I''ve subed. will play until I hit current cap and see what is up with current "end game". If I do not like it, ill leap frog with WoW (the just had big patch the other week with new raid). I do wish PvP was there at the start, I didn't like it at all in FFXI, curious how it will be in XIV

All I can say is.. The billing system pretty much WONT allow me to play, so I don't know if there are any others in my shoes, but it's not a stretch of the imagination to think so.

I really HATE PVP, so once they implement that, and rather make it mandatory for gear, i'm out.

I did subscribe already, but i half regret it already. Constant RMT spam, Bots rampant that SE doesnt stop either. Something has to change, or a lot of people are stepping out of the game, i'm sure.

I've been rather lucky on Hyperion, it seems. Bots get squelched and killed rather quickly, so I don't see them popping up more than a few times a day now. I know they're getting caught by SE, because I've been spoken to by a GM a few times while mining for a few hours in the same location (I REALLY wanted silver, that's all!) I'm fairly certain that people are used to muting and ignoring RMT spammers in MMO's anyway, so I don't see more than a handful of annoyed people stepping away because of that, only to go to another MMO with more RMT spam. Hell, the other day I logged into WoW to get green fire for a friend, and I got more RMT spam in the brief time I was in Org setting up macros than I got in Ul'Dah leveling up GSM. I think quitting MMO's in general are the only way to truly kill RMT bots.

Im also out the door if they implement PVP to be Aion-like.

And I thought people would leave after "free trial" was over too, but I was proven wrong, and happy about that.

Pvp gear wont effect pve. Most if not all good gear from pvp will have something called morale. Its pretty much an awsome state that only will only be used in colosseum.

o.O?
How is the billing system stopping you from playing? I remember many options on how to pay.

Tried using the Ultimate Game Card? You can get them just about anywhere and I know they work. A friend of mine plays and he started from 1.0 so he subbed already. Said he didn't have any issues with using these cards. If you do get one select crysta as your payment. The card actually buys crysta and then you apply that to your account. If you need better instructions PM me. I can ask him exactly how to do it for you.

I didn't see an option to pay ahead more then a month... how are people paying for 6 months in advance? That was a main reason why I haven't joined yet. I have never liked month to month billing - at least not for a video game smh...

Thee is a setting in the mog station web site that lets you pay for three or six months. I am on three-month blocks.

No population drop off yet, which is nice! Even with GTA out, I am still getting small (and very quick) login queues.

I don't think the results are any indication of people's feelings towards PvP. It simply means that PvP isn't the only driving factor influencing their sub decision.

With that said, I had the flu for the last few weeks and my trial ran out during that time. However, I just subbed up for 90 days, as I feel much better now and have begun the slow grind up the crafting ladder.

The online FF crowd is a bit different than the average MMO crowd. We were raised on PvE accomplishments, not PvP. No Final Fantasy game has ever prominently featured PvP to the scale of games like WoW or Guild Wars... it's just not really part of the culture.

I'm excited to see how it's implemented into the game, but other things will do far more to make FFXIV successful over time.

Comparing it to how well PvP seems be received and nurtured in other games, however, I'm inclined to strongly believe that PvP isn't a driving interest for the majority in the west. It's tricky for reasons tied to balance, reward, and ease of access. OP FotM classes obviously make things not-fun if you're getting killed constantly. Make rewards too good an people who dislike PvP will feel pressured into participating, and doubly so if such things have no alternative source or counterpart. Access also requires things like good ladders or an outright exclusion of gear or other bonuses to keep people on a level playing field and truly leaving it more a matter of skill than how much time you've played and grinded out superior stats. And given the competitive nature of some and the freedom of anonymity, the trash talking that goes on can also scare off people. So, while there are PvP games out there some like and adore, I can't really say a game has yet to nail PvP in the sense PvE succeeds.

They've been slipping PvP into FF titles on mobile gaming platforms in the past few years. The DS version of FFIV has PvP (Whyt vs Whyt fight). The PSP's FFTactics: The War of the Lions has PvP (Coliseum mode). The Dissidia Final Fantasy series is literally a couple of fighting games which is all about PvP. It might not have started as a thing, but it's becoming a thing.

Me too sometimes up to 19 or so but usually only 2-5. There are always [usually multiple] FATE parties in every popular zone at ever hour.
