I never seen a challenge really work in MMOs. I won't doubt it will not be a ton of players though.

Absolute virtue/pandemonium warden

then again, those two are a bit above mere "challenges" and are more like "WHAT SORTA BS IS THIS?!"

Did we ever figure out that hint video for AV?

Hazy since it's been a while, but I think the following was ultimately discovered or simply disclosed to us:
- Negate JoL's regen prior to the AV pop.
- Nuke AV with elements current to the day to further reduce his regen.
- When it uses a 2 hour, someone must use that same 2 hour within 3 seconds to negate further use of it.

Even with this known under the 75 cap, he was still a ***** when he switched modes and started getting meteor happy. At which point, the combined 2 hour timer between him and JoL made drawn out fights an enemy. As such, zergs simply shifted from KC DRKs to whatever strong DDs could fit in the BRD rotation while support did their thing out of party.

Honestly, party swapping/BRD rotations were one of the worst things to come of XI's combat system and I hope such isn't encouraged here by simply making those desired buffs alliance-wide if they're that crucial.

As for the main topic, unless it is AV dumb, Yoshi's basically underestimating the no-lifers. As well, you can guarantee there will be ******** about how easy things are should that 100 number be exceeded, and exponentially more so the more zeroes you add to the tally. Personally, I'm not a fan of what amounts to boasting over exclusionary content and those who believe it'll foster aspirations from lesser players are being dreadfully optimistic without requirements being known. Should the endgame be an environment where only sub-10% of the population thrives, the game will be in trouble.

In Version 1.0 they had a contest about who can beat Garuda the fastest and they were showing off how long it took players to take down Ifrit and Good King Moggle Mog primals.

A team of BLMs burned her down in just a few hours due to being a trick where her 2 hour ability can be skipped and the contest ended way earlier than expected.

Well, here is my theory on this.

In the same interview, he says that Bahamut's Coil is harder than The Crystal Tower. Well... CT is coming in patch 2.1 "sometime in 2013."

If it's considered easier, it probably has lower iLVL gear. This gear is probably a gap in content, like Ilvl 80, while the gear in Bahamut's Coil is iLVL 90 (The alaggan items in the latest DAT mine).

So I imagine, that the people who clear it will have to do so with iLVL 70 gear, making it much much harder until patch 2.1.

Just my theory.

Ugh, so they're doing what they did in XI with the Adoulin Delve vs Skirmish vs Bayld gear cluster@#%^?

SE: Release the hardest content first! Watch them struggle hahaha.

SE two weeks later: Oh wait, there was an unexpected exploit and now our player base is divided into haves and have nots! NERF IT... but don't roll anyone back. Everyone else complaining, you're doing it in the wrong order. Go back to Neo Nyzul Isle before you try this Extremely Hardmode Content (that is now easy mode for the Haves.)

Merf. We're still recovering from that.

i think you're being a bit premature in your FFXI comparison. If its literally impossible to clear the Coil without gear from the Tower, then there shouldnt be a problem.

we're just going to have to wait and see. If yoshi's intent was to get people like me EVEN MORE HYPED UP THEN I ALREADY AM, well he certainly succeeded.

He is going to be badly mistaken. Either that or the final boss is literally unkillable with current gear or something.

I think he's just a marketing genius. He is challenging those people to play obsessively, post videos of world firsts to youtube, create more hype, create an elite class of player that casual players aspire to and chase like a carrot.

Even if he's wrong, people like me will be trying to be one of the 100 or 1,000 or 10,000.

I just hope he doesn't embarrass himself. I like that guy and it would be a shame for people to breeze through it like /yawn and tell him they're afk til 2.1 Smiley: laugh

Its personal preference and all, but yes we need to educate WoW players that this is OUR game, these are Characters and not Toons. Time to beat that into them one at a time.

Yep! He just called out all the hard-core players and they are going take the challenge to heart. Hell, even I want to finish that content now.

So far every time they've issued something like this it's blown up in their faces.

Every primal they put out they tried estimating the time it would take for anybody to beat it in weeks, and it went from days to hours as the primals were released.

I have a feeling it won't be hours, but it'll be plenty of people and quick enough.

Do it with gear from over a tier behind, that'll be pretty challenging

What do you think? Is Yoshi-P over-exaggerating, or challenging us?

Awesome 40 minute Gamescon Interview

He mentions this around 8:30

Probably a challenge, or troll when you start doing it and find out you have to wait till next update to actually complete it and those 100 were just internal staff.

After watching naked Ifrit fights, I kinda laugh that he thinks people will play by the rules.

Bahamut will be conquered. Not by skill (per-say), not by dedication (the way that he is thinking), but by a stupid glitch. People will beat on it up until they find a gap, a hole in the logic. They will then attempt to rip that whole thing open until they leave bahamut crying on the ground begging "Please, just finish me...". It will be a slaughter in a way that Yoshi could not even predict.

So is the way of MMOs. No planner can cover all possible exploits, and lets face it. The Final Fantasy community has proven (and MMO, and Gaming for that matter) that if an exploit exists, it will always be used to the greatest advantage as fast as it can.
