Service Fees
Membership Tier Monthly Price Max Characters per Server Max Characters Subscription Length
Standard $12.99 8 40 180 day
$13.99 8 40 90 day
$14.99 8 40 30 day
Entry $12.99 1 8 30 day

http://na.finalfantasyxiv.com/product/index.html

ok Entry fee is 12.99 for 1 character per server 8 characters max an lasts 30 days

then theres standard which is 12.99 a mo nth (the same and the entry fee) for 8 characters per server and 40 characters max that last 180 days.

So heres the confusion... the standard and entry fee are the same price but the standard version gives more for the SAME price... soo why would ANYONE choose Entry over standard? that just sounds dumb so Im guessing i MUST be missing something.. or why would anyone pay 14.99 for 30 days when they could pay 12.99 for 180 days? So i MUST be missing something (and no it doesnt say legacy there) so someone please feel free to point out what I missing

I don't really know, that is a bit odd. I thought standard and entry were determined by whether you previously owned the game or not...but the pricing as you pointed out seems to be the same regardless.

From what I understand, the 14.99 version is so that you get the same stuff legacy gets.

For example, "Legacy" at 9.99 a month gets a total of 40 characters, with a cap of 8 characters per world.
"Entry" at 12.99 a month will get you a total of 8 characters, but it is limited to 1 per world.
"Standard" at 14.99 a month will be the same a Legacy, 40 characters, with a cap of 8 per world; so this would be for people who are not legacy, but want the same as they have for 5 bucks more a month.

With the standard @ $12.99 you're getting a discount for paying for 180 days upfront. Most MMO's do this nowadays. Longer sub. plans net you a discount.

but how do you explain teh Standard for 12.99 with 40 characters at 8 per world thats lasts 6 m,onths (instead of 30 days)

why woudl i choose 14.99 for 1 m ontsh when I can get teh SAME thing 14.99 is giving me for 12.99 and itll last 6 months instead of 1?

That's the issue, you aren't getting the 14.99 service for 12.99.

The list you provided says MONTLY PRICE, not total price. So, 180 days ~6 month. The actual amount of $$ your handing over is 6x12.99 ~$78

So, you can pay for 6 months upfront for ~78$ (ie 13/month) and get the max characters / server
PROVIDED THAT YOU COMMIT TO 6 MONTH AT A TIME

Or 15/month (6 month total of: $90) to get the same max character/server
ALLOWING YOU TO COMMIT 1 MONTH AT A TIME

The details are all in the term 'monthly pricing' that's not referring to the total cost.

OO ok THAT makes sense now so either i can pay 78 bucks upfront for 6 months or a I can pay 15 bucks a month. ok NOW it makes sense. Thanks

Is there a way to purchase additional character spaces per server with the entry payment?

Doesn't look like it. But seriously... it's 3 bucks per month for 7 more characters per server.

The extra storage alone probably justifies it.

I kind of don't see the point of having extra characters for storage if we're going to have retainers, anyway.

Odds are that no matter how well retainers add inventory space for you, they will not be a limitless source of it.

So in the case of the 3 characters on one account, Is that only 1 subscription a month or 3? I'm sure I already know the answer but the language kinda throws me off.

Edit: I assume it is a subscription per registration code yes?

It probably is, but that wording is weird.

The quoted text above there makes it seem like you just need to buy another copy of the game, but don't need to have a separate subscription. Which would be different from how multi-boxing works in every other game on the planet.

I have a quick question also:
Quote:
Will I be able to play with more than one character at the same time?

Yes, but this depends on your choice of platform.
If you wish to have multiple characters available to play with simultaneously, please refer to the explanations below and ensure you have a copy of the game and a registration code for each character you wish to use.

â–  Windows only: To use 3 characters simultaneously, you need:
- A Square Enix account
- A copy of the Windows version
- 2 registration codes; either received with the game or acquired from the "FINAL FANTASY XIV Service Center"
*You can register up to 8 registration codes per Square Enix account.
*The "FINAL FANTASY XIV Service Center" website will be available after the game is launched. Please note this website can only be accessed if you have purchased FINAL FANTASY XIV and created a service account.

â–  Windows + PlayStation 3: To use a character from each version simultaneously, you need:
- A Square Enix account
- A copy of the Windows version
- A copy of the PlayStation 3 version
*You can register up to 8 registration codes per Square Enix account.
*Please create separate service accounts for the Windows version and the PlayStation 3 version of FINAL FANTASY XIV. You will not be able to play at the same time if you register the codes under the same service account.

â– PlayStation 3 only: Playing with 3 characters simultaneously:
Unfortunately,it's not possible to use multiple characters on this platform.

So in the case of the 3 characters on one account, Is that only 1 subscription a month or 3? I'm sure I already know the answer but the language kinda throws me off.

Edit: I assume it is a subscription per registration code yes?
