Is there a way to lock onto characters around you faster than D pad jumping?

If I want to heal someone fighting a random creature I have to D pad jump 2-3 mobs before I get to him, or I have run up and get my camera at the side so only he/she and I are in the screen.

Any way to just press two buttons and lock onto a player?

**also since I'm here, the PS3 version plays really well, but I was wondering if they've said anything about it still not being fully optimized yet? as in the release will be even more fluid? I thought I remembered a Letter stating that the goal was to have the PS3 version run @ 30fps and there are a few moments that it seems to dip down. Still it's better than buying a new gaming PC.

There's probably a macro command of some sort that would help. Also with the d-pad if you go left-right it targets npc's while up-down does pc's(at least party members).
I haven't tried playing with macros yet so can't help there.

Somewhere in the menu, you'll find a setting to filter the targeting. Once enabled, you can press L1 and one of the 4 main buttons to select All, Party, Friends, or Enemies. During battle, the targeting tends to change to Other, which I think keeps it to Party and Enemies.

Thank you Angus, I've been missing that filter.

It's been driving me bleeding insane as a WHM, Help one person in a drive-by healing, then get locked out of healing anyone other than myself.

FIrst, there is an option in the menu to auto-lock once you attack. Second, and I believe the controls are the same as me using xbox controller, while targeting an enemy press the left analog stick in (normally sit) and you will lock the target. Then pressing left or right on d-pad will select other targets, where you can then press a (or x for you) and it will transfer lock to that target.

It is an issue with the FATE fights especially. The mobs die while I press the d-pad and try to get a target.

I will try the settings option and see if that helps.

Setting the filters did help a bit, but still there are moments when I want to heal someone that is right next to me and as I hit the D-pad it jumps ever where around the person I want to target.

There should be a "hold L1 + D-pad to select only player targets" and if you didn't hold the L1 then it would only select attack able targets.

So far in the PS3 version the biggest issue is the targeting and the missing frames in the animation for creatures and people (which maybe a early beta version issue before being optimized).

or they need to make it where the D-pad left/right does the creatures and the D-pad up/down does players.
