Hiyas!

I just made my first trip between two cities (Ul'dah to Gridania), and all I could think (well, after dodging a bunch of hungry nasties trying to say "hello" teeth first) was, "This game is beautiful..." I am fortunate enough to have a PC able to run the game maxed out, and more than once along the journey, I just had to stop and stare at things. It was also nice to have most of the roads to myself as other adventurers had not yet pushed so far. Having seen this little bit of the world, I can't wait to be free to spend hours and hours just wandering around Eorzea.

Anyone else have those moments where the game really surprised or impressed you?

Indeed I had a few, however I am not exploring too much as I wish to save the experience for when I play my main. Lotsa interesting places that make you want to go over and have a look for sure.

That is easily one of the hardest temptations to resist (exploring). I want to keep that "new, innocent" feeling for as long as possible.

I'll save exploration for release. I do it already, but do not purposefully open up an entire map or something.

But on release, there will be achievements, so... =)

Nice. I tried exploring and got 'stuck' under a long staircase, under the water.

/stuck froze the game. Waited 10 minutes, shut down logged back in and was 'home'

This game truly is very beautiful, and I am happy that you can appreciate it in ARR compared to V1.0. SE really did a great job with visuals and audio. I haven't noticed weather yet, all though I am sure its there.

I did this all the time although I tried to resist. Little things like the geyser outside Ul'Dah just made me think 'wow they really made this game with passion'. I was exploring around Drybone and wandered into the buildings near the crystal and saw Catwho standing there near a wall - I waved, she didn't respond, I guess you can't have everything in one weekend :)

It rained in Thanalan, including Ul'Dah, the other day.

Now if they REALLY wanted to go for realism, the NPCs standing around in the rain would have subtly shifted over to the nearest overhang. Except the guards, perhaps.

Depends what the temperature is I would think. Yesterday it was 45 here with humidity (thats like 110 F give or take) when it started to rain for a bit I stood in it because it was refreshing, so maybe its just really hot and they enjoy the cool shower?

(also I am sad I missed the rain...)
