Thats what they do yes, but lately there has been a sick trend of 10 to 12 of them sitting on top of posts in the mines in the Ceruleum Processing Plant, offing mobs with their relics before any of the people trying to level 42-50 can get any hits. It has been an absolute pain to level gladiator (paladin) because my flash does not give me enough credit to gain exp, I actually have to claim the target or do enough damage to register. I have to rely on my fate party to do it, and most often even eight of us are not fast enough to target and damage when relics are busting the mobs before they even appear on my screen (thanks PS3 Smiley: clap)

I had no idea you could kill stuff in crafting gear and get bond. I was under the impression you had to craft something.

And vice versa, you can craft with battle gear on and level those as well, but the negative effect there is much more pronounced.

Dude... you seriously just made my day :D

Now I have noticed that killing weak stuff (30 or less?) with level 50 crafted gear will not raise the spiritbond on that gear at all. They have to be within range (no idea what that range is). For instance, I thought I would be all badass last night and take my boar skins from my leves and autocraft them to leather once I hit 50, then sell them for profit while I spiritbond my new leatherworker lvl 50 gear. The boar leather is a level 30 something craft. So I crafted two stacks of skins into leather, check my spirit bond, and while everything 49 and under gained spiritbond, the lvl 50 gear sat at 1%. Woot Smiley: glare. So I assume you would need to kill high level stuff to spiritbond high level craft gear. Just FYI

All I ever seem to get from Aetheryte rings are Ice Materia III. It makes me sad.

On that topic, if you spiritbond Lv.1 gear on a Level 50 monster, it jumps around 3 to 4% on each kill. So the reverse is true as well.

Yeah I had planned on doing a little "storming the castrums" lol. Or maybe Kobolds or sahags, something like that.

You can! Basically anything can get spiritbond gain whether it's DoW/DoM/DoH/DoL-based gear. But that's not what we do.

Basically I make this stuff here in quintuplicate, since everyone in my group has a Disciple of War job at level 50:

  • Militia Barbut (ARM)
  • Militia Mitt Gauntlets (ARM)
  • Militia Harness (LTH)
  • Militia Subligar (LTH)
  • Militia Caligae (LTH)
  • Raptorskin Voyager's Belt (LTH)
  • Imperial Operative's Choker (GSM)
  • Imperial Operative's Wristlets (GSM)
  • Militia Earrings (GSM)
  • Aetheryte Ring x2 (GSM)

  • (As an aside you can swap some of the accessories for other accessories if you want to focus on a craft accessory for craft materia, so it's up to you.)

I'm fortunate to have FC mates who gather the shards/crystals/materials for about 80% of this stuff, while I handle the other 20% plus crafting and materia melding. It's time-consuming but ultimately pays off well enough for us.

@Valkayree (whoops, got the wrong name at first!): Sorry to hear about that crap going on in North Thanalan. I mean it's honestly not even worth the time to go and do something like that. Castrum Occidens, Samsa Spawning Grounds, U'Ghamaro Mines, and so on and so forth ... those are all not only superior places to spiritbond due to the mob level and mob density, but also away from people actually trying to do FATEs.

My method has been to craft myself a set of HQ Patrician's and Militia gear and bang out stacks of cobalt ingots. No luck with Tier IVs yet, but I do have a load of Tier IIIs.

This is pretty much the same thing I had planned to do. I'm glad to hear it works for you :)

Do you use aetherite rings or any +bonding gear?

Yes. It's a 2 to 1 synths to spirit bond ratio so it takes 2 stacks of cobalt ingots to completely bond a piece. Since I can complete a synth with one Careful Synthesis II it usually takes me about a bit over an hour to complete bond on a set. Switch to next set, convert, throw ingots on market and repeat Smiley: smile

Are you building quality on those or just progress?
    #36 Nov 14 2013 at 11:49 AM Rating: Excellent
Just progress for speed. Since I can complete in one step instead of how ever many it would take to HQ them it goes faster. Cheap mass production at it's finest Smiley: lol

Edit: I did a group of 10 HQs to see if they helped increase bond. It didn't, but I was only checking my militia gear. Not sure if it would affect normal gear. Also, there is a downside to this method. You will blow through shards like never before, something to think about.

It's not that hard really, just a lot of leg work. I make a majority of my gil by selling 6 items, usually 2 at a time. Whenever I log in I check the boards to see how empty or saturated the market for each item is. I then synth and sell whatever is favorable. By the time those items have sold the market for other items is bare so I switch. It's helped my income stay consistent. The undercutting will make you want to kick a kitten though, so be prepared.

I think maybe after my focus has shifted from levelling everything up, I may focus on this a bit more.

Its risky, and I've been burned more then once, but sometimes the pay off can be worth it considering the minimal amount of effort it takes. Mostly it just takes a lot of patience waiting for stuff to sell, and dealing with trying to undercut everyone else. I know to some its not a lot of gill, but I have around 300k invested in the ah, and if it pays off, i'll be sitting roughly at around 800k.

Basically, I look for people who don't check prices before posting stuff, and post things under the current market value, and just buy them and re-post, even if its something I might only make 5-10k off of, profit is profit.

I typically don't try to control a market, just cause I have been burned pretty hard trying to do that in the past.

Then I place all my hopes in the players that are too lazy or impatient to wait for prices to drop and just buy whatever they want no matter the cost (or players who are filthy rich and just don't care lol".

I am by no means a "pro" at this, but it works enough for me to make some gill so whatever.

From what I've read, quick synth bonds just as fast as a regular synth. That's probably a better method for you.

I would assume that quicksynth would not get your spiritbond up as fast as the manual synth (hence the one step manual synth when you are not concerned with xp), am I correct?

    Tested here:

    http://ffxiv.zam.com/forum.html?forum=152&mid=1381819785256125050&h=50&p=1#16

According to those results, quick vs manual is no difference in spiritbond rate.

I've been doing the SB thing when I could motivate myself to sit down and do like a 100 synths in a session. In general, an ilvl55 set takes about twice as long to bond as level 49 accessories, so I double on those. Doing this as a caster is a pain, though, since fleece is required and still pricy/camped. Been considering leveling ARC/BRD solely to just do leather stuff instead. Or maybe GLD/WAR, as ore isn't bottlenecked so much.

Had about 1.5m last night before I started working on some ilvl 70 jewelry. Total gil over time, though? Hard to say. I can be lazy about money making, though, since the shard aspect can be demoralizing for me.
