I installed the game just fine. When I go to launch the game it works fine. However it's the movie that botches things up. It lags behind the narrator, then sometimes my laptop will go to a black screen. Usually says its over heated but I've tried turning down the visuals. Any pointers in the right direction would be awesome. I'm running a windows 7 64 bit.

This sounds like your hardware can't handle the game.

Post the specs of your Processor and Video Card. That will help determine where your hardware is deficient.

The problems you're describing sound like your video card is not powerful enough. Downloading and Installing programs is easy enough, it's when the program gets fired up that your system really gets to work.

Believe my graphics card is intel HD graphics family. Guessing its my video card too. If any one can point me to one that's not hard on the wallet but will play the game.

That would be your CPU's onboard video. It's fine for HD video viewing (I use the onboard video on an i3-3225 for my htpc) but not really suitable for gaming. How much do you want to spend on a video card? We can certainly toss you some good newegg/amazon links.

Yup the intel HD integrated graphics is your problem.

Just for a reference point:

Your GPU:

A 6 generation old budget gaming card:
http://www.videocardbenchmark.net/gpu.php?gpu=GeForce+GTX+260&id=17

What FFXIV recommends you use (gtx 660)
http://www.videocardbenchmark.net/gpu.php?gpu=GeForce+GTX+660&id=2152

The intel HD is a really cheap solution for people who mainly play platformers and single player games on low settings. You might get away with some modern single player games running decent.

MMORPG games are usually extremely taxing on GPU's even if their graphics are not top notch (this game is both) because of all the other players on screen and their skills ect.

Get yourself a new GPU, which will most likely require you to get a new Power Supply Unit to power it (factory built computers come with the BARE minimum PSU)

Its always a good idea to know what GPU you have and where it stands performance wise...it will stop you from buying a game that wont play or will run like crap (granted you read system requirements)

that's right usually laptops weld the card to the frame.

also laptops are horrible for gaming, unless you pay a LOT more than a comparable desktop.

Hmm so I won't be able to change out the graphics card then? Well shoot that kinda blows lol. I figured I'd be able to run this at bare minimum. It plays XI just fine, though I know the two are light years apart in graphics I just figured it'd might be a shot.

Nah, you can't change out graphics on a laptop without replacing... the whole... laptop. And boards and other components are not universally standardized. So yeah, get a PS3 or a gaming system.
