Starter Kit Trouble...Please Help!Follow

#1 Sep 23 2004 at 11:38 PM Rating: Decent
Hey everyone,

I just got the EQ2 starter kit...i can't get the character creation tool to work. I am on an alienware area51-m (laptop). I have a 3.06Ghz P4, 1.0G RAM, and ATI Radeon 9000 128MB video card. Here is the problem. When I click on the creation tool, the screen turns black and the game music plays...also, the arrow used in the creation tool appears like the tool is about to work. Then I get the blue screen of death followed by a reboot. I did the system scan online and it says that everything is fine....so I am stumped. Any Tech wizards out there....HELP!!!

Pretty odd. Did you download a new video driver for your video card? ATI Radeon 9000's should work fine but I will double check on that. Try and go to ATI's website and check for any driver updates.

Go to Alienware's web site, go to support on the top-right of the bar. Get the latest drivers for your laptop, then try again. Also, try to install the newest version of DirectX ( www.microsoft.com/directx ).

If that fails, try closing all other programs/unneeded processes and retry. Also, please clarify if this only happens with EQ2 or you have BSOD in other circumstances too. In my experience WinXP BSOD are usually caused by bad RAM.

brocklaster, please post a reply if you found out what the problem is. Anyone else having problems with the starter kit, please post as well, I am very interested to hear about any hardware or software compatability problems, especially before I and other people, buy or upgrade their computers to play Everquest 2. Thank you Yurlen and Euler for your great advice.
