I remember when I first heard about FFXIV. I wanted to see something like this for bard. I imagined what a scheme for making melodies in the role of Edward would look like and how his notes tamed the Dark Elf. Where each note was a note of power and every chord was a magnification, as I devastated a monster with a flurry of arpeggios. But alas bard is twist of FFXI bard and archer.
Does this sound cool to you or do you prefer bard how it is?
I know that regardless of what we think. Bard in it's current iteration is what we have. Just want to get your thoughts.

I am really interested in making BRD my main after launch, so your thread instantly catched my eye. Honestly, at first I was surprised BRD was actually a job linked to the archer class, but being myself a devoted COR in FFXI, I found this job having almost the same purpose in the game as COR (I have never played BRD in FFXIV though, but I have checked some of the basic skills on XIVDB.com). Basically, what I liked about these type of jobs is the fact that you are constantly moving, doing offensive attacks while at the same time going back to give support to the mages. Evidently, as a COR you are never a full DD like RNG, and never a base support clase like FFXI's BRD, but personally, this is how I like to play.
As it is today, both ARC and BRD in FFXIV are weak compared to other classes. Even Yoshida has mentioned that Archer is a class with pending adjustments. And thus, being BRD the job linked to this class, it is something important to note. Fortunatelly, Yoshida recognizes this flaw and I am quite confident that this issue will be addressed in the final launch version. However, I do feel that the current BRD has few songs, and also I don´t like the fact that you cannot stack them like in the FFXI version.

I'm on the fence about how bard is currently. So far the songs are very generic, only restoring MP/TP, lowering enemy elemental resistances, and increasing movement speed. Only having to cast them once and letting them stay up allows the Bard to focus more on damage, but with the 20% reduction to your output who knows how effective they will be. They do bring a lot of utility to the table, but most of it is in the from of attacks, not songs.
I suppose it is just a relic of the terrible system they had in place previously that they couldn't really change because they didn't want to delete/reset 1.0 characters. The whole Class > Job system seems to be more detrimental to the growth of the game than helpful. Oh well, it is what it is, We'll have to deal with it.

Well I said I would like to see a musical approach to Bard.
Staccato- shortened notes
Legato- smoothly connected notes
Trill- rapid alternation between two adjacent notes
Chord- Set of three or more notes heard simultaneously
accelerando- Gradually increasing the tempo
allargando- broadening, becoming a little slower each time
altissimo- very high notes
andante- at a walking pace; i.e., at a moderate tempo
arpeggio- String of notes breaking a chord up
bridge- Transitional passage connecting two sections of a composition
canon- a theme that is repeated and imitated and built upon by other instruments with a time delay, creating a layered effect
I could proceed and list a bunch of muscial terminology. But I would like to see SE take this and have different terms play into how notes are performed to alter the effect and the circumstance.

Music theory usually is. This is why nothing good has come out of popular music in the last 15 years.

Agreed, although it's more like 12-13 year old girls. Which is why I can never understand how people justify how offensive some of it is. Always saying that it's not meant for kids to listen to even though it's designed specifically for them.
Even beyond lyrics... The beats, rhythms, and melodies are all very simplistic, geared to be easily comprehended and remembered. It's actually an interesting form of brainwashing XD. I read a Cracked article a while back that talked about how studies have shown that pop music can make you dumber by listening to it a lot.
