I'm going to be playing this game in my nursing home with a jack in my head so I can play despite chronic arthritis.
You and me both!
In addition to being flat-out fun, this game is incredibly friendly for multiplayer. My wife is playing this with me, and last night we did her first dungeon together. She played on her laptop, while I played on the PS3 (I usually play on my gaming rig in the man cave). Thanks to the duty finder, I was able to mine for iron ores while she updated her client and got logged in. With virtually no waiting, we queued up and were off on the dungeon run. I let the party know it was my first time healing, and that it was my wife's first dungeon, and off we went!
During the run, we each gained a level, and the wife got a couple cool gear pieces for her archer. Then, the game dropped us off again in our respective locations, and I went back to mining for awhile before going to bed.
In the olden days of FFXI, this night would have been:
1) Me logging in and running to the dungeon.
2) Me waiting for 20 minutes
3) Dungeon run
4) I'm now stranded in the middle of nowhere, and I need to spend time/resources getting back to where I was!
So, yeah... this game is VERY social friendly. The community is very talkative and helpful, and finding linkshells and FCs is easy. You can talk in dungeon runs, too... you just can't be afraid to initiate conversation. That's exactly how FFXI used to be, too.
