And have you reported them in game? I've started reporting everyone I see.

I reported them, shouted their names, and told me LS.

Not sure who else reported them, but I figured if I got their names and locations out that others would stop by and see, probably report as well.

I don't use a token. But I feel a lot safer on the PS3. I enter my password with the control. But maybe I should for the website stuff. hmmm.

While I agree that everyone should be either buying a security token or using the app, and don't feel sorry for those who choose not to use it and then get banned; I do not understand or agree with the "they deserve to be hacked/banned" mentality. Nobody deserves to be hacked. It's a sh*tty situation and a pain the go through, especially after you just dropped your money on the game.

I myself use the phone app on my iPhone, and it works great. The added inconvenience of an extra 30 seconds to open the app and type in a 6 digit password is nothing compared to the inconvenience of losing all of your progress. I discussed this with my free company, but RMTs biggest profit comes off of us, the users, because they get all the time we put in to our characters and turn it into their money in a matter of seconds.

It's bad. My blacklist is filling up and I still see a steady wall of rmt spam scrolling in every city and every single surrounding area. Not to mention spam tells every few minutes. It's so bad that I'm forced to ignore the chime sound and I'm missing legit tells from friends.

This is my concern. My Blacklist had 4 entries within the first hour of playing. Unless something changes, 200 will not be enough. It's so bad, that I don't even bother blisting the /tells to save room for the spammers.

I shouldnt be the only one keeping my account safe. SE should make it harder for them to login from lets say... the other side of the world... when clearly i do not play from that location... atleast not let them login from there without an e-mail confirmation or something.

[quote]Plus i dont use my gaming computer to look for ****.

For most people this would be true but what about the the ones who work on the road and login from different locations ? The security token takes care of this problem simply because you do have to use it to login.

I always get a kick out of people who say this :p I don't work in the IT industry but I do read up on it to educate myself about the dangers on the web. Any site can be compromised if the site security isn't kept up to date. I believe even Allakhazam was hit at one time with a Iframe virus from a third partry advertiser, so **** sites are not the only way to get infected.

While you have the luxury of having a dedicated pc for gaming keep in mind most people do not and use theirs from gaming to online shopping. These people are more likely to get hacked so a security token is a good investment to keep their accounts safe.

Kaolian's post on computer security is a good thing to read for those who want to help themselves lessen the likelyhood of getting hacked. http://ffxiv.zam.com/forum.html?forum=25&mid=130025123118577481

3 minutes later, BAM DONE Account secure.

I see alot of Mining bots outside of Copperbell mines yesterday night, Literally like 12 of them, They are multiplying rapidly, Teleporting everywhere, Kinda aggravating as they have normal names, Im guessing they are hacked accounts from people who tried to use RMT websites.

In a way, I'm kind of glad to see this kind of thing happening.

The way I see it is this:
Player uses RMT website
Player gets hacked by RMT
hacked player gets used by RMT
RMT gets banned by SE (eventually)

The whole web gets taken out in one blow.

Moral is: Don't buy gil.

Chances are, it's the same RMT accounts, deleting and remaking a character with a different name so they can get around people /blacklist'ing them. I've removed the first few RMT from earlier in the week from my BL and I don't get /t from them anymore, or see them in cities.

I am all for SE banning RMT's, hard and swift bans. If your account is hacked, then honestly, you kinda deserved it. There is a reason they offer key fobs and apps for one time passwords. I use the key fob because i find this to be better then the app, your phone could get hacked, the key fob on my key chain can't. And don't tell me "SE should give it to us anyways", no, they shouldn't, SE should not have to compensate for your stupidity, and yes, that's exactly what it is. "i hope your account gets hacked/banned"......nope, sorry, i am not as stupid as you so that will never happen. Geeze people, grow up and take SOME responsibility.

This is one of the worst posts I've ever read on these forums. You're a very arrogant, mean person. I'm sorry you got picked on so much growing up.

Once you get a hacked account, you can make up to 39 other characters to advertise on any server you want, however, and you might not care what they're called.

I had a big long post but somehow I feel it was silly to do.

Just please don't go around blaming people for hacks. There are ways these things happen. But I really hope the gold sellers go down soon. It is alarming how quickly they get around.

If you were a serious FFXI players you were very aware of bots and hacks, they suck but they don't kill a game.

All that really happens is some bot makers get very rich.

Look, I hate to be a Debby Downer here but hacks, bots and RMT are here to stay. RMT have been in every game I've played on day one. Hell, they are often in the beta selling their wares knowing full well that all the character data is going to be deleted come release. Hacks and bots are usually only a couple days into a new game. The basic ones anyway. The more advanced ones come about in a week or two.

This isn't a problem with FFXIV. Its a "problem" with the industry in general. "Why do you have problem in quotation marks?" I'm glad you asked.

While RMT players are annoying, they generally aren't terribly smart. Camping your mobs? Pull them quicker. (In every game I've played with RMT running around, they rarely have a good grasp of game mechanics. You should. Use it to your advantage.) Undercutting your prices? Diversify and sell other things. Or undercut them back. If they don't make enough to justify making items, they'll stop.

Bots? Call a GM. Ok, granted SE has never been terribly good with dealing with them. Hacks? Again call a GM and hope for the best. Ideally SE will get on the ball and enable their GMs to do a better job.

These problems are here to stay. Just like traffic and dubstep. You can get frustrated by them, are you can do what you can do to minimize them.

You think this is arrogant? Apparently you haven't read many post on this site than if you think mine is the worst. Anyone who has read ANY of my previous post knows i'm not some troll on here looking to flame people. My post is valid, little kiddies on the internet need to grow up and take responsibility, if you have a problem with that, fine, but try to show a little maturity rather then insulting my rough childhood that you obviously know nothing about.

Because calling everyone with a compromised account stupid is mature?

For those complaining about the number of spots on your blist, start reporting them and then remove them from your blist. It's super easy to report people, I did a few last night myself.

Let's say that someone's account is stolen because they use the same password on some other website and that site got hacked and all the password stolen. That's a very common way for an account to be compromised. Let's say that they are not a security expert know-it-all. Let's say, for example, that they are someone who don't use computers all that much, and are as such not really aware that using the same password was a security risk.

That person, in your opinion, is stupid? Because you are insulting a lot of people. Just saying.
