I have just hit the king of all chat bugs.

I am on PS3.

I am typing in Japanese.

I have no idea how or why.

I want to get a screenshot, is the only way via a capture card?

This happened to me yesterday the only way I could fix it was by resetting my PS3.

There is no way to take a SS on PS3 as far as I know without a capture device. I took a bunch of pictures on my Cell phone.

When It happened to me, it was only when I was replying to people's /tell, I could shout in english, and /say in english, but /tell was always Japanese. I am sure Mr. Ralrra was quite surprised by my new found linguistic skills though.

(I have not had the problem since, so have no idea what caused it, and I have been unable to recreate it.)

This is total translation in say, meaning that the only way to type in anything other than say is the ALT commands, since I have no idea what / is on a Japanese keyboard. Getting my capture card.

edit: Is there any way to expand the chat window?

I think it you press L2 and R3 (or L1 and R3) you get a selection command and can move the Chat window around, unsure about expanding or not.

I hooked in a mouse. There's a handle plainly visible, buit no way I have found to target it. I know someone posted a mouse-key thing here, but I am lazy to look, easier to grab my spare portable mouse.

Edit:

Not realy a bug! The Tilde key toggles from Japanese to English. It's a little wonky even still, sometimes it does it, sometimes it does not. But there you go, you bilingual FFXIV players.... Tilde makes your text Japanese.

Yeah, put this in the beta forums, that PS3 needs a screenshot capture mechanic if you can head over to the beta forums. I wanted to put it but must wait and hour.

And as far as moving and resizing the chat window... You can move it, and re-size it, but clicking L1+R3 to bring up the mouse, then hold R2 to grab the top right corner of the chat box to move it up or down, then click the sides to move it right or left. To get out of mouse mode, simply L1+R3 again.

I've expanded my left map to come out close to my player, and down to my chat box, and my chat box goes all the way to the right close to my hot bar. I hope this helps.

PS... Also, any menu that pops up, whether showing stats, are help descriptions on spells and abilities, can be move around while they are up, by pressing the L1+R3 to bring up the mouse, and resizing them, or moving them.

They responded a while ago that they don't have one in the system yet, but are working to install it by release.

Not a problem.

Bored at work so I'm ghosting the forums watching for news and discussions. I'm a little drained from .last night, I was up quite early to play.

I added the Tilde info to my Post on the BETA forums, I havent actually had a chance to try it, but figure it made sense to add it to the thread for others to check into as well.

Also that crazy you got it to go into Say. It was only going JP when I did ALT+R responses to /tell. When I did Say/Shout I was in English lol.

I think they used it to test Japanese character entry. I can now switch at will between the two. I sort of hope they keep it at launch for the bilingual crowd.

It is cool and now that we know how to fix it a very nice addition they should keep. Not only is it cool for the bilingual folks, for @#%^s like me it has some bright spots for troll time. So confirmed then the Tilde swaps (im not home so I dunno).

I can't see my full screen, it overlaps on my tv, and every once in a while my typing turns JPN. I press
escape and other buttons to get out of it.

I have that same issue with the overlap on my tv. It really gets annoying because I have to adjust my HUD to be able to read everything.

That would be awesome... My kids are in a Japanese language immersion program, and I was looking forward to dealing with native speakers on their own terms for once.
