Do things slow down eventually?Follow

Really enjoying this game so far through the beta but one thing kinda bugs me. I'm used to having played XI and compared to that the entire experience seems a bit... fast paced.

I'm only level 12 or so but between what seems so far like a fairly fast leveling system, the quick fights and the constant succession of quests everything seems to be moving at a bit of a breakneck speed.

I think in particular it's the quests that are giving me the feeling. With XI you were pretty much dropped off in town and left to your own to figure things out and progress at your own pace but the quests that guide you around here definitely speed up that experience quite a bit.

I don't think people could have gotten to far ahead or even know what the current cap is but or those that have leveled further have things slowed down any as you've progressed? Like quests that take longer to complete or require more travel time, longer breaks between leveling up and more drawn out battles?

The later levels start to have punishing exp increases. Things will slow down considerably by level 15.

After level 15 it does slow down, there are no as many quests as 1-15, but then you can just spam dungeons and get EXP and gear. So it slows down in one regard, and picks up in another.

I remember in phase 2, most people would hit 13-14 and keep asking "what the hell do I do now?!". You run out of easily accessible quests and have to push through with parties, or your hunting log, etc. It picks up again once more quests open up but it definitely does slow down.

I thought 15-19 was the fastest, basically if you start doing the main mission at that point I got to 19.5 without any grinding at all.

true enough, once you know what to do, is pretty easy to level up etc etc.

I would also assume that SE may slow down the rate at which you level at release (as it may be sped up for the Beta, I've heard this being done before so people can get through the content faster to find more bugs), and add more quests for later levels...again, an assumption.

True that but keep in mind in phase 2 we only had Gridania so when we would hit 15 we would run out of quests in Gridania. In that level is when we move to different cities to pick up quests there and keep leveling.

@OP

As for if it goes fast yes it goes kinda fast but then again in most MMOs the first few levels are gained quite fast.

Concerning the thing you said about XI that when you start it drops you in town and lets you figure out everything yourself. That is what i didn't like the most. When i start a new game i want to have a few pointers cause hell i don't know anything about the game.

What I would like to know is what happens when you change class. Are there enough quests to level up from 1 again, or will you eventually have to grind it with FATE and just beating up ladybirds?

There are class quests, guildhests, leve quests to do all the way up to 50 (as well as FATE). You can also grind dungeons and I think they plan some other things as well so there will be some variety rather than just mob grinding.

The game slows down considerably if you ever decide to pick up another class. There are VERY few quests outside of your starting area around level 15 and you will spend your time grinding hunter's logs and FATES. I don't mind this though, I feel like it's a good balance between Casual/Hardcore with some semblance of sanity in the hardcore department.

It's good to know that it also slows down after the 15 mark as well.
