I have a linksys router with 3 computers ( 3 accounts ) hooked up with DSL modem.
Anyway I have been having the probelm of crashing to server select and or login screen almost eveytime I zone and its been an on going probelm for like 4 months now.
Now I upgraded the firmware and for 24 hours or so EQ worked perfectly and I thought I had fixed the problem but then bang right back to where it was before the upgrade.
Ok so I crash and stuff for a week or so then I redo the upgrade ( same upgrade ) and it works ok for awhile and then bang back to this problem again.
Its not the computers or my connection but it seems to be a probelm in the router I guess ? Should I go out and buy a diff brand router ? Or can this be fixed somehow ?
After fighting with 3 computers crashing to login or server screen almost everytime I zone or switch chars I am starting to get slightly peved lol.

sounds like your router is not holding the bios flash. It could be defective. I'd contact linksys tech support about the problem, see if they will send you a new one.

If you have Model BEFSR41, then the problem is this. You need to go into the web based options for your router. Put "192.168.1.1" into your web browser. Then go to the Advanced tab. Then Forwarding tab. Then find the [/b]Port Triggering button[/u] and put in the following:

Incomming Port Range
1024~7000
EQ looks for ports beyond 1023. By doing the above your opening those ports for EQ to view. If you don't open them, then you go LD after 20 min or you have loading issues, logging issues, etc. Originally the firmware that came with the router was acctually broken. I didn't stop someone outside the network from using those higher ports so we didn't know there was a prob. Then the updated firmware fixed the issue and therefore created our problem. This solved my prob on this router. I beleive that all routers work basically the same way.
Don't anybody flame me because I'm not an IT expert. I'm just fixing the immediate issue for this guy. Now supposedly this also opens you up for attacks from outside your network. If someone has a better fix please let me know. I personnaly have had my router this way for 2 years and never been attacked.

Always happy to have people offer help and advice in the forum here. there are the occasional technical disagreements in here, but rarely any flames so far.
The port range is probably very close to the problem. I would definitely need to do further research on the topic, however, EQ will dyanmically try to reassign a new port sometimes upon zoning. Some PPPoE ISPs also will dynamically change the IP address via DHCP leases every 60-120 min. Between the two this sometimes causes a conflict, where the firewall software/hardware may think of this as a trojan horse attack and terminate the connection. When you get booted to the main screen basically your connection with SOE is getting terminated. Norton Internet Security (a software based firewall) is infamous for doing this.
Check with the SOE tech forums and also the Cisco/Linksys forums. Some firewalls not only have an address translation table, but code also designed to dynamically look for possible attacks. This may need to be deactived for the SOE port ranges (if it is possible to turn this off). Just a couple of ideas thrown off the cuff....
