Yoshi-P gets emotional at launch eventFollow

#27 Aug 27 2013 at 7:20 AM Rating: Excellent
Quite remarkable what he's done, the guy just gets the MMO genre. The server issues will resolve in a week or two and all of this will be forgotten, then I'll be one of those angry folk down the road. "Why are they doing maintenance on a Monday morning! I had today off! This is ********************** old MMO addiction, how I've missed you.

I dont blame him he made a great game... I blame Square enix a company that is broke and has no money or resources to stick behind his game.

I think it's nice that he's showing that much emotion. I think it shows that he really cares about his game.

Ok, i know i'm pretty new to the forums but even I already know what kind of poster you are. I see your name as the OP and i already have a idea of what your going to say, and guess what, i haven't been wrong yet. As Wink said previously, I would like to believe you but we all know that for every believe there is a lie in the middle of it all.

Next time you see Yoshi in the super market (as you previously posted) why not ask him what the problem is, then let us mortals know.

i thought this was great. I love that he cares enough about his game to break down and show emotion. Idk if OP posted this from a negative place or not, but for me the effect was nothing but positive. ******* Yoshi P. What a dude.

Ryan, he is a troll. He also knows he is one. He has been told, repeatedly, over and over, as long as I've been here. Best thing to do is ignore him and one day he will find another MMO to complain about. So until then, Smiley: rolleyes

The attention you give Killua just causes him to keep posting, you know.

Anyway, much respect to Yoshida. He's done a fine job leading this thing and he's still got a lot of work cut out for him.

Look, the game itself is fantastic. To go from 1.0 to ARR is nothing short of a god given miracle. No other MMO has actually stopped, killed the old version, and rebuilt from the bottom up. That is an accomplishment that reaches legendary status. He and his team have nothing to be disappointed about on that aspect.

It is the service aspect that crashed and burned. It is not dead in the water, but it is problematic and needs fixed. Account problems, login issues, server capacity... while part of the game experience, are a black mark on the package, not on the game itself. But like all things, it can be fixed and improved. They showed that with the game... Timing of it though is awful.

Sheesh it a culture thing that's what they do, they cry while apologizing then move on. Westerners cry just before we break down drop the mike and walk off stage. It's launch day at least you found something for the naysayers of ARR to be happy about.

Poor Yoshi-P. This must just be killing him! The game is great though. And everything will work out in the end.

Video of a crying Yoshi.

I appreciate the video but knowing you, I can't help but read your tone with that of triumph.

Seriously, I don't see why he has to apologize that the game is so good that the number of logins are crashing the server, we just need more updates on the progress to fix it.

Best game of all time is being run on the worst servers of all time. It's not his fault. It's the management that makes the decisions everyone is paying for. All the same, even the brass knows that having a successful MMO does more for their bottom line than just about anything else they can do, so FFXIV will be running great soon. I have faith in this. If not for the fact that the bean counters in Corp Finance will make them upgrade this stuff.

This comes straight from reddit, for the same video:

Quote:
TRANSLATION:
Disclaimer: I listened through this once and translated it as I went, and am also drunk. However I am a professional translator for a tech company and the below is probably 90 % correct.
From here on out is the beginning of the speech
I'm tearing up guys.
First of all I want to say that I sorry for having to going into maintenance of the NA/EU servers. I want to apologize for taking precious time away from players during early access. From here on out is a long journey/ starts to tear up, crowd gives encouragement Its almost been 3 years since I took over development for FFXIV.
At the time I hadn't been involved with the game that much and thought that it wouldn't be that big of a deal. I've always loved final fantasy and have always loved mmo's starts to tear up again. At the time, I gathered the team together and told them that we were going to remake the game just two days before we announced it to all of you on December 2nd.
I still remember it now, but at the time, we were in a studio like this one, and Souken (current director of game music) was in the background checking my mic levels. I clearly remember him standing there give me a guts pose (one fist in the air, think rocky) but at the time I had the same kind of worries as the players; how is this really going to turn out?... Isn't this going to be impossible.... pauses
But one by one I got support from all of you. It was said in the questions earlier, but normally an mmo takes 4-5 years to create and carefully plan. Earlier, Wada said his role is a tank. I had the same idea of being a tank when making this game. Up until now I have gone through each facet of the game (implies that he also bore all of the responsibility).
But I am not saying that it is just me who made FFXIV ARR. This was all due to the players around the world, the core staff here, and the hundreds of staff not here today. I came here today planning on not crying, but today we have final taken the first step with ffxiv arr. And it is only the first step. Honestly I don't think we have any time to rest. We are working on patches and expansions.
More than anything I want to thank the players, especially those who started from the original ffxiv, and those that have joined out community. Thank you all for all of your support so far. I only hope that we have released a game that will not bring shame to square enix. from here on out there is no finishing an mmorpg. FFXIV:ARR is not a game that we made alone, but a game that we made along with all of you. From here on out we home to keep creating this game from here on out, from this place with you for 5-10 years.
I again want to say thank you for all you have done so far and we hope for your support in the future. bows

I like how each time Killua posts does it in a way that he will give a piece of "news" (lol) but he will twist it so much to serve his trolling. That sir is a great trolling attempt.

Nevertheless Yoshi is obviously moved that his work/project is finally over and he is again obviously happy that people liked it thus why he is crying. Not say I know japanese but for me it is kinda obvious since it is the launch.

Killua looks so stupid now.

These server problems are annoying as hell, but they will be fixed soon, and then we'll be left with this fun, amazing game.

Yoshi-P did it!

He teared up before he got to talking about the server problems - he was clearly emotional about the effort to make the game and how well he thinks the team did. I found the apology about the server issues rather short and vague, actually (I live in Tokyo, and speak Japanese).

It's a positive response to his team being able to accomplish the impossible and a solemn promise to keep working hard. Can't hate anyone for that.

In a land where honor is everything, I think he feels that he failed. He didn't fail, he delivered a wonderful game and I am totally addicted to it. The server issue was frustrating, yes, but I will always see Yoshi-P, and his team, as a success.
