In a complex situation regarding the pre-order...Follow

#1 Jun 03 2013 at 9:37 AM Rating: Decent
I was hoping someone here could answer my questions. My situation is as follows -

I was given a buddy pass for FFXIV 1.0 Standard Edition back in the day.
I did not pay for a subscription, so I do not qualify for legacy status.
The existing FFXIV 1.0 Standard Edition service account is attached to my main Square Enix account management identy.
I played exclusively on the PC as I do not own a ps3.

A few days ago, I pre-ordered the Ps3 Collectors Edition from Amazon.com. I already received my early acess code from Amazon.com.
My plan originally was to pre-order the Ps3 Collectors Edition from Amazon. Then when early access launched, either use the early acess code I was provided or my existing FFXIV 1.0 Standard Edition account to download the PC version of the game. Then apply the Collectors Edition codes to my existing account from the Ps3 Collectors Edition to upgrade my account.

However, from what I've read in the forums, I'm in a bit of a pickle because I have an existing FFXIV 1.0 standard edition account and the physical Collectors Edition codes cannot be used to upgrade an existing FFXIV account, unless I order the Digital Upgrade to collectors edition.

My questions are -
Can I download the PC client using the early access code Amazon provided me? Even though I pre-ordered the Ps3 CE?
I realize I could pre-order the PC CE from Square Enix, but I prefer to do my business with Amazon.com in this case and they only offer the Ps3 CE pre-order.
Will I need to create a new Square Enix account to apply the C.E codes? Or can I delete the exiting FFXIV account first?

I was planning on starting over, so loosing my existing character is not a concern. However, I would like to avoid having to buy a Digital Upgrade to play on the PC if I already pre-ordered the Ps3 Collectors Edition.

I read the answers at http://forum.square-enix.com/ffxiv/threads/61990-FINAL-FANTASY-XIV-A-Realm-Reborn-Purchase-Questions?p=996799#post996799 and I believe that did answer my questions. It's a lot to take in so I'll have to look over it again later.

Right now though it looks like I'm in good shape with my decision.

Thanks!

You should be OK with the PS3 CE. Just can't add another PC code to your account.

First thing I wanted to mention was that since you already have a working copy of FFXIV, you did not need to purchase anything in order to play ARR after launch. The client is available for free to anybody with a SE account with a registered 1.0 code CE, regular, or buddy pass. They all get you ARR for free on the pc.

To answer your questions, I've added numbers next to the lines in which they were found.

1. You may download the PC client since you already own version 1.0 (from your buddy pass). Now that you've pre-ordered the Ps3 CE, you'll get the early access code(which you have), and also a CE code along with the physical copy of the ps3 game. When SE opens up access to our SE accounts again, you can then register your early access code and your CE code(when it comes) to your existing account. Since you've not mentioned having multipe people on the same SE account, I'm assuming it's just you and you can register both codes to what you have and you'll be able to play the game on pc and ps3. You'll also receive all in-game items giving to those who pre-order ARR along with the CE items given for the ARR game AND any in game items you received with your buddy pass.

2. I'm assuming you can delete your current ffxiv SE account, but I would not suggest it as you would also lose your pc registration code. I suggest you keep the one you have and then register both your early access code and your CE registration code to the account you have your buddy pass on. You will then be able to play on the ps3 (if you buy one) and also your pc and have all the perks associated with having a CE.

Let me know if you have any questions.

On further reading of the thread - I seem to have run into one snag.

The pre-order code from the Ps3 version, needs to be entered via the Playstation Store. You need a Ps3 to do so. I don't have a Ps3 =/

Otherwise, I'll be able to apply the Ps3 CE code to my existing Square Enix account. It doesn't look like I need a Ps3 for this. That will give me the CE items on my existing PC FFXIV account. On that note, it looks that you need to buy a Ps3 AND PC copy of the game and apply the codes to your account to be able to play from the Ps3 or PC. :( I'm saddened that SE has dropped the ability to just buy access to an "account" which let you play the game on all platforms like FFXI.

I think Square needs to make this easier. Not everyone who had an existing FFXIV account and pre-ordered the PC version for the pre-order bonus items or PC CE for the physical loot and CE bonus items follows ZAM or the official forums. They wont know they wont be able to apply the code to their existing account. They may end up finding out the hard way.
