Fairy Tail - Traditional hero stomped by new villains of the arc, after hero stomping cannon fodder to show power increase. More Levi x Gajeel shenanigans.
Bleach - Traditional cannon fodder being easily fodded.
One Piece - Traditional set up for main characters to need to escape even though they saved people.

Renew Your Vows - Spider-Loli and the Power Pack. This book might have just hit my all time favorite list. Which is a shame, since knowing Slott's track record means the pacing is about to go to hell and we're going to be left with an unsatisfactory conclusion. Probably no more Spider-Loli and Power Pack. Smiley: frown
Ghost Racers - Ghost Rider riding a shark. Smiley: thumbsup
All New Section 8 - After all the recent developments, I'm amazed the internet hasn't imploded over Bueno Excellante.

Still got more to read.

Edit: Apparently I can't tell the difference between canon and cannon anymore.

Not sure if it's a setup to another Dog vs Peacock fight, or if it just means angry, sweaty, Navy sex.

I'd like to think the arc is over and it'll end like Alabasta when Garp was chasing the crew. There's a ton of similarities between the two already. We've been on Namek Dressrosa long enough. Still kind of hoping Bartalemew joins up. I like his antics.

Walking Dead - The last two issues have been pretty amazing. I wasn't too fond of the All Out War arc, but this? This is nice. Also neat Kirkman trimmed the cast. This I'd like to see happen in the tv show.
Bloodstrike - It's the 90s reincarnated. Cable & Deadpool (but not) 90s, in fact.

Edit: Oh, if anyone is interested, Legend of Korra comic was announced at SDCC.

Second group of new After Secret Wars books.

What used to be regular is now early. Smiley: um

Bleach: A sniper acting like a sniper. Amazing.
One Piece: Convenient amnesia is convenient. "Ace said the same thing." Yeah, then he died, Zoro.
Fairy Tail: Makarov looks old with a beard. Interesting cliffhanger reveal. Want to know how this is going to play out.

Justice League 42: I don't usually read it. I won't be reading it afterwards either. Read a rumor they were going to reveal Joker's real identity and it piqued my interest just enough to check out the book. They made the "BatGod" meme canon. He's literally a god. Not even kidding.

Batman took over for Metron? Is he now going to camp on Darkseid's lawn every third Tuesday on 3AM when the sprinklers are running?

Well, I'm sure I'm missing something since I only read the single issue, but it's more that the Justice League stole the seat and Batman won the game of Musical Chairs. Then he proceeded to talk about his dead parents and Joker. I also get that reference.

Hawkeye - Hory clap it's over, and damn them for shooting Pizza Dog. Smiley: motz Not a bad run overall, but those delays were something.
Captain Britian - Judge Dredd Boss Punisher and Thor Shulkie with a judge's gavel were neat concepts. Turning Pepper Pots into an old vaguely Asian dude not so much.
Ant Man Annual - Pretty weak legacy transfer. There just happened to be an AI expert just hanging around. Falcon and Robin are the only ones I can really think of that have gotten this cliche moderately well written. Probably gonna be around just long enough to separate Pym and Ultron and then go the way of Bill Foster.
Guardians of Knowhere - Hey, Mantis finally shows up. If only she'd stick around. And get rid of Kitty Pryde. Smiley: motz

Both Fairy Tail Mavis and Gray ended this week with the expected results. On more surprising news D-Grayman is serialized again, so expect the manga to end sometime before 2050.

I'm saddened Mavis is done and hopeful we get another cuteventure. Maybe building up the guild instead of the vague timeline. Looks like a light weak, and even then I managed to fall behind somehow. Guess all the activity here distracted me. Smiley: um

Bleach: EVERY. FREAKIN'. ARC. Someone loses a limb. Kenpachi has two modes: Amazing steamroller or absofreakin'lutely useless.

Speaking of, Takamura fights in Hajime no Ippo have become what I've been looking forward to for a while now for the same reason, minus the being useless. He hasn't managed to do that yet.

Fairy Tail - Sand vs Fire, Ice, Wind, and Cosplay.

Bleach - Well, if there was a right hand there was going to be a left one as well, I guess. This series and it's arms, I swear ...
One Piece - Oh yeah, we had other characters. Also Kaitou is huge.

NarHina's Crotch Fruit: If the movies and manga are done like the "Springtime of Youth" series I'll read it.

Frank Miller is looking well rested there.

Fairy Tail - Was wondering about Laxus. Apparently he become a Thermonuclear Dragon Slayer during this time jump. Also more mature looking, somehow.

Also looks like a new spin off, this time with Sabretooth.

One Piece - After victory celebration slash recovery is just about over, so we're down to the beginning of the next arc. Last chance to lock in your bets on the next crew member. I'm still wagering on Crazy Fanboy Bart, but there are odds on Springy who's name escapes me at this very moment and no one until the next arc.
Bleach - Captain Crazy finger wrestles. Really taking the dismembered arm cliche to the next level.

I hereby necro this thread to discuss the all important Fairy Tail Fleet of Ships, one of which has set sail. Others are clearly in final boarding calls.

Fairy Tail 453: Fandom has concluded that Gajeel and Levy spent the night together based on the fact that the blanket had the same metal studded pattern in both their panels. (Some innocent cinnamon buns on Tumblr are insisting they just have matching sheets. Riiiiight.)

The others are clearly gearing up for eventual resolution: Gray has told Juvia he'll give her an answer after the war (which means one of them is at risk of death now, thanks), Natsu and Happy say they have important things to do (and invite Lucy to play strip poker in the meantime....), and even Erza is expecting to see Jelall.

