, but I find it hard to believe even at level 35 with multiple jobs it's really that severe and barren.

I don't get what people are comparing it to, I suppose. I can't think of any MMO that is fast-paced, intricate, and intense at level 10. I've played a lot, and they all start slowly as you learn the game and pick up towards the middle to end, except GW2. That one didn't really change. Things got bigger, but you were doing the same crap you were at level 1. I guess if you're comparing XIV to God of War it's slow and uninspired, but MMO to MMO, it's on par with most others at minimum.

I agree with most of them, although I didn't have any trouble with the targeting and the combat speed is OK to me.

I have to strongly agree with the monotony of most of the quests/leves. A lot of them are very MMO generic, although the story quests and some others were pretty interesting.

My biggest issue is with the world as you addressed. As far as I played there didn't seem like much reason to return to areas other than leveling a new job/farming something. It seems like a lot of going from point to point and being done with it. What I enjoyed most about FFXI was that every zone was interesting and had tons of different random things that required exploration within. Every area was fun to be in (except Promnivons. Whomever came up with those zones needs to die in a fire). Hopefully they provide reasons to return to lower level areas later on.

I myself am only really concerned about the bold one. I mean as for combat being slow well I love FFXI and that combat is slo.. soooo yeah, as for targeting be a mess.. what could be messy about either tabbing to what you wanna attack then attack or simply clicking on it then attacking, surely you can perform functions that basic for targeting right? As for no voice chat.. I played FFXI on console (not pc which means no vent or anything like that) for 5+ years so voice chat (or lackthereof) is clearly not an issue to me.

As for the quests well I did like that 90% of FFXIs quests were actually unique/had a story/or some thought behind them but its obviously that a game whos premise is mainly based on quest leveling and not sitting in an exp party for hours to level up that the quests will be bland, fetch type quests where there are thousands of quests to do as opposed to FFXIs hundreds, so while i might not like it its definitely to be expected an makes sense

As for interface and menus all RPGs have menu navigation like that including FFXIs which ppl could consider "bad" I mean who actually used the menu in FFXI outside maybe teh first 10 levels? Eventually you learn to bypass the menu entirely because everything could be macroed and handled with on eor two button presses, as for controls the game worked just fine on a ps2 gamepad. Im sure those same things can be said about XIV, so again the only part Im really questioning is the bold part.. i mean having huge world with nothing to search for, collect or interact with (like maybe a treasure chest laying around) makes teh world seem shallow and lifeless, FFXI always had stuff laying around to find or interact with even if it was completely useless (like most likes IRL that you find laying on the ground)

I would suggest playing ARR yourself and forming your own opinion. Getting insight on a game via forums can also have its cons. Forums for any game will have extreme opinions. Some people slam for the sake of slamming.

"Cons-combat, targeting was a mess, found it slow, frustrating and unsatisfying

I don't like the targeting or all the effects. I think the effects will be able to be turned off in the settings eventually if not already. But I do not think the combat is slow, I like it.

-chat, with no voice chat it just adds to the frustration while in a dungeon or mid combat

Bothers me on the ps3, it should have been included there. Pc I will skype.

-no interactions, no collecting or searching the world for anything

What?'

-quests, I thought the quests were extremely boring and not just the 100s of fetch quests but the dungeons themselves, I can't see myself wanting to return to any of them.

So far I have enjoyed the side questing and I like questing for exp and hope it stays that way.
I like not having to go to the wiki to read up on a quest that made no sense and I have no Idea how anyone ever figured it out like in FFXI
I have not done much of the story line so cant comment I hope it is good.

-interface, I found the controls and menus just as frustrating, nothing was seamless or effortless."

The PC interface is fine..
Ps3 needs some work. You get stuck in the sub menses sometimes and have to hit the back button all the time. Really hard to figure out where the cursor is.
