The stock intel CPU cooler was/is pretty mediocre from what I read and the case will be standing against a wall which blocks half the intake at the front so I figured better too much cooling than not enough.
And yeah, sucks about the modular PSU but I'll live, not waiting 10+ days for that (with emphasis on the +, last time I ordered from them with that there I changed my order after 6 weeks cause they still didn't have it).

They're not horrible, but that one is a better one. You do need 3 inches of clearance around the entirety of the computer, and a minimum of 6 inches in the back for safe air cooling operations. If you have concerns along those lines you definitely want more top end fans.

Yeah that works on all sides but the side behind the motherboard because of limited space, hence extra fan for more airflow into the PC.
PC works, next time will definitely include a modular PSU though, cable management sucks. You know, if I remember that in 5+ years or so.
Also, worst mishap during the build was not connecting the DVD drive well enough so while the PC saw the drive it didn't read the disc. Took me a good 45 minutes to get that figured out. Going from a 2007 budget build upgraded with pennies rather than an actual budget to a fairly high end current PC is.. well... daaaaaamn. The only downsides is that it's slightly louder than my old PC (which had only a stock CPU cooler and the PSU fan) and the case is pretty ******* huge, neither of which I care about at all.

I think that given the positioning of the fans and psu on my current case, some components aren't getting any air at all. Would I, with my mini atx motherboard, benefit from having a similarly sized £15 case? Would it run cooler?
Is it a negligible upgrade akin to changing the shape of a chocolate bar, or is it worth it?

A £15 case is what $30-$45 us dollars? A case that inexpensive probably isn't worth your time and won't be an upgrade unless you manage to get a stunning deal on a used case or a model closeout. What I usually recommend for an entry level case with good cooling that can be found inexpensively is a Cooler Master CM-690 III
The HAF series will move more air, but are generally more expensive. Thermaltake cases are also quite good but tend to be a bit more expensive for the same quality, and tend to be a bit flashier than I tend to personally prefer. If you can find one, the holy grail of cases remains the Cooler Master ATCS 840. They are expensive, there never were that many of them to begin with, and they aren't making any more because of the price point, but you won't find a better case. Period.

£15 is more like $25, or $20 in PC parts, Europe gets ripped off on parts bigtime.

Depending on the setup and case, you could just add more fans to improve air flow. Or go with a CPU heatsink/cooler like the always popular Cooler Master 212 Evo.
Of course, you should probably first install/use a temperature monitor to see if heat is even an issue.
