I think there is a good chance I'll pick up the ps4 version.
Compared to what their luminous engine can do, Final Fantasy 14 looks like trash. People talk a lot about not being able to tell the difference between ps3 & ps4 due to the "law of diminishing returns." But I tell you what, I can tell just from watching youtube clips. Direct x11 is awesome. And it's not just graphics in the traditional oooh that's pretty sense, it's about draw distances and number of characters popping on the screen at once.
One big difference is 720 vs 1080. Playing at a higher resolution is a huge improvement.
All that said, it's direct x 11 support that will make this game sparkle. And to fully implement that they will have to do a lot of extra work. It will mean new bmaps and new all sorts of stuff I don't fully understand to really utilize dx11. That's stuff they aren't currently working on. What they are working on is getting the ps4 port ready for an early 2014 launch. That means porting it from pc to ps4. So it will look as close to the pc as possible.
The Dx 11 support will come months/years after that. And it will come to ps4 and PC. It's my prediction/expectation that implementation of dx11 is where you'll see a big difference. That and playing at 720 feels like playing gimped. I like tiny characters and tiny hotkeys. When DX11 support comes out, ps3 players will be seeing a way different game.
Analog control for moving around is smoother than wasd+mouse but you don't have access to the number of keys you really need to have access to in battle.
