Resuming play from 1.0Follow

#1 Aug 22 2013 at 8:37 PM Rating: Decent
OK I stopped 1.0 in 2011 as a 50 GLD with a few melee jobs in the 20s and 30s and a few craft jobs in the 20s and 30s. During the Beta I logged on as my old main and had a quick look at my inventory (lots of 'vintage' gear that I still think is awesome), a ton of gil (100,000+) and stacks and stacks of leftover crafted ***** on my retainers. Then I noticed no-one else was running around in high-level gear so I went back and read the Beta agreement, which said I agreed to run a new char and report errors. So that's what I did in Beta 3 and 4, made a mithra (I know) and got to 15 Archer before ... well, you know).

My question now is - what do I do when I log in as my main? Do I have to do all the low-level class and storyline quests so I have basic functions, or for any other reason?

As an aside, I read somewhere that a guy ran to Mor Dhona in the Beta 4 and bought Darklight tank armor from an NPC - which appears to be sold at insanely low price see http://ffxiv.gamerescape.com/wiki/Auriana - what am I missing here? Is this gear that easy to get?

No, 835/1350 Allagan Philosopher Stone is not easy to get. I get 500 Stones for exchanging my most prize item which was a 3 melded STR IV,III,III gloves from 1.0. You could blow up a hundred times before you can make one.

Um, that's not gil, that's items to exchange for the gear. I'm assuming they are a high level reward for dungeons, or FATEs, or something. I'm guessing if someone was able to buy them it was because they had gear from 1.23 that was outdated, and got converted into that currency from the salvage NPC. Just a guess though. Regardless, I don't think it's cheap or easy to get.

OK, so add "sell old gear to salvage NPC" to list of things to do (I'm still saving a set of vintage gear for the July 4th parades)

What else do I need to do to have class privileges and abilities and airship and all that - everything from the beginning but as a lvl 50??

he's saying you get currency that can be used to buy gear by trading in valuable gear leftover from 1.23

As for coming back and what to do on your main, you still run through the main storyline (on another class you want to level) which gives you access to dungeons/duty finder, airships, grand companies (which you are going to re-join) and you'll want to do class quests for your main to pick up some abilities.

So ignore past achievements, pick a new class (Mauruder, if I haven't already), and level that to like 15 when I can switch back to Glad and get PLD?

If you had PLD in 1.0 you'll still have it unlocked but there might be quests to do for some abilities. I'm not sure about that. But yeah, in P4 i just leveled my 10GLD up to 20 while going through the story, I barely touched my mains. One of the first things i'll do at early access is probably go do class quests for my mains and pickup the abilities i'm missing.

You can only get Allagan Philosopher Stone (no# 1, dang long name can't remember but there are two types) from exchanging Melded gear with cracked Materia. Nothing else will do, your Vintage is still Vintage, your Weathered/Dated gears are untradeable and has no use. Melded gear with 1 or 2 Materia is pretty cheap by Allagan Stone exchanging (like 10-50). It's also dependent on the level of the Materia used for melding, higher more exchange value. It's a pain in the butt to get Triple/Quad Meld lvl III/IV gears previously, because the rate was low and you fail = blowing up both gears and Materia. Gone. Pricey Materia could also worth millions gils PER Materia and imaging blowing up 50 of those to get a Triple/Quad meld.

You can also exchange Kupo Nut/Ifrit Token/Garuda Token each for 15 Allagan Stone. These were used to exchange for Primal Gears and has a chance (Garuda is 100%) to drop every time you kill Primal in HARD mode in 1.0.

You can also exchange Primal Charm which was used for Relic quest, each for 100 Stone.

They are not easy to get. Assuming in ARR they will be acquired from doing respective dungeons (Darkhold, Aurum Vale, Cutter Cry etc.) which used to drop Darklight (Darkhold not included) and was relatively high level (45-50) requiring FULL party of 8.

I suppose I'll go to the GLD guild as a 50, and the Armoers' Guild as a 31, etc. and see what they tell me to do. I couldn't get an inn room at the close of Beta 4 so I went to sleep on the floor of the Adventurers' Guild. One way or another I'll have to run the storyline, might as well do it as a new class since my main is capped. But it will be interesting to see what I have to do to become PLD - which wasn't available (I think) when I stopped 1.0. I did notice in the Beta that my GLD had all or most of the abilities it had in 1.0, my hotbar looked very familiar

Khornette - thanks for the explanation, I never delved into endgame after 50, I lost interest. Hopefully not this time!
