Download limitFollow

Hello everyone!

I'm new to the MMORPG genre but I'm a big Final Fantasy fan and really wanna try this game. However, I've got quite a small download limit of just 10GB and just wondered how much of my usage allowance it would take up to play a game like FFXIV on my PS3? Does it constantly download? Does anyone have any idea of the amount it would use?

Cheers!

According to the minimum system requirements for the PS3 version, you need at least 12GB to play ARR. There are patches that occasionally get applied as bugs are fixed and new content is made available.

The initial download itself is 6.5 GB or so (it's compressed).

You might not have enough, yeah. The game is quite large. Though I would say to give it a try to see if you can manage it or not, it depends on what else you do on the Internet.

I would hate to have an Internet with a download/bandwidth limit, I play too many MMOs for that. :c

Hmmm, do you mean 12GB which will be installed onto my PS3's hard drive from the disc? Or a 12GB download coming through the internet?

Cheers!

Found something about the ps3 requirement for you. PS3 requirements within link It shows 12Gb required instead of the 7.7Gb I thought I saw during the brief glimpse while it was on PSN for download title.

What type of ISP do you have? If it's satellite or using cellphone towers you will experience a large amount of delay/lag that may make the game unplayable.

Let's hope its not "Blazing fast 14.4kb" modem speed like it was back in the '90s Smiley: laugh

Haha no thankfully not! I've got an ethernet connection at a speed of about 7Mbps. We got our broadband deal a long time ago and it is need of updating to remove the download limit, which we should either be getting unlimited or boosted up to 40GB per month fairly soon hopefully.

That link you gave says the requirement is 12GB on the hard drive which I presume is an install which the disk contains so wouldn't take any of my download limit up? But once you start playing I presume it must be downloading stuff all the time? Sorry, I'm an MMORPG noob! Are you guys playing on the PC?

I'll be playing on PC, unless friends just want me on PS3 for some reason, then I'd need to get a PS3 copy as well, but yeah, Pros and cons of each are there.

PS3: Just play on console, and your pc is free to check websites for info, also no worrying about if your machine can handle it since its already built to handle the game anyways.

PC: different settings in case you either don't own a ps3 (possible), PC is more suited for gaming than the console (also possible) or you just like being more mobile about where you get your game fix (laptop anyone?). Downside is possibly having to Atl-tabbing to check info then switching back to the game, which puts you at some risk if aggro is around.

If you have a physical copy of the game and can install it directly to your machine, you should be able to play the game. The actual bandwidth that MMOs use is very small, when compared to streaming services like video or audio. The only time you MIGHT run into trouble is when there are big updates, like maybe expansions, but it's rare for them to be super huge.

Yeah I will definitely be playing it on PS3, i'm not sure my PC could cope with it. Overall, for someone who has limited experience on MMORPGs (although I did play this PC game called Tibia if anyone has ever heard of it), do you think I'll find it good? Is there a good community feel to the game etc?

Ah okay thanks, I will be getting a physical copy of the game. I thought the bandwidth would be fairly large so I'm glad you say it isn't!

If this has a community like its predecessor XI, then your LS/FC will pretty much be your family. They will be there when you are struggling through the beginning, when you get that piece of coveted shiny you had your eyes on, your virtual wedding, as well as offline or on other games as well. Heck its my friends from XI that sent me spams shouting they need a Chef back for the group, and I haven't seen them since... several years ago until like 2-3 of us got a PS3 and was buddies on that for co-op games.

With good friends, everything's awesome, with lousy ones... well we all know how that goes down. Anyone remember when there's a huge aggro train running towards the zone past your party because of RMT shenanigans on XI and your whm friend took one for the team, HP'd sucked down the 10% exp loss as well as teleport and/or chocobo fees to get back to raise your group and then you all stayed that extra hour or so to get back their lost EXP? Well, hoping we don't have RMT caused aggro trains, but we still have the close knit kind of community in XIV, that was what made XI so awesome.

Sweet sounds like it does then, guess that's what makes it different to normal games! Although I've got to say I literally have no idea what all the acronyms you just used meant hahaha. If I get this game I'm gonna be a massive noob.

Hey, don't hog all the noobiness yourself! I'm stuck waiting to get the game myself too lol.

Haha okay you can have a bit of the noob sauce. Ah, can't you just buy a hard copy of the game if they're still restricting the download of the game? I think I can still get the PS3 copy from Amazon

Well, I can buy a physical copy, just for now money is tied up for end of the month bills, so once that clears, and no pending bills are looming dangerously nearby, then I could splurge on the noobsauce. Priorities... they sure make gaming life more complicated.
