Duty Finder matches people from ALL servers, so does this mean that Legacy servers and new servers will be mixed together?
I haven't seen anything posted from the developers that are separating Duty Finder servers.

Any thoughts? Does it matter?

I've only seen the developers talk about same server and Duty Finder, that they wouldn't do that, for a number of reasons.

I think I remember this being talked about and if I find it Yoshi-P also might have said all servers are linked in Duty Finder.

In the beta, I was on Sargatanas (Legacy) and was matched up with three players from a new server. How do I know? They tried to convince me to heal for them on their server :P. They really don't want to exclude servers since it dilutes the available player base for matchmaking.

YP has explicitly stated that a primary goal of the DF is to minimize wait times by having all available players eligible. I very much doubt that the DF will be set up to segregate legacy and non-legacy players.

From what i understand only those servers in the same data center will be linked. But i could be wrong.

I don't remember any statement about a restriction between datacenters. But there's definitely a restriction of language settings.

If you don't select J as a potential language, you probably aren't getting people from Japan.

Hmm, maybe that would explain why some of the players had awesome armor. And how amazing they were in the dungeons.
Not saying that the new servers couldn't have amazing armor and couldn't be amazing in the dungeons, it
just seemed that way.

Thanks.

DF def pulls from legacy... I was put into a dungeon at one point with a paladin and a white mage then there was me and a drg... I eventually got curious and asked which server they were from and was legacy...

Yes, Duty Finder pools players from Legacy and non-Legacy servers. Yoshi said in an interview somewhere that the top priority was the speed of the Duty Finder and that they aren't planning to change the combined pooling. I'll try to find the article.

I can't seem to find the article or thread where legacy players were discussed specifically. Maybe I read something about speed being a priority, and I imagined the rest. Yoshi did have a recent post that detailed everything else duty finder related though, but someone already posted it. So I'll link to that post, and I'll quote the section on speed priority.

From: http://ffxiv.zam.com/forum.html?forum=152&mid=1374020456160169033

Quote:
â–  Cross-World Matching â–

The main purpose of the duty finder is to "be able to experience party play immediately after logging into the game." In other words, the "matching speed" is a key factor of the feature.

Nowadays, people are generally very busy and don't have as much free time to play games as much as they used to. We would like our players to continue enjoying our MMORPG for a long time. In order to make that happen, we feel it’s important to provide an environment where the players always have something to do when they log into the game. It’s difficult for certain players to enjoy an MMORPG when it takes an hour to form a party (while there are some players that do have that free time).

I feel it’s important to "maximizing the demand." Therefore, instead of just matching players within one World, we have designed it so that players are able to match with players on the same data center. As an extreme example, with this system, even if there are only 500 players logged in per World (across 15 Worlds), that’s 7,500 players you can potentially be matched up with. Of course, the class ratio of the logged in players will have a huge impact on the matching system. However, we believe we will be able to avoid situations where a player is unable to enjoy the game because there are not enough players logged in when the play.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
â–  Matching Options â–
We received an inquiry regarding the implementation of the option to only match with players within the same World, but we currently do not have any plans to implement that option.

While I understand the idea of "How about we initially get matched up with players on the same World, and if that does not work out, match up with the other Worlds," this actually leads to a huge decrease in the matching frequency.

For example, let's say there are four players on the Worlds A, B, C, D, and these four players are wanting to defeat Ifrit.
Player A (TANK) selects the "Match with players in the same World" option.
Player B (DPS) selects the "Match with players on all Worlds" option.
Player C (DPS) selects the "Match with players on all Worlds" option.
Player D (Healer) selects the "Match with players in the same World" option.

Player A will enter the queue in the state of "Waiting for a DPS/DPS/Healer in the same World."
Player D will enter the queue in the state of "Waiting for a TANK/DPS/DPS in the same World."
Player B and C will enter the queue in the state of "Waiting for a TANK/DPS/Healer in all Worlds."

The problem is apparent right away. If all players were looking for matches in all Worlds, these four would immediately be grouped together to defeat Ifrit. However, due to this option, there’s a delay in the matching process.
While player A and D can switch to all Worlds if they do not find a match in the same World, every player has their own level of patience when it comes to waiting.

Let’s say player A waits for 5 minutes and player D waits for 7 minutes. In this case, all players will have to wait for 7 minutes until they are matched. During these 7 minutes, player B and C will wait while they wonder when they are going to be matched. Everything works out as long as these players are willing to wait, but let’s say player B gets tired of waiting and decides to join another party that was looking for an additional member via /shout, changes their role to a healer, or logs out. In this case, the match becomes invalid because one of the players decided to do something else.