I think this chapter was a big fat "have some ship because it's going to be another 100+ chapter battle arc" with oodles of fluff.

Still, if anyone had a monetary bet on Gajeel and Levy becoming the first to be full canon, now is the time to collect.
Necro Warning: This post occurred more than thirty days after the prior, and may be a necropost.

I think Natsu and Lucy will remain platonic, and Erza x Jelall and Gajeel x Levy are about as close to a 1:1 bet as you can get and still call it betting. I didn't notice the blanket design, so that's a nice catch. Whether it's a true link or not is probably never to be seen, but it is still on the cute side.

Assassination Classroom is slowly coming to an end and it's been pretty enjoyable. Bleach still sucks. 7 Deadly Sins is still so painfully generic that you could probably mistake it for any other shounen and not be too far from wrong. Magi, and the Sinbad spinoff, are still pretty much the R-Rated equivalent which is a nice touch from all the other books. People getting chopped up and it meaning something and the body horror can get a little squimish which is a nice touch. And One Piece is still One Piece. Little disappointed Barthalomew hasn't been plugged into the core crew, though the whole fleet thing was pretty much a given. I think that's everything Eastern on my read list.

Friend of mine finally finished reading Naruto. She says "The main characters in Naruto got what they wanted. Naruto became Hokage, Sakura got anal from Sasuke, and Sasuke got his face pushed into a pillow to cry while someone stronger than him fucked his ass."

Ahahaha. AHAHAHA.

Accurate.

I read a serious academic article on fans disagreeing with the author over canon. The paper mostly touches on the Harry Potter fandom, but could also quite clearly apply to Naruto as well.

"Canon is WRONG and needs to go sit in the corner and think about what it's done."

Fairy Tail 465: 464 chapters of foreshadowing and we finally got a ******* explanation of everything.

To sum it up:
Natsu is END, Zeref is his brother, all the dragon slayers are from 400 years ago, Zeref used the Eclipse gate to send them to the future, Layla (Lucy's mother) opened the gate in the present (presumably at the cost of her life), the day the dragons "disappeared" is the day that the dragon slayers were dropped in the present, and Happy prevented Natsu from going suicidal to take out Zeref.

Didn't really see the Fairy Tail twist coming since it was painfully convoluted. I hate time travel. Not the 'Natsu is End' twist, since that was mentioned pretty much directly a few chapters back. or the Deadly Sins since that just came out of left field. There's a Fairy Tail featuring Gajeel and probably Levy that should be interesting, maybe. Something happened to Sanji, so waiting on that reveal. I'm guessing missing leg. Bleach is ... Bleach. Something about a giant flamingo god. Marvel's soft reboot is a mess since they keep pushing back the finale of their previous event, which has been pretty much spoiled anyway. Just waiting on the new Deadpool/Spider-Man book written by Kelly, which should be great.

Bleach, Dec 10: "The Miracle" Gerard "Your Resistance Only Makes Me Harder Larger" Valkyrie.

American Comic Books Going On:

So, in Squadron Supreme, Earth 616 post Secret Wars Namor finally got what was coming to him. Black Panther is gonna be so jealous.

Speaking of Black Panther, The Ultimates has been ******* awesome. So has Sunspot's team of Avengers, but while I really want to like a team of Avengers with Deadpool on it I'm not feeling it so far. Maybe because this seems to be about the most poorly written Deadpool and Rogue I've been exposed to in awhile.

Ultimate End was probably the best Ultimate book besides USM since the first couple volumes of The Ultimates. But I grew up on Mark Bagley drawing ASM, then reinventing him in USM (before Spidey was reinvented AGAIN within that) - point being if Bagley is drawing Spider-Man I will buy it.

Post Secret Wars books have been good for the most part, but it would be nice for the ACTUAL Secret Wars to be over by now...

I think what the Ultimates did with Galactus is either going to bite them in the ass or it's going to really chap mine. The last time Galactus was removed from his role as World Eater a bigger evil was spawned. * Took me two hours to remember Abraxas' name. And in that case Galactus died, but I think my point still stands. At least Silk is still a nice read, even if there's a new artist after one issue. Smiley: motz Skottie Young's I Hate Fairyland is an amusing mix of Ren & Stimpy and Johnny the Homicidal Maniac, which is fun. Read Huck, which is basically Mark Millar asking "What if Superman was a really, really nice guy?" Secret Wars should be done by the end of January ... unless there's another delay. At this point I think we'll find out what happened during the time jump than we will the end of SW. Who is the artist on Mighty Thor and why are they drawing pubes on Loki's face?

Bleach, Ichigo is downed by a tummy-ache. One Piece introduces what I think is the first Billion Beri Bounty, though it's been so long ... and that's really about it. Brutal chap, but not much story advancement.

I just really enjoy Black Panther "making up" for his time in the Illuminati by being on a completely transparent cosmic level Avengers team and "fixing" Galactus by the 2nd issue. What CAN'T they do?

Quote:

They seem to be attempting to make post Secret Wars Loki resemble Tom Hiddleston more. And NOTHING conveys evil on a comic book page more than a stubbly goetee. I actually caught up on the "new" Thor recently and am still enjoying the post Secret Wars version of the Lady God of Thunder.

As for Bleach, at least Yoruichi is back to being awesome. This was way more entertaining than like, the last 12 issues.

QFT! Smiley: nod

Also Assassination Classroom only has 5 chapters left, ending on the week of 3/25. There is a Dragon Quest parody spin off called Assassination Classroom Q, where it's more of the same. Still an entertaining read though.

The next two or three chapters will probably be a "greatest hits" clip show of all the kids during the role call. It was an entertaining little story while it lasted at least, and isn't overstaying it's welcome.
