[EU] Procedures during Periods of High Congestion (Aug. 21)
We are expecting major congestion during the period starting with the Early Access on Aug. 24, 2013 at 09:00 (GMT) leading up to the official game launch on Aug. 27, 2013 (GMT).

If a large volume of players attempt to login to the game simultaneously, certain players may receive the following message: “This World is currently full. Players in queue: ##.” If you receive this message, we ask that you please wait until your login is processed.

In addition, in order to avoid server congestion related issues from multiple characters concentrating in the starting areas, we may implement restrictions on logins and/or the creation of new characters for a period of time after the servers open to the public.

We apologise in advance for any inconvenience this may cause and thank you for your understanding. (3) Reply With Quote .

It's the same thing that they did for Phase 4, just let it sit and you'll get in eventually. Once I was booted when the servers went down and when I logged back in it said there were 197 ahead of me and not 3 minutes later I was in.

My biggest complaint was that half the time there was no queue, so you had to keep going back to the login screen and clicking through to your character login over and over and over and over and over again...

They should just put you in the queue, even if its 1,000 players deep, so you can just relax wait to get in.

Same here... only it was because my mother called and I had to log out to use Skype without it acting all squirrely. Jumped back on into a queue but only lasted 45 seconds at the most.

queues aren't a big deal, as long as i can play i'm fine with waiting a bit.

But it lookslike they will be doing the character lockouts again which is not cool. Queues Im ok with not locking out your friends from joining.

I got booted and when I logged back in I had about a 15 minute wait, but it was midway through the first day of beta and Hyperion was butts to nuts.

I agree with you here. Locking out character creation on servers really stinks. A bunch of my friends weren't able to log in to open beta because of work, and by the time they could, they had completely closed off character creation for Ultros. If they do it again for launch, I might not even get to play on the same server as some of my friends, as I know they won't want to keep while the game is live. I'm hopeful that they just open up a bunch more worlds.

Then friends will probably have to wait until the new servers are full. Some of my LS had to wait to play during Phase 4 when they did that, sucks but how else do you load balance?

I have family who are on ultros, but they want to join me on excalibur and may not be able to

I don't like the character creation lockouts either, but these companies do not go out and double their servers for a week. It costs too much. This congestion happens at every release and expansion for every major MMO. This isn't an SE specific issue.

Hrm.

I wonder if this is why Gold World Pass was implemented in FFXI.

They should shut down some of there FFXI servers that are probably going to lose a butt ton of people because of FFXIV and just make those servers available for the FFXIV people.

Don't you mean that's what it would be like trying to install Windows 8 on ANY computer? :) I kid, of course. Your analogy is perfect.

I work with servers all day and have for a long time now. Adding a server to a service/game like this or repurposing an older one for a 'newer' purpose is never, ever as simple as it may seem. Just throwing the software or operating system onto one is never enough. And even if you do a perfect clone of one system onto another system that is, hardware-wise, exactly the same, you'll almost never get identical results. Actually, I must admit that very rarely, you get lucky and things work out perfectly. Most of the time, though, you must do additional work and then get the pre-existing hardware/software to work nice with the new. Repurposing unused or unneeded Final Fantasy XI servers is a nice idea, but it would definitely require quite a bit of work and upgrading in order to work.

I'm sure a lot of you already knew this, but just thought I'd throw it out there. :)

Honestly you can sit at world screen and hit refresh until the server opens, I had to wait 18mij to play on Sargantas but I eventually got in, so if you really wanna play with your friends it's just a matter of waiting. I honestly don't mind because at least they're giving us the option to pick our server when I first started FFXI you were put into a random server unless someone got you a worldpass so at least SE isn't doing that again.

Server virtualization helps.

Honestly the only time I complain is when there ISN'T a queue. There is always more of a crush on servers on launch/patch days and then it slacks off. It's a waste of money to invest in more servers (virtual or physical, there is a cost associated with both) just to have it sit idle a couple weeks later. I've had queues to log into game servers in games for most of my gaming career, it really isn't annoying. What IS annoying is to get mysterious errors that just simply don't let you in, period, a la Error 37 from D3 or Error 3102 from P4 beta.

And people thought this would a non-issue for EA/Launch. There are going to be people that preordered that will be unable to log in the entirety of EA and probably part of launch as well. So much for justifying that extra $20 for the digital CE.

If you get in you better stay logged in XD.

hat will be me, I will be there at 2 am sharp to log in and stay logged in as I get a good nights sleep. I know its unfair to those who would log in and actually play at that time, but Im selfish, and thats se's fault for designing a system that would allow afking to be detrimental

Damned if they do damned if they don't.. Have a feeling Square is being cheap and looking at the bottom line. They could open a few more servers but what if people don't stay or phase 4 was a fluke since it was free? To them they wonder why spend that money that may or may not be needed after a month. Though that outlook may or may not help them in the long run if they are right well they saved some money if they are wrong they could lose a lot more. Let's just hope they are looking into being able to up the server capacity. Or at least institute temporarily the inability to stay logged in idle for longer than say half an hour without being booted.

At least until they reboot the servers or bring them down for emergency maintenance an hour after you fall asleep. That happened to me, I think in Aion.
