I got into beta no problems, no D/c's no lag or log in issues. I love how the game plays even thou I was more about checking out the area then leveling. I did make it to lvl 14 with one class, and did get to see a little bit of the story, I have a few issues.

1) I don't know if its because it was beta or not but, I was very sad with the lack of voice acting in the CS. I don't need every npc chatting with me. But if its part of the main story I think it needs to be voiced.

2) the map I found myself using the big square one more then the compass map its not to much of a issue as long as i can get rid of the compass map and use the big square one instead (yes silly I know )

3) and the last one for me I don't know how the boats and airships will work I do hope we can sail on them like FFXI but just not as long

1) Nearly every important CS had voice acting Smiley: dubious

3) It's instant travel. So not like XI. Good riddance I say.

To be honest the only bit I'm hoping to be voiced is the Lightning content.

1) The major parts of the story have voice acting, which IMO and a lot of other's, leave something to be desired... Most people recommend putting it on JP voice acting and reading captioning Smiley: lol

2) Am I the only one that understood and loved the new mapping system?... The UI can be changed around (At least on PC, not sure on PS3)

3) Airship shows a short 30secondish cut scene that can be skipped, not sure about boat traffic.

Didn't Yoshi (in that last long 3 hour session) hint at possibly implementing the ability to fish off of airships and the ferry in the future?

Watch out for the sky octopus.

Really? I think I missed a few then. I think maybe 2 or 3 of the main story quest in Gridania had voice acting in it.

I somewhat disagree. A few had voice acting, and even those, such as the level 15 quest where you go to the 3 cities, you'd get voice acting for the first small portion and then all of a sudden the screen would fade out, fade back in, and no more voice acting. I thought that was really odd and a pretty big disconnect. Also, I don't think ANY of the class quests had voice acting, which I think they should have since some of those cut scenes were really cool and could have benefited from it.

I wish there was more, but at the same time, I was pretty apathetic to the voice actors themselves, so it doesn't really bother me that there isn't more since I don't think it was wonderful. I agree that the JP voice acting was better than the NA, at least the lips synced up to the voice mostly.

Could u explain this a little with what you mean by changing the UI on the map/compass? I don't remember seeing an option on changing anything on the compass or map (that I remember in that short of time or if that's what your even talking about)

Only problem I like fixed is there a way to turn on something that makes the mouse hover over a specific area on the map and it would show you what it is? For example The part I have the most trouble with is trying to find out
Which teleporter name is which. Id like to be able to hover my mouse on the map over the teleport crystal and it tells me which that one is instead of trying to make an educated guess. O it looks near the thaum guild so ill take a chance an see if that's the one I need.

Same goes for the choco stables. I didn't see any easy way to tell which is which name. Id have to look at the map and trying and find the little white letter names of the areas close to it and hope that's it.

Yeah, that pissed off my four year old daughter who was so happy that she could finally understand them instead of me having to translate (because she can't read yet).

Ok that part does need work, but after a few minutes I had all the crystal locations memorized (But I'm OCD about that kind of stuff) And I enjoyed exploring too much so I never used a chocobo porter....

Nope.

Even the important cut scenes were only partially voiced. Very jarring. And disappointing.

I was under the impression that at least the main story line would be voiced. Not even close.

The game is good, don't get me wrong. But that was definitely a let down.

I like voice acting when done well, but if everything was Vo'd like say ToR, we'd all have our spacebars worn out in a weeks time... To me it seemed like the perfect balance of VO and reading.

I agree with the let down of the VA, it wasn't good at all. I ended up skipping most of the scenes as a result.

I hadn't heard about fishing off of ferry's or airships, that would be difficult to implement since they already said they wouldn't be changing how they work for now. That being said, I don't know how sky fishing will work, so maybe there will be different airships used for that? Kinda like the manaskipper in XI, where it just does a loop and doesn't take you anywhere important.

To add to my post none of this will keep me from play this game, but when it does come out I plan on rerolling because I skipped pass alot of the text. Thats because I thought if it was important it was voiced.

lol, no.

I agree with him and way more of the story should have been voiced. It definitely left a lot of people saying "uh... that's it?"

Like I've complained about before, even the opening cutscene has no voice acting. That's got to be some kind of JRPG sin.

You should definitely try the Japanese. We were talking about it in an earlier thread and I ended up trying it, and I really like the Japanese voice actors.

It seems like Square pretty much hired amateurs for the English voice acting but the JP voice cast has a lot of anime/game talents.

i don't really have anything to say about the first or third point, but as for the compass/mini map i agree with you in that i don't really like the compass.

what i did was went into the HUD layout, removed the compass, put the system time to the left of my gil amount, and put the minimap in the top right corner of the screen filling the area where the compass was. I keep it zoomed out to about the second to last distance so i can see most of the map easily. It doesn't take up a lot of the screen so it's perfect for me. I found the compass just didn't show enough distance around your character.

Wasn't there a CoP mission out on Purgonorgo Island or something? I remember having to go out there for something. Also, the boatride itself had that really intriguing uragnite NM that had a hardcore regen when in it's shell that you had to break it out of. I remember that fight being quite challenging on my thief with it's somewhat lacking solo DPS (no SATA).

Yeah there was, but I mean you weren't hanging out in P<tab> Island or traveling from place to place. My point is it wasn't a means to get from city to city.

This actually makes me really sad... I have plenty of fond memories of fishing off the boat and then getting hit with Pirates or spawns. Lots of fellowship on those boats, too.

I changed the voice language settings to Japanese. Its great!! There are subtitles, so you can follow along. I found it enjoyable. The English voices really turned me off.

Oh btw, once you get you Inn access you can check the Journal that's on a desk, and choose which cutsceens to see again. Very cool!

The voice acting does end after the first several sentences into a cutscene that isn't a 'dream scene' but I don't mind that too much. Often times my inner voices are disappointed with casting anyway. Not always but often.

The instanced traveling... going to miss those looooong arguments I got to have with my ls leader. I honestly think I would just argue with him to help pass the time. Other than the unique conversation downtime, I'm right back in EQ mode. Besides, the best personalities always find you while your fishing somewhere.

Maybe they'll do it like the airships in FFXII. You can choose to either travel instantly or ride on the airship. When you're on the airship, you can decide when to get off without having a time limit.

That's strange, because I didn't have any voice acting at all, even the important quest completions. Maybe I had something turned off, I don't know, but I got to hear the voice acting when my husband completed his THM quest, and It sounded terrible. Made me glad I didn't have it on mine lol.

I'm going to give that a try when the game is back up again. I found myself referring to the map and ignoring the compass most of the beta.
