Signed, Unsealed, Yet to be Delivered...Not Yours
May 24, 2013

Hello all!
Fernehalwes here.

I know a lot of you guys have already seen the new Japanese box art (on sale August 27th, pre-order yours today), but thought you might be interested in how else it is being used. First, I found this massive tapestry on display in one of the dev team meeting areas:
Screenshot
Rumor has it that all of the gear shown here is actually in the game! Which would mean that bookish beauty in the mortar board on the far right is...!!!

Ahem! I also saw these sweet signed posters drying on the desk outside the director's booth:
Screenshot

Now tell me those wouldn't look good in any steakhouse, rumpus room, or dental clinic waiting area.

I would have signed them as well, but they ran out of room and it was either me or Art Director Akihiko Yoshida. I let the poor guy have it....this time. ;)

Two classes with a book? I mean I guess more classes/jobs is always nice, but out of all the classes/jobs they could have picked... ugh. If they are a healer I really hope they are very differentt from WHM.

EDIT: I am going to have to edit this because I sounded so negative over something that is actually very cool lol... a new class/job would be freaking awesome and I really hope they have a surprise like this waiting for us even if it is Scholar.

They REALLY wanted to use the fancy awesome book auto-attack animation they made and bragged about.

5 DoW
3 DoM

I think another caster would be OK. I do agree that there should be more Melee than Magic though.

No, its a confusing call for sure, adding scholar, but hopefully they give them an appropriate role, like buffing healer? That would be awesome if they made scholar a buff/debuff/heal hyrbid. Would definitely fill a niche.

I would have prefered RDM or BLU. But we also have to keep in mind if FFXI is anything of an example we will have more jobs than useable in a few years.

Scholar is a class I'll most likely never get around to playing but it's good to see they're committed to building up the class roster.

I think the Potter generation really likes them. My wife is a few years younger than I am and grew up reading those books. She thought the scholar class was cool because they looked like Hogwarts students. I could get in to that I guess. Who doesn't love themselves a little (grown up version, haha) Hermoine?

It's good to see people are keeping an open mind about scholar, considering we know exactly nothing about its incarnation in XIV.

I love mage jobs! The more the merrier.

But now that we have reached our quota, let's hope they start working on those Disciples of Stealth next.

Is this just something you would like to see? I can only think of thf and nin, maybe samurai who would be in this class. Especially since pugilist and monk are already in DoW. That being said I'd love for at the very least ninja to be implemented.

Every class so far has held true to its original concept. It's not unreasonable to think Scholar will play similar to its past incarnations.

I like their commitment to evening out mage vs melee jobs, at least for now. Itll help not maje a few jobs so necessary that they are given political considerations in guild goings on abd such.

Meleers always tend to be "the masses." Love em.

Outside of having more classes, no reason to have a scholar, or redmage, you can already cast black and white magic at the same time so......

So here's a question... is Scholar the job? You'd get it from putting like Arcanist and Thaumaturge together or something, right? Maybe it will be more of a DoT, buff/debuff job or something?

Or, is Scholar the class, and you'd put it together with something to get to new jobs?

If you're a Thaumaturge casting gimped Conjurer magic or vice-versa, sure. They could go down FFXI's route of being a mage with identity problems.

Or they could go down FF3's route of being able to scan and understand the enemy. How much health it has, what is it weak against, have abilities that push up the limit break bar? Who knows.
