What is this thing?

http://prntscr.com/1kbvfu

I see it in every screen shot, so it must be some kind of in-game feature.

If I'm not mistaken, it's your inventory.

Yes, it is your inventory bags. Items in blue are regular items. Green are equippable items (gear) and gray means that slot is open.

If so, that's a very clever yet strange way of indicating your bag space.

It also looks like they give you tons of inventory room, as opposed to FFXI where bag slots were precious rarities. (Gob bags were the worst. lol)

What are the red dots?

Also, what are the two single-unit columns on the left-hand side? Your equipment?
#6 Aug 09 2013 at 2:37 PM Rating: Good
not sure of the red dots unless its armor that is near broken or already broken...

and the 2 columns on the left are your currently equipped gear if im not mistaken

The two columns next to the grid are your equipment slots, color indicates durability status.

Yeah, don't know why they decided to go with this rather than something more traditional (like a number of empty slots). It works fine though.

This is the sort of thing I'd expect UI addons to tweak.

I think it's neat that they made it kind of a "quick-glance" mechanic. I never really had much of a problem just hitting my "I" key to find all that out, though. You won't hear me complaining about convenience, though.

The red dots are full item stacks. I really dig this system. There should also be a sort button available in P4/EA (this was missing in previous phases).

Color also indicates spiritbond status--white=100% spiritbond.

Still not enough I had a storage kid filled up and my INV was full. I hope they put in the sort feature b.c it was horrible looking for ingredients.

Especially if they plan on making it more expensive to repair as it reduces in durability. I would like to know the exact percentage of durability it will take to bring me from green to red, if I am paying for it. Smiley: dubious I might just have to specialize in armorer so I don't have to worry about it and can repair my junk in the field.

Pretty sure what they meant about the more expensive part was that you were supposed to pay 100 gil if it was at 10% durability instead of a flat 100 gil regardless of if it was 10% or 97%.

They are adding a sort feature I saw in a dev post when Idk. You can store a lot more on your retainer (and you can have at least 3 that I know of), and your room at the inn has a safe for unique gear sets, like in XI with dressers etc.

Yeah, it's not really enough for crafters and not being to easily send items over to a mule for storage isn't helping either. 100 sounds great since your equipment's tied up in 400~ armory chest slots but the sheer number of monster and harvesting/mining/fishing items is going to end up being a big thing.

The retainer's 175 will help some and supposedly they're going to set the "safe" in your home/inn around 200 which will help more. More than likely I may just create 2-3 mules and say "This one is cooking mats, this one is botany, this one is mining, and this one is misc." or something like that.

Yeah, I started to run into inv problems in P3, but a) I didn't get around to getting my retainer, which would have helped, b) Add housing in (yes, expensive, but as others have said there isn't a huge requirement for gil usage at this stage), and the storage shoots up, and c) I was dabbling in a bit of everything (mining, armourer, GSM, alchemy, cooking, blacksmithing). Yes, there may be inventory issues, but they won't be anywhere near as bad as XI. Sequestering armour & crystals in their own inventories is a good move too.

I'm pretty sure you are limited to two retainers, at least, currently. Whether this changes in the future is anyone's guess.

how how many bag slots are we talking about, all things considered?

the retainers are 175 each?

plus 100 bag slots

plus 200 more spots in your safe?

650 total?

Plus the 25 slots for each slot (with both ring slots counting as only one) on your paper doll. So Head, Hands, Chest, Waist, Legs, Feet, Offhand, Neck, Ear, Wrist, and Ring, so up to 275 more slots there (unless I missed more slots).

ok so let's say I'm crafting helms that were incidentally also equippable. Those helms would fill up my 25 paper doll slots before they counted towards bag slots? What about number 26, does it spill over into my bag slots, rather than these paper doll bag slots you've mentioned?

The inventory chart thing is just one of the little touches that impressed me about ARR.

At the moment, they would go into your inventory first. You can move them into the armory chest manually, and thus have full control over what tradeskill items go in and out of that. No idea if it will work the same way in Phase 4.

that's interesting. I like that better. Thanks.

edit: actually that brings up another question. Will items placed in the armory chest become bound?

You have to equip it and gain XP to bind it, IIRC. (There is a sound and visual effect that happens when you spiritbind and when you complete spiritbinding equipment.)

ah ok. So it sounds like I could use the armory as a temporary storage space for armor and weps, for when my inventory is a tad bit too full.

You absolutely can do this. Then when you're ready to peddle them you pop them back into your inventory, or hand them to your retainer. I made full use of this in P3. I would craft the stuff in my crafting log and if I planned on using it later to level up a different class or something, I would pop it into my armory chest so that I didn't accidentally sell it to an NPC.
