I'm really enjoying myself. I think the pacing is great! I've been taking my time, just figuring out how to navigate Eorzea.

Stop everything you're doing and do FATES if one is nearby (unless it is ridiculously under your level).

Do not sell your gear! You don't get crap for selling your gear in this game and the stuff that is soulbound can be turned into Materia later on.

Take your first job to 20 before considering something else. You might run into an odd quest in your travels that requires at least a level 19 to unlock and you can switch on the fly without worries.

As soon as you reach level 15, your top priorities should be to clear your Hunting Log and to do at least each dungeon once since the XP bonuses are huge.

Keep everything that drops. You have a ton of storage slots starting out in this game and it will make grinding a trade a little bit easier in the long run.

Be mindful of quests that give you unique equipment. Buy the generic equipment when you can afford to so that way you can focus on meaningful upgrades from quests.

Try to join a party when doing low level quests that require multiple enemies be killed that have limited spawns. Competing with ten or fifteen people for common mobs is just dumb. A little sense of community will go a very long way.

Remember to spend your talent points so you're not gimp in the Duty Finder.

That's my "get you through 20" friendly guide. Happy adventuring everyone!

game is decent... not what i want. Playable at best will see what come further down the road.

Things i hate about this is.

1. Leve no longer provide material for crafting. So those want to level crafting MUST level a field craft which sucks to the core.
2. Field craft is horrible. Degraded version... i want 1.0 version. or more exp on it. The idea not seeing nodes when you aren't on the job make it worse. so you have to be on the job to look for them. Switching job hurts timer on skills
3. too little quests to support leveling. Hate to rely on leve and repeat fates or grind.
4. Leve limit is @ 50...should be larger
5. Teleport cost gil ...i rather they put aminus system back seriously i don't have much gil.
6. Limit of armory chest especially weapon
7. market still won't let you buy single item from bundle sales
8. I actually like retainer market back in 1.0 for some random browser surprise but keeping marketing system is ok too.
9. i want Bazaar from FFXI
10. Give me back Behest
11. No mean to form alliance yet (at least i don't know how)
12. and lastly, remove armors from quest rewards...it make crafting for low level or maybe high level pretty useless when you can't sell armors..what is the point of crafting?
13. job switch timer... is a terrible idea It isn't like i can switch job in battle.

1. I personally like that I have to provide my own stuff, it makes sense /opinion
2. Never did 1.0 so no comment
3. story quests will get one job to 50, the amount of Leves, Dungeons, and FATEs should make leveling alts pretty easy.
4. I have 54 leves atm.
5. Chocobo service is nearly free.
6. This game has a more inv slots than any game I have ever played.
7. Agreed
8. see 2
9. Agreed
10. ?
11. there is, I believe you can combine 3 full parties for 24 people.
12. Crafters can make HQ and also socket armors, there will always be a market for that.
13. agreed.

Is there an extra charge for alts, like there was in XI? I'm thinking about making an alt on a JP server, and only play it while NA servers are down.

Everything seems really smooth before the df died actually. Really having fun and people i've met so far seem cool.

As far as tips, unlock your stuff first (chocobo, wards, etc) before worrying about a second class. And you can buy decent low level stuff from the markets to fill out your equips.

Good tip, for those of us just joining (not from beta), What are the unlockables, level requirements and locations?

Most of its through the main story line, but your chocobo, retainer, airships, teleporting crystals & dungeons stick out in my mind.

Can you imagine how bad it would be if dragoons actually had a pet? :3

ETA: I fail at quoting. In response to there being a crapload of arcanists and dragoons ._.

This can be done :-) I have an alt on a JP server atm. 8 chars per server, As many servers as you want. Not sure on the hardcap of total chars though. I have multiple characters across a few servers.

I'm enjoying this game far more than expected. The beta phase really helped me learn how to play it. I can't wait to get back on when the maintenance is over.

For those of you who actually got to do beta and/or played 1.0. Do you guys have any tips to throw out for others that didn't get to participate in beta?

