Will we be able to choose our starting city when the game launches?

Goodness I hope so. I'm thinking maybe the cities are limited right now because they don't have guilds set up yet in each area? Otherwise it will be very unbalanced.

Starting city is based on job; you can choose any company you want after that. It's just where they physically place your body first :)

Like Final Fantasy XI, the game specs will be extremely high for the time, but in about 5 years, an average machine can run it on max settings with little to no issues. Tanaka also expressed interest in making a benchmark program available.

No, this is how it will be. The class you pick determines the city. You'll want to be in the same city as your guild, anyway.

It doesn't really matter, once you hit 15 all classes can teleport them selves to any crystal they have touched for some gil. At 20 you can choose any Company you wish.

I'm a little upset they changed this. I had to play many hours to get to the point in the story where I could play with my friends and then the beta was pretty much over for this phase. I understand why they did it to a point as a new player might be confused why they weren't seeing class quests pop up.

However to remove even the ability to go on foot (and ferry) from Gridania to Limsa really pissed me off. Most my friends were there starting as MRD and we wanted a healer to do dungeons so I made a CNJ in Grid and it sucked.

That said, I found the game beautiful to look at, lovely to hear and fun to play.

Well i agree with you Yelta that i don't like the fact that they don't let me start in the city i like but...really playing alone till you are 15 level is not that big of a deal i mean i went 15 in a day and when you hit 15 the actual game starts with the free move everywhere and the dungeons are unlocked. So while it sucks for because i wanted to start in Limsa as well i do not believe it is that bad since level 15 is not that far away.