Therefore, if it was just one player switching from one option to another, the only impact is making the remaining players wait. However, if every player has the option, it hugely decreases the matching frequency.

On the other hand, let's say we set the waiting limit of the matches to 5 minutes (automatically cancels if no match is found for 5 minutes) and prevent players for waiting for an extended period of time. Every player registers for the duty finder at different times, so unless the players registers at around the same time, they will never be matched up.

While my example was a little extreme, if this happened with all players or if the majority of the player selected "All Worlds," it would still decrease the matching frequency by a large amount as long as there are players selecting different options.

Of course after launch, we will take a look at the overall matching speed and the split between all the roles, and it's possible that we will do things such as ease up on the role restrictions and allow for multiple role requests (tank and DPS, for example).

However, the main thing we want to guarantee is that you can play in a party when you want to and create parties comfortably, and I feel that the most important thing is to see to it that this goal is accomplished.

Yes but its not something to worry about if you ask me, i'm on hyperion and i met nothing but friendly legacy players.
If your worried about gear for lower dungeons say 2 lancers in dungeons one is a legacy 50 one is 35 and both need on gear the lower lvl roll takes priority. As well as level sync feature

Never heard this.. the onyl thing that was rumored for the DF was that if you win loot tomany times you cant roll on the next item but that was a myth. If they did this than higher lvl players will never run dungeons.. and thats counter productive.

Hmmm, during one dungeon run, the tank was made the leader and he always ran to the chest first and the loot was gone.
I only went through 3 dungeons total and in 1 of them I didn't get to even see what was in the chest.

I'll have to look up how the loot system works.

For treasure coffers in DF groups, white-quality loot is randomly distributed, anything above that is rolled for just like boss drops.

This sounds like an excellent way to break the DF; I very much doubt that it is true. Given YP's goals for DF, anything that would cause members of a DF party to be on anything but equal footing should be considered anathema.

Is there a link to how this works. I'm pretty sure my first dungeon, the loot went to the party leader, I never got to roll.

One of 2 things likely happened. First, it could have been a random chest as opposed to a boss/mini-boss chest, in which case the loot is automatically and randomly distributed. The second scenario is that you didn't notice the loot icon on the right-hand side of the screen, and the option for you to roll timed-out.

Hmm, could be either of the two. I have a 9 second delay for chat, maybe for loot too. And I didn't know how to bid for the loot. (had to plug a mounse into my ps3 and right click. I did ask for help, but with a 9 second delay, maybe it came too late. My 9 second delay + their 9 second delayed response = 18 seconds gone by.

Gosh I miss playing. These forums are the best remedy for playing. I woke up thinking about the game and strategy lol.

For bidding on the PS3, you have to hit select a bunch of times until you have Loot highlighted on the right hand side of your screen. Once you do, you can confirm it and pop up a new window with the Need, Greed, and Pass options. You should have more than enough time to roll on it even with a 9 second delay.

You might just want to stick with using your mouse, though. Having to hit select a thousand times gets to be a little annoying every now and then.

Other than that, it'll great to be finally playing again.

Well you don't roll for the mats or potions those get randomly distributed. Only gear gets rolled for and no it doesn't go just to the leader.

Oh, I'm definately using a mouse for a LOT of things in the game. Just being able to right click on the loot link makes it worth having to take my hand off of the controller. I'm also going to change the key bind and use the keypad with it for crafting macros.

Let the game begin!!

i would like to say the poster above is correct that lower lvls take priority in gear looting... However I've not read this anywhere... but during my beta experience when I lvl synced down from lvl 35 to say 20-22 and ran the dungeon either 1. No loot would drop for my class or 2. It did drop but my rolls seemed extremely lower than the other guys and I would end up lootless for about 3-4 runs of the dungeon... I hope this is not the case cause it does kinda break the loot system they have going on...

I would suggest that you want more data before making that kind of a determination.

Please keep in mind that random events are random. Everyone has unlucky streaks when it comes to rolling dice. And until you can show data for your claim, that's all this sounds like.

I had a horrible streak with loot when running the first 3 dungeons with my 1.0 character, but I still have a hard time believing that my streak was anything other than bad luck. I would need to see some more data or an outright confirmation that any such prioritization feature was intentionally added. It makes no sense, especially considering that all the 1.0 gear is severely gimped.