My best advice for you is, 90% of the things you want to do in the game are going to be unlocked by doing the main story quest. So always do your story quests as a first priority over anything else, and if you're not high enough level to take the next one, remember exactly where the next one is received, so you can take it when you level up.

Also, new class quests open up every 5 levels. Do them as soon as they are available, they give valuable gear and sometimes they give you valuable abilities too.

Also, if you see a merchant who is selling orange juice, buy a few and hold onto them. You'll be glad you did.

There is not. At least not in the same way, i.e. per character.

Entry accounts can have up to 1 character on a server, and 8 characters total, while Standard/Legacy accounts can have 8 characters per server and 40 total across all servers.

I'm really happy I got the chance to try P3. Gave me a chance to try check out the cities, classes, and guilds before deciding which way I would want my final character to go. Also helped with getting familiar with the main storyline so I could sort of fast track it on day 1 of P4. I've settled on Gladiator, cooking and alchemy for now. It's easy to get distracted with so much stuff to do, so maybe it's best to identify what you want from the game early....unless you've got a ton of time to play. It seems Gladiator's helped me a lot with solo fights for the storylines....not sure how some of the other jobs would handle those though.

Also, I've found that it's best to just use chocobo porters and airships instead of paying all the gil for teleports. Saves me a lot.

I like the game. I'm still having trouble with the controller targeting though and some of the target filters are buggy.

I'm a little disappointed that PVP, housing, etc. got delayed.

This is good advice, but I will say leveling a second job is helpful. I started as a Tum mage, and once a friend helped me unlock the whm job to cure myself and protect it made the quest and game so much easier for whatever I was doing. So I do recommend leveling a healing job as support job at least.

I decided to plow through the entire marauder through warrior quest up to the level 50 one (I couldn't start the level 50 one due to instances not working properly). You don't have to team up even once while doing these quests. I couldn't enter the instances if I was in a party because of these are meant to be done solo, meaning I have to leave the party if I'm waiting with my party to start an event. Some of these AF quest fights in 1.0 was very fun to do. My impression so far is that you don't have to team up with others to finish job related quests which is fine I guess as being stuck on a particular quest with a good ability locked behind it could put a serious damper on your progression on everything else.

1. The point of this is because mats are about 10x easier to get than in 1.0.
2. I love the new DoH interface. It got REALLY old playing the mini-game every, single swing, cast or chop. Every time. Ugh. The nodes not showing up is a bit of a back-step in terms of user friendliness though it falls in line with the entire Armoury system's concept. Don't like it either, just sayin'.
3. Not really, there are about 10 other ways to level now. Were we still in 1.0, i'd agree.
4. See #3.
5. I'd rather it cost gil. You are seriously saying you can't afford 200g for a teleport cross-continent? Anima regeneration was horrible, and you're still limited either way, just by different factors.
6. Seeing as there's only the need for one weapon/tool per class/job, you still have six slots to spare for off-set gear. There is nothing in the game which requires you to carry more than one set per. Even with everything unlocked you're still duplicated on a LOT of the gear, so you should have spare space.
7. This I totally agree on, removal or forgetting of the individual purchases within a stack is just stupid. My biggest complaint is the market system currently, which was one of them from 1.0 as well. They had it almost perfect when 1.0 ended, take us back to that.
8. See #7
9. Nah, not needed. However, I totally do not understand the purpose of my retainer being removed from the market sales floor when I summon him. I understand the reason of why, just not the logic when i'm trying to sell stuff. 'Oh wait, I know you're mid-purchase, by my master is hollering at me to store his junk from killing sprites'.
10. Hello, you have FATE.
11. No reason to, as yet.
12. Yes, I agree, there are too many item rewards that are duplicates and remove the need for 1-20 crafted items from the game.
13. Yes, the timer needs to be removed. In-battle job switching will likely never happen, and serves no purpose anyhow with the rare exception of maybe an emergency tank or healer.

I am abosutely loving it. I played FFXI for five years, and the years since then I have been looking for that "FFXI" feel. I played WoW for years, then LoTRO, then SWTOR, Rift, et cetera, et cetera. Nothing felt like home, not until I logged in to FFXIV. I am happy to be home =)
