For all the English speakers living in Japan, what JP server will people be getting on?

Is there a lot of lag if we, the people in Japan, play on a NA or EU server?

Plenty of english people on JP servers and plenty of JP on NA servers, I also seen no difference in latency (aka there are no latency problems), even in Ifrit. Go figure.

I hope the JA, NA/EU grouping doesn't create a big barrier. I would like to join Titan server in hopes of running into old ffxi friends.

Well to tell you the truth, in phase 2 Japanese people only spoke in Japanese even in shouts. Didn't see anyone talking in English. :/

I'll need to find a server with a good mix of both. My playtime is all over the place due to shift work, would be awesome to be able to log on at any time and have people to play with.

I am living in Japan as well and was wondering the same thing. Perhaps we should designate one?

Oceanic new players are heading to Tonberry (JP server) so that should have a busy community of Australians, Kiwis etc. All English speaking (even if they do have a funny turn of phrase).

Oceanic legacy players are heading to Masamune and Sargantas. I think Masamune is a JP server, Sargantas US.

I'm using Ramuh now, but last night I ended up having to wait in a queue with four people before me.

I'll keep those other servers in mind if I make a new character.

SE should put an Oceanic server as well even if it is in a NA or JP server.

Agreed!

It is very difficult to know where to go.

We have a choice at the moment of either a language barrier with most playing on the server, or bad ping times. Not ideal at all but i think I would prefer the language barrier so will be going Masamune and hopefully tracking down a good English speaking LS.

Nevermind! I played for a bit on Ramuh, the Japanese server, and NO ONE speaks--so boring!

When I play on Ultros from NA, there seems to be no lag, even in the heavily populated areas. So if you're an English speaker, you might want to give the NA servers and perhaps the English EU servers a try.

From discussions on Oceania forums the votes were more on the JP server side (especially for new server):
JP Legacy - Masamune
JP New - Tonberry
NA Legacy - Sargatanas
NA New - Behemoth

Seems like a waste to be living in Japan and not taking the opportunity to practice Japanese in game.

Living in Japan, every time you walk out the door you're practicing your Japanese.

OhimeKowai, I'm sure you would be fine playing on an NA or EU server. I know people who are connecting to the NA servers from Australia and they're not experiencing lag.

The Japanese do not speak most of the time. It was pretty much silent the entire time I was on, and this was around 7-9pm when people here will more than likely be playing before going to bed. Also, the last thing a lot of people want to do is write/read a non-native language which has a completely different writing system when they just want to relax and play the game after work.

Also, some people who live here aren't able to speak Japanese well, and others who can speak it might have a difficult time with the writing system and memorizing all the Kanji.

And as the other girl said, we get to use Japanese every time we step out the door. Also, I love being able to speak to my fellow westerners. Smiley: cool

You're right, I've been playing on Ultros from Japan without a problem.

For anyone interested,

I am planning to organize an FC on a New Server in the NA region that will play host to a lot of players in the Japan/Korea/Oceania/Australia time zones. The server in question will tentatively be Leviathan with an official response coming a week to anyone on the FC list before the official start of Open Beta.

This way, anyone who is in the awkward niche such as I am (living in this particular time zone but more comfortable being immersed in a English-majority server) won't have to worry about finding people to play with even when logging in during "normal hours" for us on an NA server, which is normally the time NA-based players sleep. As far as I can tell, there is absolutely NO problem with latency playing in an NA server from Asia.

If you want to join, then please message me and I'll add you to the tentative list of FC mates we are amassing. :)
