Ok, I'm stuck..Follow

Well not literally stuck.. What the whole point of this thread is... that last night I found myself on the last mission of the storyline (last dungeon), my problem is (and I know I was wrong to do this now I look back) but.. I never watched ANY cutscenes I just skipped them all, I have no idea what has gone on.. Just plowed through them all after Doing FATEs from a very low level, Now.. I'm burnt out with the game.. I have no desire to do the final mission or even play the game anymore for that matter, could this be because I just fate zerged all the way?

My question to you guys is.. Do you think it's wise to start a new character from fresh and take it slow and actually watch the cutscenes, keeping fates to a minimum and doing side quests also?

I never really levels crafts either (21 Miner, 23 Goldsmith), I was thinking of doing more crafts on the new character too.

I know ultimately it's my decision but I would like some insight to what you guys would think would be best.. I don't want to stop playing the game.. I'm just bored of my character if you get what I mean? Lol

You can go to an inn and watch all the cut scenes from the main story quest line from 1 - 50 if that is your big concern!
#3 Sep 26 2013 at 3:00 AM Rating: Decent
It's not my main concern, my main concern is that I think I rushed to level 50, what I'm confused about is.. I'm bored in game but I want to play the game.. I think I'm bored because I rushed? If that makes sense?

I would suggest exploring or doing random quest and actually reading the text there is ALOT of emersive quest out there. Also If you havent gotten into crafting / Gathering its ALOT of fun. And if you want you could always mess with other classes, the great thing about having only one character.

Another option is just create another character in a new starting city as every city has its own story line up to about level 20.

For what is worth, reaching the cap is only the beginning.

There is so much stuff to do after you get to 50 that I think that finishing the story and only accounts for 25% to 30% of the content.

If you rushed leveling by doing fates get into each dungeon and try it's mechanics, each of them is quite different and it's interesting to find a way to beat them on your own.

I'm not exactly sure if this fits you but you can look again at your level 50 job and think what kind of improvements are yet to be done with ability rotations and cool-down management (being a min/max freak myself is mostly the only think I can think about... >.> ). Are you playing with keyboard? are you sure your HUD layout is optimal? you can spend a few hours testing different settings and will be, in a sense, like rediscovering the game from another perspective. The same goes for the input method are you using controller or keyboard? have you tried the other one? each has it's advantages and pitfalls.

Do you have a FC? or a Linkshell, why not looking for people that may need a hand with low level content that you don't need anymore? helping others is sometimes as rewarding as getting something for yourself.

But more important than anything else, stop rushing, if you convert your end game on a never ending ToP farm it will get just duller, you have to take time to enjoy your time with the game.

... OP, don't take this personally. I would just like to take this opportunity to communicate this out to anyone else who finds themselves in the same position as you..

An MMO is NOT a race to completion. It is not a game type designed for this kind of gaming mentality. Heck, RPGs in general are just BAD if you reach the end and don't give a lick about anything going on around you. I say this with all due respect, because let's all take a deep breath and have a moment of honesty here...

It's not exactly as if people play Call of Duty for the plot, either. Heck, I'll take this even more meta and say that we don't read Lord of The Rings for hot elf on man sex, either.

Take another deep breath, just because.

I hope I made my point. There was a lot of production money put into the cutscenes. There was a lot of attention put into the environments to be a set-piece for the lore of this game. Even the cities themselves have their own stories and their own characters. In fact, depending on which class you choose, there is also a sub-plot and story playing out all around you that just may involve some of those characters from the main storyline and add even more context to what it is that you are doing.

If you are smashing the X button or Esc through all of this, then you are turning what should be a story-driven game into a mindless grind of "Kill three of this and return it to me for a level 5/10/15/20/etc wrist band with better stats than the last one I gave you for killing 5 of that kind of bunny". That drive to get you ahead will only take you so far. More enemies will be added. More gear will be added. More boss fights will be added. Rinse/repeat. Kill five bunny rabbits will turn into killing 5 Sand Worms. KIlling 5 Sand Worms will turn into killing 5 dragons.

It's going to be the same thing over and over and over and over again. Hell, why pay money at all to do it? You will have the very same exact experience in a free-to-play game. But, I suspect that this is not at all what drew you to this game. I would strongly suggest starting another character. I would even suggest playing a different class up the quest chain to give you a different experience than the one that burned you out. I don't say this often, because I am a firm believer in people playing games their own way and finding joy in their own experience, but here it goes..

