I've been trying to login in since 7am it's now 20 minutes to 12 and I haven't gotten past the start/config screen..sorry about th elanguage but this is ABSOLUTE ********* is anyone having the same issue?

I got in at 5am, then played for ten minutes and logged out to go to work. I guess I'm glad I'm at work. The server must be crowded. What server are you trying to get into?

Im still trying to get to the server list/character creation, I havent even gotten a highlighted start button yet

Dang. Maybe they are just having some server side issues that will sort themselves out. Hang tight and I'm sure that it will resolve itself with a little time.
ok, NM then, I was going to say that mine worked fine this morning but I have PS3 version.

I agree, how many potential customers is this going to turn away seeing as this is the free trial part of beta.
No problem seeing those customers leave when they fail to realize open beta is still beta. when you have an overabundance of new and old players in a single zone, that is bound to happen, especially on day 1 of open beta stress testing.
Edit: Not to mention the number of people trying to just get pass the main screen.

People need to calm down. The sky is not falling. It's a beta weekend and everyone who can is trying to log on. Everyone should have seen this server congestion coming. It will calm down as the weekend goes. Anyone who judges the game off of congestion caused by the game being popular... Good riddance.

From what I've been reading, a lot of the not letting people join is a way of balancing population between servers. Once all the characters are made why wouldn't it clear up. Besides it is still beta and what mmo has EVER made a launch without congestion.

Which makes zero sense on the legacy servers, since they are already populated by legacy, to lock them out of the legacy players already there from p3.

Turn away potential customers? Come on we are are talking for open beta this is the ACTUAL reason why you play in the open beta. To stress the servers so they can have everything ready for release. It is reasonable to have problems now. If people decide not to play the game for this reason then well...I can only say LOL.
As for the OP tough luck I guess man. :/ I had problems logging only the first 20 minutes after that I logged 2 or three times and had no problem. Not to mention I am playing for hours with 0 lag. So I guess you got unlucky maybe? :/

What you need to do (if you're on windows 7), My computer>Documents>My Games>Final Fantasy XIV A Realm Reborn>FFXIV (cfg file)
The FFXIV file can be edited with notepad, scroll down to CutsceneMovieOpening 0
Change the 0 to a 1, and now the option to play the movie appears in the start menu, just hit start and it'll skip the movie and bring you directly to the character selection screen.

That doesn't mean something. Even them should be aware of the stress test that will occur in it. Thats the way it goes. That is also the reason many people don't play a lot in the release date cause they know they will have problem with logging in. It has been like taht in almost every single MMO.
The purpose of a beta is for the developers to test the game/servers. Free trial is just a bonus but not the main reason.

Every beta I've tested wasn't much different on launch than it was on the last phase. ARR at launch is essentially going to be P4 with the level restriction lifted.
"It's just beta" didn't fly 3 years ago and it's certainly not going to fly now. It's not like they haven't had months to sort out what they need to support the number of players trying to login. They're the ones who control who gets access. I don't get it.
