Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn payment and subscription question?
Hi, me and my husband wants to play this game. Since my work has a longer hours I cannot play that much so I wanted to just play casually.

""""Will I be able to play more than one character at the same time?

Yes, but it depends on what platform you would like to play on.
If you wish to play multiple characters at the same time, please refer to the explanations below and ensure you have a copy of the game and registration code for each character you wish to play simultaneously.

â–  Windows only: To play three characters simultaneously
- A Square Enix account
- A copy of the Windows version
- Three registration codes obtained from the product or the "FINAL FANTASY XIV Service Center"
*You can register up to eight registration codes per Square Enix account.
*The "FINAL FANTASY XIV Service Center" website will be available after the game is launched. Please note that the website can only be accessed by those who purchased FINAL FANTASY XIV and registered a service account.""""""

so I stumble upon this article about multiple characters. I'm a bit confused. Me and my husband are both want to play. Is it possible that we purchase the 1 standard copy of the game and play 2 characters at the same time? and both have subscription for a month or so?

No. Each account can have multiple characters, but you can only use one character at a time.

For two people to play simultaneously, you will need two separate accounts.

Not according to the FAQs on their website, which mention only needing 1 account but multiple registration codes. Which is where the confusion sets in.

Edit:
Here is the FAQ links:

The "account" in reference is the Square Enix account, I think. Which adds extra confusion because there is only one way to log in, and that's with the Square Enix account. username and password o_o

Exactly...
If you were to believe what that FAQ says, I could buy two copies of the game, register both codes on my one SE Account, and then play two characters at the same time. (They actually give the example of three, but that's not the point). Seems... not right to me. But it's written there.

Either way, if you want to play two characters at once, you have to purchase and register two copies of the game.

Maybe they did it this way so someone could promote a second character on their main account to its own main character, which is something that absolutely cannot be done in FFXI.

It's right. It would add a second service account to your Square Enix account. When you log into the game, it asks you which service account you want to use. You'd still need to buy the game twice and pay two monthly fees though. The only advantage over having two entirely different accounts is that you only have to remember one password, I guess.

A Square Enix account seems to work like a Battle.net account if you have ever played a Blizzard game. You can have multiple World of Warcraft accounts attached to a single Battle.net account. It seems that Square Enix uses the same method. So, technically you would have two accounts (meaning you pay your subscription for both) and when logging in you get to select which account you will be using.

I have 3 ffxiv beta subs on my sqaure enix account on my ps3. After you login to the game and it gets to the start menu with b start open movie and options when you select the start as to jump into game if you have more then 1 sub a list will pop up and you select with ffxiv sub you wish to the play on.
