Blm with smn/arcn abilities?Follow

I used to play FFXI pretty extensivly back in the day'z and while I loved playing the game (most of the time anyway) I always wanted BLM/SMN to be a valid class combo but of course as we all know it was trash. I've been looking at the job system for some months now and while I still don't fully understand it completely, I greatly wish something like this could happen. I also wanted to be a BLM nuking the crap out of stuff with a companion doing a bit of dps/buff/debuff. Do you guys think that it will be possible to do when the game is launched

No one can answer this since we have no idea how the job will be played. We have no information on skills/spells/pets until beta 3 starts (unless smn isn't in beta 3, in which case well have to wait even longer).

SMN sub in XI wasn't completely trash as it was used on WHM a lot for the auto refresh, but WHM's were able to heal themselves which was why they were able to use it. On BLM not being able to heal yourself puts you at a huge dissadvantage because now your only good for damage and don't have any utility for helping out with raises/cures if needed. Not to mention you had most of the spells to remove debuffs which was a huge plus. SMN sub may have been used if people had access to the skills that made SMN actually good. (they might have now though since level cap is 99, but i havn't played since they raised it beyond 75 so i have no info on that)

I only played 1.0 for a month so I'm not familiar with the jobs patch, but my understanding is that you can't use abilities from other jobs or classes while playing a job. A FFXIV veteran should be better able to explain it.

As was mentioned earlier they haven't released much info for Summoner yet and it won't be in the beta at all, but is supposed to be ready at launch.

From the Loadstone..."When playing as a job, you will have access to both the actions of the base class as well as those of the job in question. You will also be able equip certain actions belonging to other classes. Job-specific actions are acquired by completing job quests.
Besides actions belonging to the base class, jobs also have access to actions from certain other classes. Below is a list indicating which class-specific actions are available to each job.

Paladin >>Marauder and Conjurer ~~~~ Bard >>Conjurer and Thaumaturge
Monk >>Lancer and Archer ~~~~ White Mage >>Gladiator and Pugilist
Warrior >>Gladiator and Pugilist ~~~~ Black Mage >>Pugilist and Archer
Dragoon >>Pugilist and Archer "

So basically there's not enough information available yet to fully answer.Depends on what classes it gets to draw other abilities from, which we don't know yet. It might be a good combo , but my guess is it probably end up being a mediocre pet job.If it ends up being "OP" then it'll get nerfed real quick. I'm anxiously awaiting more info on SMN myself ...hopefully E3 will have some news on it.

A Thaumaturge might, but speaking 1.0, a Black Mage can only cross class Pugilist and Archer abilities.

in 1.0 Jobs could not use other Jobs abilities

IE when you went from THM - > BLM you got 5 extra abilities (at level 50) which were blm exclusive

So if anything a BLM might be able to use ACN abilities, and even some class abilities were class specific. Meaning Summon Carbuncle could very well be ACN/SMN onry.
