I got leather to 15 maybe higher its a lot of fun unlocked a few other ones just so I could eventually lvl them ..... one job ability I'm not sure of just yet is the observ optu on I don't know why I would have to use it if any one could shed some light on that I would greatly appreciate it

I believe you're asking about the observe skill for crafting?

If so.. I would like to be enlightened on it's use. Up until lvl 25 Armorer, I still haven't found a situation where observe would be useful.

Its to change the Condition of the item, if Condition is "good" you can observe is and it could change to "excalent" or back to "normal" or if the condition is "poor" you can observe it and it will change to "normal" it comes in handy when tryin to HQ some times.

I thought the condition status was dictated by the durability percentage. If so, does observing have the potential of increasing/decreasing the durability?

Im now sure what causes condition to change, i just know observe dosent use any durability just CP, and that it changes the condition i dont know how often it works, some times ill Observe when its "normal" and it dosent change, it just stays "normal" but sometimes it changed to "good"

Interesting. I wish the action tooltip would do a better job at explaining it's purpose. Furthermore, I have had my game tips toggled on since I started the game and I don't recall any tips regarding the condition outside of durability talk. I might have just missed it though.

Yep, this is exactly what I was going to post. Also, pro-tip for those new to crafting, the lev. 15 skill from weaver, Careful Synthesis,is one of the best skills in the game. It's a 100% success chance, and gives about 5 less progress than what standard synth does. So if you only have 10% durability left, you are guaranteed to complete the craft if your progress takes it to 100%. Rapid synthesis, the 15 armorer skill, is also incredibly useful for anything that has a very high progress bar (90+). It is basically like a triple standard synth, but at only 40% success. If you combine it with steady hand however, it bumps up to 70% and becomes incredibly valuable for saving progress for HQ attempts.

Just some food for thought.

Which classes can Careful Synthesis be shared between? This sounds incredibly useful-- thanks for the info.!

All. Every Level 15 ability (if you check the tooltip) is "Disciple of the Hand" requirement, rather than GSM/WVR etc. Some are definitely more useful than others (with the WVR one probably topping the list, allowing you to squeeze the most out of that last 10 durability), but it's quite worth getting them all up. All of the <15 crafts can be done with mats bought from the guild vendor solely, or if you are willing to travel you can pick up the "base" components from other guilds. E.g. working on GSM last night, they use buttloads of copper ingots at low levels - past about level 10, it's a waste of time to do yourself (but fairly easy to HQ, if you're after quality components for HQ gear) - but go to the LTW guild, and they sell copper ingots for 9 gil each (as they're needed in a handful of lower LTW recipes). Leather circles can be bought from the GSM guild in return (reciprocal arrangements, ya know?).

Of course, this peters out around 15 - but by this stage, you're actually spending significant time out in the field gathering mats. On MNR, I blew through 1 - 10 in about 1 1/2 hours (even then, it was easy paced), so my window of getting copper ore (while it was exp-worthwhile) was small. Much rather pay 6 gil for 3 ores into an ingot, or 9 gil for a finished product, than take 30 sec to find pull out 3 ores, for about 50 exp total. 10 - 15 was slower, so I worked on the iron veins outside Copperbell Mines, working in an occasional leve to ding. Consequently, I have about 2 stacks of Iron Ore, for when I move up the ARM/BSM ranks. Higher level gathering means more time in each tier of materials, means more materials.

Funnily enough, I'm not hugely concerned with endgame at the moment (a first for me in an MMO), as I'll be leveling a battle class (LNC -> DRG), it's subs (MRD & PGL), a crafter (probably GSM) & a gatherer (MNR - from GSM of course), and they'll be roughly concurrent. It may take a while ... Smiley: rolleyes

When you first get Observe on a Hand class (Level 13), you get a help tip pop up explaining (quite poorly though) about condition. I missed it in P3, and also wondered why you would use Observe. I twigged around 18, at it was great (once you have a Standard Touch). Do you wait to try and buff condition for a big Standard Touch, or suck it up & take 2 Basic Touches instead, maybe getting lucky with the 2nd one?

Observe is great for poor conditions if you have the extra cp. Whenever I hit excellent and its still far off from being good enough to HQ...I hit observe to get rid of poor and be back up to normal. I don't really find it that useful for other times what with the amount of cp you can have right now.

FYI, you're going to want a lot more than 2 stacks of Iron Ore for armorer alone. And as much HQ Iron as you can possibly get your hands on. It's used from basically level 13-30 with iron ingot/plate/rivet/ring right into steel ingot/plate/rivet/ring. Iron is a precious commodity, much as it should be. Smiley: nod

You should be grabbing a ton of iron ore by leveling up miner anyways. I got 3 stacks and 1 stack of hq ore just getting my miner to 17. Gonna get a ton more trying to lvl it up to 20.

IMO you shouldn't use leves on gatherers if you are also leveling up crafting. All that extra time invested into gaining materials is worth it in exchange for that quick boost of exp. Leves should be used on gc to get seals faster if anything.

Bartel, I feel as though you should change the title of this thread to get more people to discuss crafting in here. I believe we have the beginning of a quality crafting thread going, and considering the complete lack of crafting threads on the forums, I think we should keep running with it. There's some quality info. in here!

Such as this. I had not noticed that each disciple of hand class obtained sharable skills at 15 and ~37 or so. This has opened another dimension of crafting for me (like it wasn't addicting enough in the first place!).

It saddens me to see the lack of attention people are paying to crafting and gathering. Yoshi and his development team did an outstanding job making this portion of the game interesting and rewarding-- something that you don't often see with crafting and gathering in mmo's.

Edit: added a missed thought.

Agreed. I went ahead and changed the title to hopefully gather some more interest.

This site has a easily navigate-able page on all classes with a rundown of all their skills. I found it useful for comparing abilities across classes under all disciplines-- check it out if you're interested!
