Is there going to be an auction house system like in FFXI?

Yes, but a bit more functional then the FFXI one (although I miss the price history.)

I didn't get to try it too much, but there is a Market Board. When you look up an item, I believe that it shows who is selling the item and the price that they are asking for. You have to progress to a certain point in the main story line to be able to access it (I think you need to be somewhere around lvl 15-ish). I don't know what the limit is on how many items you can post for sale at once.

Edit: The requirement for access restricts selling items through the Market Board. But I believe you can buy stuff from the Market Board before that point.

You can buy at any time, but you need access to retainers to sell, and they are unlocked during story quests somewhere between 15 and 20.

There is price history. I was able to see previously sold on any item via a little button in the top right corner of on of the MB menus regardless of whether I was selling or buying.

It was hard to get a good idea of what you could do buying stuff during Phase 3 since the search function was broken during Phase 3. I don't know if they ever fixed it during Phase 3.

Yeah, the system is just like 1.0 but it is a board. There is no auction items to the highest bidder, players set the price and that is what you pay. You have access to it from LV1, to sell items; you have to unlock your retainers which at the same time they can hold 150 of your items or sell them. The price history will be display when you want to sell a item, so you have a reference on how to set a price.

Oh I didn't notice that... but I'm on PS3 so there's no mouse interaction... you have to "Tab" through all available buttons on the screen, quite annoying actually.

I like how sellers can still undercut, but they have to be smart about it. No more putting up an item for 1 gil and still having it sell for full market price.

I remember being able to find the items I put up for sale through search, so if it's broken, it probably got fixed.
