I think the high level look at these was published a few months ago and these are inline with those forecasts, so nothing really new to see here. I find it interesting that they are going to increase their marketing, yet they fired a bunch of people in Marketing...

I'm in advertising, and the highest expenditure, by far, in regards to marketing is media placement.

A marketing department is often a bloated department, anyway. I imagine this could mean we see a rather large influx of media spots from them (television, online, video ads) in the next couple of months.

Good to know, I'm not very experienced in advertising/marketing, so thanks for the heads up! Smiley: thumbsup

I would love to see more TV advertisements... I think SE with their cutting edge graphics and flair for the dramatic and elegant CG scene, always makes for good publicity.

If I were to make the commercial it would be something like this:

I like the sudden sharp contrast between tranquility which turns into struggle... this is nicely set off by the music score right around 47 seconds into the opening movie. I've seen a few FF commercials and unfortunately they're either JPop or some lame background voice talking like the game is a movie (which SE actually might believe is what we want, a movie rather than a game given their recent entries.)

I just think a commercial could do very well, if done correctly.

It should quickly show that there is serious drama, bad *** characters, and excellent gameplay all within a 30 second spot... easier said than done, sure... but don't ad agencies make millions of dollars to figure out how to accomplish things like that?

I think one thing everyone can agree on is that Square-Enix's marketing has always been.....slack to say the least. Up until recently they've relied on the "name brands" to "speak for themselves" divulging only the smallest morsels of information at major events like E3, and TGS, etc. I think it would be very beneficial to get out of this mindset and start advertising more. Look at what Yoshi is doing with FFXIV 2.0. Whether we feel like its a "flood" of information or not doesn't really change the fact that this is much more marketing than we've seen for damn near any other installment of the franchise.

I think they fired most of their marketing department because they were doing such a terrible job.

Seriously, I'm surprised to see that they were spending that much given how little exposure they actually seem to get. And their social media presence has been a pretty pathetic showing, Yoshi-P exempted. (Which is basically free! When you spend that much and don't take advantage of free marketing, someone is doinitrong).

So incredibly and unequivocally true. Any business that isn't abusing the free aspect of social media doesn't understand how marketing in the past five years works. It is the ultimate resource for spreading your message, be it B2B or B2C.
