I imagine it would be the same way players on the computer do it?
PC players Access the spell book by hitting P and dragging w/e they want down to an action bar. Here is a PC KB&M vs a Game Pad (controller)
Notice the 4 action bars in the 1st pic (3 in the middle, one to the right) and the Menu buttons (bottom right in 1st pic). All that is gone in Controller mode. I assume hitting O or Start is how the menu(s) are accessed in controller mode (like all other FF games).
This is really frustrating me... I'd really like my to screen to look like your first picture, but it doesn't seem to be possible. That controller/mouse switch isn't even there in the PS3 menus. AFAIK, I'm stuck with the crossbars. The problem is that none of the keys needed to access the crossbar (L2, R2, the d-pad, etc) aren't given corresponding keys on the keyboard! I don't know why they didn't just leave the option to play the same way as the PC players do...
There *is* a "keybind" menu that lets you make a key the equivalent of a controller button (in other words, "let the 1 key = L2 button", for example), BUT each key can only have one assignment, so if it's already assigned to a different task it will override it's original task. So in order to get this work, I'd have to find at least 11 keys on the keyboard that doesn't already have a task assigned to it (4 d-pad buttons, the 4 shape buttons, L2, R2, and select)... what a pain, and that's assuming I could remember what keys I assigned in the first place.
I guess I have two options:
1) Play using a controller with a keyboard in my lap for chatting and whatnot. Hopefully this doesn't impact my ability to properly communicate, target, etc.
2) Completely remap my keyboard assignments to come up with something that makes sense to me without leaving off any crucial key assignments I might need at some point.
I don't know... any suggestions? Neither choice really seems all that optimal to me but I guess I've got to use one. If there are any PS3 players out there using a keyboard I'd love to hear from you. Thanks!
