Up until reading this thread, I had been under the impression that you won't die from a fall while you're in a town/resting area, but anywhere else is fair game.

This is just based on my own experience. I don't recall having aggro the few times I've died, but then again I wasn't really paying attention to that at the time. If I find any good jumping grounds, I'll be sure to test it out without aggro.

I died once from falling off a fairly high cliff. As far as I recall I didn't have agro but it was a fairly long fall.

They must have changed it then, because I jumped off a cliff around lev. 18 in La Noscea at full health and died during the Open Beta.

I think the people thinking they are dying from falling are actually under a DoT effect when they fall. I saw myself this a few times now. You can also take aggro damage while falling that will kill you.

I've jumped off some hella tall things to test this. I really don't think you can die, even at less than 100% health, as long as you don't take any other damage while falling. I think the formula is actually:

Damage = fall height on a scale form -0% to -99.99% of current health.

Basically any amount of DoT damage, or other damage in the air, will take that last bit of health. It looks instant when you hit the ground.

I died once juming off a tower in Coerthas, when I landed on a ledge, and before my HP was fully healed, I jumped off the next ledge (which was high enough to take off maybe 400 HP), and I splatted thinking... well this sucks... I didn't set my HP...

The mobs in the area were level 38, and I was 50, so I could not have aggro.

Fall damage is percentage based, its supposed to be impossible to die from falling alone. If you die then some other factor was somehow involved.

Has anyone tried doing this with a Chocobo? I heard chicken soup heal all wounds.

I jumped off the bridge area in Central Coerthas on bird and I/we both took a big HP chunk, but we didn't die. I don't think it was a deathable height, though.

Ahha! I found this:

Q: If you are low level and fall from a high location, will you die?
A: Damage will be dealt as a percentage of your HP, but regardless of what height you fall from, at worst your HP will be reduced to 1. Even in the Alpha version, it's was possible to jump from very high locations, so try it out and see for yourself.

However, if listed in your enmity list on the left side of the screen when you jump, you can die from a fall. So it won’t be possible to escape from battle by jumping off a cliff if you get aggro.

If you have any emnity at all, you CAN die, the 1 HP rule will not save you.

I can confirm this. I was running off the ledge with my mount in Oakwood to reach a FATE, at full health and with no prior engagements or damage, when moments after leaping, I took aggro. Needless to say, I went splat when I hit the ground.

You will die if you fall into the pit on the sides at the demon wall in Amdapoor Keep or if you fall off of the sides fighting Titan. Even at full health, even without aggro

Yea I don't think that's fall damage, that's fail damage. +1 damage for that extra bit of fail. :)
