Population loss with the start of subscriptions?Follow

#1 Sep 20 2013 at 8:23 AM Rating: Decent
Will you be subscribing to FFXIV?
I will or have already subscribed!:198 (91.2%)
I'll only sub once they add PVP.:1 (0.5%)
I won't be subscribing at all! :11 (5.1%)
I won't subscribe until they add more content. :7 (3.2%)
Total:217

Curious how many people are going to drop and how many are going to carry on playing in another week.

I've played quite a lot of mmos now and people seem to be get bored around the 3-4 week mark, subs also seem to take a large chunk of players.

For PVP players, here is a PVP video of the upcoming pvp system.

Great idea for a poll!

PvP looks really cool, although I'm not much of a PvP fan. I really love the decision to give separate PvP abilities, so the dev team can work on balancing PvP abilities without negatively impacting the rest of the game. The coliseum for PvP looks really nice... makes me sad they never really utilized the coliseum of Aht Urghan the same way in FFXI. Once the PvP of XIV is balanced, I imagine it could be a nice diversion for a lot of players.

I was wondering this as I've seen a decline in people around popular gatherings spots on my server. I figured its either the 1.0 players getting charged or GTA.

If the population declines, won't those people not be around to answer the poll?

No bsphil, only people who LOVE this game hang out on these forums.

Didn't you learn anything in the aftermath of the 1.x launch?

I assumed the place would be a lot less populated due to the new Grand Theft Auto game coming out as well as free time running out for people. I was a little surprised to see areas swamped with people doing FATE parties and leveling just like before.
I subbed for 90 days a while back and I plan on playing for a long time. I'm having fun on my Conjurer currently and looking forward to leveling several other classes.

The mornings have been quieter, but evenings are still busy. Aleport was packed with a few FATE parties last night. Helps that there isn't 50 AFKers standing around.

Of course there will be at least a small drop-off... that's only natural. In the case of ARR, I'm guessing part of the reason why that drop off is difficult to notice is because of two reasons:

- Recent resumption of digital sales, so as some people leave, they're being replaced.
- Zone maps are smaller, but more packed with things to do at various levels, so there isn't that feeling of isolation that's so common in other MMOs.

Oh i thought this was an actual PvP video but its just some lame "testing" from P4 without actual PvP mechanics in yet. Pretty lol vid. Team of dudes completely relying on the sleep mechanic to win in what clearly isn't a balanced or finished system. At least they sort of got coordinated towards the end. Pretty silly.

Nice to see the battlefield at least. For a non-objective based PvP system, it could be worse. Time to kill is quite long, which i hope doesn't change. I did notice some possible issues with LoSing, ie it didn't seem to function.

also, with regards to population, I had to fight the 1017 boss again last night on Excalibur. They opened it up for new characters and people clearly swarmed it.

I think a few people who had legacy have not paid just yet because of GTA V. They'll finish that game, and then reconsider whether they want to pay money. Then again, for the legacy players for whom the fee is only $10 for multiple characters, they may have gone ahead and just paid up front. I paid for 90 days.

Other non-legacy people will finish GTA V before subs start, and might be jonesin' enough to pay right away. We'll see!

(Considering I was 87 in queue to get into Lamia 45 minutes after maintenance ended, it's obviously not affecting people too much on non-legacy servers. Got into Balmung with no queue, though.)

To be fair, I was also incredibly confused at first when I saw the usage of "synch."

I blame it on needing my morning coffee.

I'm looking forward to playing more, but at the time feel that the content is too linear. I don't want to plow to level cap and then move up the instance ladders which, while certainly fine for launch, doesn't much appeal to me.

Once subsequent patches flesh out (and introduce) some of the other activities -- such as crafting and gathering, and hopefully a support class -- and add some more lateral content, I plan to be there at an unhealthily obsessed level. I'd also like to set some kind of insanely long-term goal (that isn't something as arbitrary as "get everything to fifty") and chip away at it for a year or two.

Here's hoping I have cause to see you chaps (read: argue and be generally snarky with you chaps) for a while to come!

Why the hell has this been sub-defaulted? Of course no poll will be accurate, this is a forum specific to one video-game. It's still interesting. Smiley: oyvey

This is nearly my exact situation. I just set up the subscription today because I hadn't logged in since Monday because of GTA.

Because it's preludes and every single post by him has been along the lines of:

  • It's just a mass of corridors.
  • The maps are too small.
  • It's not going to last.

It's basically Killua's older brother.

I would play another month but with Rune Factory 4 and Pokemon X and Y coming out soon, I think i might be best if I take a one month break. Might give SE time to sort everything out with the servers too. I honestly wonder how many will sub with that many games coming out in the next month? Especially Pokemon.

Although I'm planning on sticking around and running dungeons at endgame (a first for me), I agree and hope that there is more horizontal content. Honestly there's a lot there already within the various "logs" but I'd like to see real NMs, sidegames, player created dungeons (a la Moblin Maze Mongers) and just side quests until the/(an) expansion comes out.

However I do think Yoshi has thought about all of this and I think for the most part a lot of this will be addressed.

I'm still waiting for Ishgard, a THF and NIN class, housing, and whatever else is in store. And if and when the expansion comes I'm hoping for an 8 or 24 man LB quest to continue leveling. It doesn't have to be that hard, but since most people will be at 50 and the DF should be optimized, things like these should be a lot easier logistically than they were in FFXI. And that was more than half the battle.

Viertal hit on the gist of it, but also consider his choice of thread title. It wasn't so much in the context of the poll, but more the assumption that the majority of people will be quitting. And while I'm of the mind forums are never truly indicative of the silent majority, the overwhelming output so far should at least suggest some decent retention for now.
