Confusion about racial starting statsFollow

#1 Jul 07 2013 at 10:32 AM Rating: Decent
I've heard from many 1.0 players that racial stats won't change like they did with FFXI. So if I pick a Galka-race in FF14, I can play the mage with a full mp pool and good mage stats without specialized gear. I've been doing some testing and this doesn't seem to be the case. Some sub-races are better suited for melee or magic out of the gate. So my question is can you catch up to those other sub-races or is it a lost cause? I'm not interested in hearing it's only a 1% difference, i already know that. I'd like to pick a character for ascetic reasons. Any input Zam forum?

Lost cause. Players of the same class, same level, same stat allocation, and same equipment still have the innate racial differences. It doesn't appear to be possible to overcome it. Case in point: The Dunesfolks Lalafell will be a slightly better caster, and slightly inferior melee as compared to a Plainsfolk Lalafell, with no way to over come it if all factors are equal.

This video breaks it down very nicely:

is the 1% difference really that big of a deal when it comes down to it? And to be honest up to this point I've not seen anything RSE related so catching up is probably out of the picture in the question you asked...

Max stat difference of 4 between races? Just forget about it.

To add to this post, FFXIV Guild has a guide up about racial stats: http://www.ffxivguild.com/racial-stats-and-god-stats-guide/

Good replies so far. I guess my concern is how they're dealing with the racial stats in FFXI right now. The new update is handing the BLM spot to Taru tarus. INT is so damn powerful now, an Elf vs Taru racial differences alone is like 50dmg difference per nuke. That's not a 1% difference like I see in FFXIV now, but you can see the concern since a MMO is not static. I'm looking at playing the Hume race and I was comparing the Highlander to the Midlanders. The Highlander Lancer has +2 ATK and +1 ACC for a DD over the Midlander. I guess that's not a big difference.

Yea at upper levels the difference seems so extremely minute that I dont have any problems going galka even though I fully intend to play casters later on. I'm 6'4" and far from skinny so my friends look at me funny when I play teeny characters.