You did it wrong.

This story is one of the better FF stories done in a long time. If you don't find enjoyment in that then may I submit you don't find enjoyment in the genre. GTA 5 is out I heard. Go zerg it.

Thank you for this post, I was BLM first time round and yeah I mashed Esc through the cutscenes I guess I did do it wrong, I'm going to take your advice and start fresh on a new server so I don't know anyone, and take it slow and actually watch the cutscenes, I plan not to use any FATES if possible.. I hope the game will be more interesting second time round!

And I have GTA 5, I'm taking that slow and I'm loving it!

Look at this this way, you probably know a HELL of a lot better ways to get your grind on between story missions if you happen to be a level or two below the next story mission. I was halfway expecting you to be posting from the opposite side of the coin, which is that you did so much story, you don't know how to make the next 5 levels to continue on.

Fortunately, there seems to be well enough content in this game where those are few and far between. FFXI, on the other hand, was a stone cold ***** and a half. You'd find yourself five or even ten levels too low to progress and it was back to the endless crab stabbing to get you to where you need to be.

You could also be bored because you don't like the job you leveled. I found summoner very boring.

Mix it up. And ... watch the damn cutscenes! You're playing an FF game and skipped the story, it's like you ordered a sandwich and then pulled off all the meet and the lettuce and tomatoes and then asked why it tastes bad.

I stopped leveling my Monk at 40 once I discovered the new crafting system and started leveling up Gold, Black and Armorsmith. Of course, I had to level my Miner too (which I find oddly therapeutic) for materials. Researching crafting I discovered I should get all the level 15 abilities, so I leveled Culinarian, Alchemist, Weaver and Leatherworker, and now I've realised how useful Steady Hand II can be so I want to zerg Culinarian to 37, so I've been leveling Botanist for mats. Then I stumbled on Supply runs and how much XP and Company Seals you can get so I do those too. Sadly, I may never level Monk again.

I kid, of course, but it goes to show you have diverse the game is if you take time to look around. I also have Marauder, Lancer and Archer at 50 from 1.0, but I've never played their respective jobs - I have those to unlock and learn too.

In short, this game is the long haul, all those people that claim to have nothing to do with one level 50 job must be playing the game with closed eyes.

I found BLM interesting at first.. Then when fates got introduced to me I would just scathe everything because I didn't have enough time to cast spells because mobs would die before it would go off (other than the BAMs (Big *** Monsters)), I think the main reason I went for fates was also because I remember waiting for long periods of times for dungeons because I was a DD, I think next time round I will be a healer or tank.. Something I've never tried before.. Could be an entirely different game for me!

I know there is ALOT of things to do in this game.. But with the level 50 I have now, I feel bored when I log into it, the FC I'm in all push for people to get 50 ASAP for raiding/gearing, that's another reason I got it ASAP but now that I have it, I don't like being max.

I heard fishing is a good DoL and heard its relaxing, and alchemist is a good DoH for shards/profit.

It's fine to use FATES to help level, but don't deliberately seek them out. If one pops up on top of you, play it. If one spawns between you and your next quest goal, participate. They are good at breaking up monotony. Just don't join a FATE party and spam it for two hours straight.

Yeah I'm afraid that's what I did last time, join fate parties and was getting 10 levels a day, and was level 50 in no time, I had a hard time with Garuda because I wasn't very good at my job simply because I fated constantly and that's my fault.

Good luck man, and at-least watch the cut-scenes. This game has an amazing story, and I would hope everyone could watch, and enjoy.

I've been playing since release day, and I'm only lvl 34/26/25/15/11 because I take time, and immerse my-self in the environment.

Go into some of the earlier dungeons, and help out noobs for a while, I find it really satisfying myself.

Walk around the cities, and look for market trends in the market boards, corner the market, and get rich! (wet bomb ash) atm

Join a free company, and chat it up with them, and make friends.

Fishing is an amazing mini game, both intricate,(for gathering), and challenging.(for gathering)

Collect minions, some of them are pretty sweet.

Try out all the roles, tank, dps, and healer.. Maybe you'll like one that surprises you. I didn't think I'd like healing, but it's a lot of fun.

You see I see the mentality of most of the shouts I've seen with FC recruits have been raiding and helping you quickly to level 50, I don't like raiding to be honest so I don't think most FCs are for me :/ on Cerberus at least..
