Will any of the crafts, mainly alchemy, be able to craft Armor Dyes? If not how will they be obtained? I checked the market board for them and there were many more than were sold in shops or even on the dying menu.

They were on a vendor in Ul'dah for me. A huge mess of them.

But if any crafts could make it, it'd probably be Alchemy. Don't have an alchemist high enough to check though.

XIVDB doesn't have dyes listed under any of the Craft's recipes. So I'm guessing either they won't be crafted or they haven't released the info on them yet.

They're just usable items from my understanding, but there is a quest you have to do to be able to. Not sure what.

The quest just shows you how to do it. It not something that needs to be unlocked. There should be dye venders in each of the cities. The dye stores have pictures of colored cloth hanging in the store.

As of the beta ended yesterday, you can't craft dye.

The quest to receive dye is in Vesper Bay (the ferry to Limsa) and require level 15. On a side note, the ferry required 55k gil (or 550k 1.0 rate) for some reason to ferry you to Limsa. Walking from Gridania to Ul'dah is still free.

Yeah my eyes popped out of my head when I saw that. Vesper bay was actually a very short walk from a sanctuary (horizon?) with an aetheryte crystal, so anyone who hasn't been there yet shouldn't worry about a difficult trip. It's not like trying to get to jeuno for the first time...

Not trying to derail, but I'm pretty disappointed in the dying system.

I wish we had some more options. While I hated the game, I loved the dying system in GW2..having a primary and secondary color on each item..really helped you feel just 'that much' morr like an individual.

To add, not being to dye unique items kinda sucks as well.

Dying is simple. All you need to do is purchase the dye from a merchant in one of the cities. There are several ways to get to the dye menu but ill go over the fastest way. All you need to do is bring up your character status window. Items that can be dyed will have a dot in the upper right corner. Right click and press dye. This brings up the dye menu with a list of color options. There are seven base colors to choose from. Each base color has several different shades. If you don't have the dye for the specific shade it will have a red "x" mark in the lower right corner you will not be able to select it. Select a dye shade that is in your inventory and your done.

For those that like to indulge in the world of color, I highly recommend you take a few choice pieces of armor and a few thousand gil to those vendors and try out the colors while you're "playing with someone else's money". I ended up sinking about 1500 gil in testing the different shades of blue (as that has always been my color), and I found that only the most expensive version was to my liking. So whet your 'palette' now :).

Or you can follow the link below. An interesting reddit post I found where someone took shots of all the dye colors.

The ferry price is a known bug, just throwing that out there.

Dying is fun, but yeah a lot of my dungeon drops can't be dyed. Makes me think maybe crafted items will be superior to them in some way, which would be weird.

I do not see it being difficult to add secondary colors since they do that with hair already.

You want to be able to dye AF? I dunno how I feel about seeing pink dragoons...

I actually wouldn't mind it terribly. If that's what floats their boats. I think it would be kind of cool to see some badass Human Dragoon lady in pink Dragoon gear! (Not saying it would have to be a girl, though :P) At least having the option to make your gear something that is more representative of your character would be cool, imo. I don't see the need for limitations on what can and cannot be dyed.

Dungeon gear shouldn't be the best. It's quite easy to obtain and designed for multiple classes to use. Whereas you could get a piece of gear with a few less stats that you can apply a wide range of materia to customize for a specific purpose. Once you've customized it for use, you then customize it for your preferred color, because heaven forbid you wear a light blue vest, yellow boots, and red pants. I mean come on, who does that?!?

But but I'm a wardrobe fiend!!!

Seriously though, based off crafter experience from 1.0, were you guys kicking lvl 15 gear out as sexy as some of the dungeon gear I got to wear in beta?

And more on topic. Did anyone get a chance to see if different starting cities offered different dyes or were the vendors selling the same colors? It was a disappointment to find no black or bright white.
